北野通りは北野町のメインストリートです。北野町は、異国情緒あふれるエリアとして知られています。特に有名なのは、明治時代に建てられた異人館が立ち並ぶ「北野異人館街」です。ここでは、外国人居留地としての歴史を感じることができます。
北野町の歴史は、1180年に平清盛が京都の北野天満宮をこの地に勧請したことに始まります。明治時代の開港後、多くの外国人がこの地に住み始め、異人館が建てられました。
現在では、異人館の保存・活用が進み、観光地としても人気があります。おしゃれなカフェやレストラン、ブティックが立ち並び、異国料理を楽しむこともできます。
また、毎年10月には「神戸ジャズストリート」が開催され、街中にジャズの音色が響き渡ります。
北野町は、神戸の中心地・三宮や元町から徒歩10～15分とアクセスも良く、散策にぴったりのエリアです。
Kitanocho is known as an area with an exotic atmosphere. Particularly famous is the Kitano Ijinkan-gai, a row of ijinkans built in the Meiji era. Here, visitors can feel the history of the area as a foreign settlement.
The history of Kitano-machi dates back to 1180, when Taira no Kiyomori invited the Kitano Tenmangu Shrine in Kyoto to this area. After the opening of ports in the Meiji era (1868-1912), many foreigners began to live here and ijinkan (foreign residences) were built.
Today, the Ijinkan are being preserved and utilised, and are popular as tourist attractions. Fashionable cafés, restaurants and boutiques line the streets, where visitors can enjoy exotic cuisine.
Every year in October, the Kobe Jazz Street is held, with the sounds of jazz echoing through the streets.
Kitano-cho is a great area for a stroll, and is only a 10-15 minute walk from Sannomiya and Motomachi in the centre of Kobe.
