To be absolutely clear…the fuzz that Mayer built for Jimmy Page and Big Jim Sullivan was NOT used by Page in The Yardbirds or in Led Zeppelin. Mayer told me this himself in the early 2000s. The fuzz that Mayer built for Page was used ONLY on Page’s session work PRIOR to his time in The Yardbirds and Led Zeppelin. Mayer told me that he NEVER modified any stock pedals for Page. Again, just for clarity’s sake, Page’s famous fuzz sounds during his time in The Yardbirds and the first Led Zeppelin album came straight from a stock Solasound Professional MkII Tonebender purchased from Macari’s in 1966 (Macari’s has the receipts). Furthermore, Page never used an Octavia, again according to Mayer who told me this directly.

Wonderful stuff. I have several Octavia effects. But it was what Roger Mayer did for Jimi’s Fuzzfaces that really gave Jimi a leg up, as it were.
