- D Suresh lives in Kilpauk in Chennai in his green and sustainable home. An IIT and IIM graduate, 71 year old Suresh has managed to set up a rooftop solar plant, biogas plant, rainwater harvesting, rooftop kitchen garden and a bamboo forest in front of his house. Solar Suresh as people call him today is the face of sustainable living in the new Urban India. Watch to know more!

Suresh Sir, you are awesome, we are from Manapakkam(Chennai), we have installed a groundwater recharge system with filter media, we collect and reuse Aircon / RO discharge water in IBC tote and use it in our drip system for our small Garden, we are planning for a rooftop (900 sqft )solar panel, requesting you to guide us with the right vendor, Thank you very much

There are few problems with this. You can't lock your house for 1 week. If you do, then all your plants dies. You don't have any bio-gas and you have to restart the entire enterprise again. Above all you need to have a person dedicated to manage all these and lastly you require a big house and lot more compound area. He is retired and does it. Good for him. I vouch for solar cells though! Thanks!!!

I love what you have created and have been an advocate for green living like you are. Just one thing. I don't agree with your suggestion that we not depend on the government. Governments are needed to lead this change for these reasons:
1) If they make a policy about this, then people are more likely to follow it. Policies also help spread awareness. For example, vaccinations. If we leave this to individuals, they may or may not get it done.
2) They can subsidise the material. That way, green living can reach even poor sections, which otherwise will not be able to invest in this.
3) Citizens can get free electricity by feeding the excess back to the grid for industry to use. That way, industrial production also becomes clean while citizens earn from producing electricity and other resources.
Of course, the Govt. may choose not to do any of this because it will lose revenue and because if energy production goes to individual homes, the government will not be able to hide a lot of corruption that gets commited when the process is out of the hands of citizens. Also, there is the problem that when subsidising the material, the government may give us cheap material so that we are forced to reinvest in it.
But I still feel the Central and State govts. should make it their project.
At the end the what he said is "don't complain about Government Apathy in providing solutions rather assist government in finding solutions" must be taken as an eye opener by each one of us and we must understand this and move together for it's implementation.

congratulations for the Green environment. I have a question. I have installed a Wisi rainwater harvesting machine on my terrace. After some time, I started to plant to vegetables there too. I fear that the organic fertilizers like biogas slurry and other manures would tamper my clean well water. What is your suggestion?

Sir, is it true that 2-3kg of vegetable wastes sufficient to produce bio gas? I think carbohydrates are necessary to produce bio gas. Kindly answer me as I want to convert my sweet home like yours.🙏
