Crazy to think this is over. I remember the first time I saw Jimmie Johnson, it was after he had that scary wreck in that 92 Altel at Watkins Glen in the Busch series. Then seeing this young rookie grow into one of the greatest drivers of all-time in NASCAR. I remembered hating him for stealing Jeff Gordon's thunder, and a couple of titles from him, but at the end of the day, Jimmie was one hell of a driver. Probably the greatest driver in his series as far as having a feel for what his car is doing. He was the Aryton Senna of NASCAR in that regards. That being said, he carried himself as a consummate professional, and we are lucky to have seen Jimmie do his thing in NASCAR. Crazy how it came full circle from savvy young rookie with a hit or miss style to one of the most dominant athletes of the 21st century, rivaling the likes of tiger woods, Peyton Manning, and Jeff Gordon himself. So much so people couldn’t stand him and figured the only way someone could be this good was to cheat. Just like Jeff. What a ride he has had, and he’s got one more shot to go back home to victory lane tomorrow. 🙏
