    I was seriously just thinking I wanted to see a tutorial on scrapping ceiling fans last week, and found you. Thanks for sharing thins! I'm sick over how many I've thrown out over the years in construction. I didn't have the know how, or forge then, to be saving copper or scrapping. I feel wasteful. I look forward to giving this a try. Great video

    I worked in a Vacuum Cleaner Repair shop for more than 6 years. Some of the screws were hard to get to just like you were experiencing @1:54. What we did to get around this problem was cut an old long bladed Phillips Screw Driver off using a grinder and cut-off wheel. Cut it off close to the handle, then use it in the drill. This eliminated the problem of the Drill Chuck getting in the way when using those short Phillips Bits... Also....Thanks for that Copper Sulfate tip. I never knew this.

    Where I used to live, the scrap yard paid me more for zinc diecast than they did for cast aluminum. But where I am now the yard here mixes it all together and calls it all aluminum. And yes sheet is down to $100 per ton. And 8 weeks ago it was $220 per ton.

    • @Okiescrapper
      @Okiescrapper  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      a few years ago I took a big truck load of aluminum to Metal Check and they had me pull by 2 aluminum dumpsters and sorted the aluminum into them and the fan blade brackets from ceilings fans they called die cast or something like that. not sure if they still sort that way, hope shred goes back up soon I am getting the trailer loaded

  • @hobbitreet
    @hobbitreet 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    If it is die cast, what metal is it? Tin? Zinc?

    • @Okiescrapper
      @Okiescrapper  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Most die castings are made from non-ferrous metals, specifically zinc, copper, aluminium, magnesium, lead, pewter, and tin-based alloys.

    This upload has been showing up on recommended for Christ knows how long. If i had .5c for every time that it has then I'd have $ 7.25 sort of thing. I was doing some Okie videos, so now its done. I'm doing micro-scrapping of my own. Cutting up salmon tins and inserting the pieces into container deposit steel cans. Getting nothing extra for weight, but putting paid to other peoples' mess. When the deposit container is full of steel bits [ only steel, no impurities ] to the point that it is so jammed up that nothing can fall out, then its just the .10c for the filled-up container.

    If we assume about 4 oz of copper in each fan and a melt price of copper at $3.60 per pound, then the value of one copper fan is (1/4) * $3.60 = $0.90.
    To earn $40 per hour, you'll need a continuous supply of scrap fans at 45 per hour, 360 per day, 1,800 per week, and 93,600 fans per year.
    Calculation:
    Number of fans * Value of copper per fan = Earnings per hour
    Number of fans * $0.90 = $40
    Number of fans = $40 / $0.90 = 44.44 (repeating)

      ok how much can a guy make watching football? and there are many other types of scrap that a scrapper would do, I may only get a dozen fans a year, not much but they do add up. and not every scrapper scraps for a living, many hobby scrappers out there

    I might have to consider breaking down my motors. My yard is paying shred price for all motors. Most of them are aluminum and there local buyer now won't take them.

      it's a lot of work trying to get all the different size bolts off a motor, and lots of time involved.

    Die cast parts can be both Aluminium and Zink based alloys, so I asume that you mean cast Zink alloys, when you say "diecast".

      have you not heard of hobby scrappers, they scrap as a hobby. how much do you make doing your hobby Bill? I have never made a dime fishing or hunting but I have spent a lot on supply's. most guys don't make any money playing golf, or playing baseball. if you scrap for a living then by all means just through it in the shred pile and move on for you guys time is money. but some guys like to relax out in their shop and tinker with something to keep their hands and mind busy. Thanks for stopping by
