They're kicking ass on everything. Picked up a blemished dagger frame and a slide on sale for a whopping 240 bucks. So far shot near 1000 rounds of all kinds of handloads from super weak to screaming hot in it. It has not failed in any way whatsoever, not even feed/extract failures on weak loads that made way more expensive guns have problems in the past. So that means they fix the problems they find in products, apply the fixes to items going forward to improve the line, and do so at a price anyone can afford. At this point, it's no surprise to me any product they're behind ends up a winner.
I have 6 rifles from them and a dagger with 1500~ rounds and not a blip of trouble from any of them. Have also ran close to 600 rounds of AAC 124gr 9mm FMJ without a hiccup. Great stuff!
I found the fragmentation coupled with penetration to be a plus. Gives the surgeon more to do. I’ve purchased most of my ammo based on your testing and review. In my opinion, the best ammo review channel on the Tubes.
_Almost_ perfectly consistent and we can appreciate that. It's mind blowing when I see other people send rounds down range and the chronograph shows deviations of several hundreds of feet. This is the first time I've heard/seen Blade Black Tip and your testing makes me want to buy some. On another note, it ought to be **required** to label all boxes of ammunition with velocity and what barrel lengths are necessary to achieve it. Gee, when would we ever want to know the numbers? Imagine if your car didn't have a speedometer. Just guess how fast you're going.
Fragmentation is well documented as the main wounding mechanism for 5.56, the fact that this stuff both fragmented and retained some weight you get the best of both worlds, especially with a non bonded projectile, and for the price it’s a buy.
@@ToolsandTargetsWould be interesting to see how a 60 grain Vmax performs next to the 62 grain black tip. I have heard Hornady makes the 62 grain black tip for them, but not sure if it’s just a rumor.

Hell yeah Brian! I've been checking your channel twice a day for these Black Tip results! I even bought 2 extra boxes of the 75gr to ship to you, because I only knew that you had the 62gr. I was expecting these to perform more like a varmint round, & not even have any lead-mass that penetrated that 13" & 14". Overall, these are designed to be for self protection, & if you hit any muscle in a target with this, that muscle is gonna be shredded to pieces. I already replaced all my 62g M855 reserves with AAC's Sabre Blade Black Tip 75gr, so I'm happy with these results for sure. I took it to the range this past Monday, with my 16" Springfield Hellion with a 1 in 7 twist, & my very first 5 shots at 100yds, were all touching! ...I was so blown away, that I had to shoot 2 intentional "fliers" to make sure I was actually hitting the paper! I've never shot that well with M855, ever, not even remotely close.
Thank you again. Bought a few boxes of 62 grain. I have them in 2 new mags and was trying to decide if I wanted them for home or coyotes. As far as accuracy goes, my test with 5.56 ammo proved that AAC is great ammo. For my 100yard accuracy test, it was a tie between the AAC Black tip 75 and the BTHP 75. This video sure helps with deciding which round will be better for defence purposes. Thanks for what you do!

This one’s a two thumbs up for me. I like the fragmentation and limited penetration for defense ammo in a rifle. Less chance of it continuing on to do damage past the intended target. Barrier penetration would be the only downside I could see.
Well, I live in an apartment, so I'm just fine with it dumping as much energy as possible on the first thing it touches. Obviously it's a bullet and it'll go through walls and stuff, but avoiding over penetration and minimizing barrier penetration is important to me.

Thank yo for the excellent gell test. The velocity deviation with 75 grain certainly explains why i easily get 2 inch groups at 200 meters. Love it tools. I only pop in every once in a while now but brother it's awesome to see you not only still going but growing! I still remember the days of the live chats and ammo hunts in 2020.
This is great analysis. I agree with you in that less fragmentation and greater weight retention would be preferred however with roughly half the weight retained it would be acceptable for me for self defense and for thin skinned game. I think the damage done and energy transferred coupled with 13" to 14" of penetration would work well. Additionally, understanding that 5.56/.223 is highly susceptible to fragmentation of any projectile in the 100 yard range and closer, if you were to push that distance to 150 to 200 yards that fragmentation would subside, with much better weight retention and I bet the penetration might even be greater even with the velocity loss. If so this would be a winning round. I like it!
Thank you for the excellent content! Just placed an order for 300 of the 75 gr to see how they do in my DD 14.5”! Fantastic shooting, put those rounds perfectly in that gel! Well done!
Another good test! You have assembled a fantastic library of tests for most calibers that anyone can look into before purchasing ammo. Very helpful for new and seasoned shooters! Thanks again
I think it performs exceptionally well for self-defense purposes..... immediately expands and fragments.... both meet FBI penetration criteria and weight retention of roughly 50ish %... that's pretty darn good. It does what all projectiles of that design do. No complaints, especially for the price. Personally having spent alot of my career relying on M855 until 2004ish... and then using MK318 after... the difference in stopping power was noticeable.... However in joint operations with the Army, seeing how well MK262 performed, espc at the longer engagement distances we encountered in AFG, was eye-opening. Everything has its purpose.....
This is the test I've been waiting for. I don't want frag in a hunting load, but this is exactly what I want from a defensive load. Frag early but still punch in over 12". Literal perfection.
The more I see of 5.56 the more I like 308. Yet the more I shoot 44 Mag the more I appreciate 357. Some may view this as irrational. Thank you for sharing the great testing!
You sir... are a fan of high PSI cartridges. I sold my S&W 629 deluxe 6 inch revolver and now own a SIG x10 in 10mm... I'll never go back to .44mag. 15+1 of 10mm out of a 5 inch barrel over 6/7 rounds of .44mag any day... not to mention red/green dots are cheating, and the SIG is optic ready. When I need that high-pressure cartridge fix... I take my .300winmag out with no compensator/muzzlebrake.
Thanks for running these tests. They're extremely useful. These rounds look really good. The penetration was good, the tracks were impressive, and with those being good, the fragmentation doesn't bother me. As an aside, the small spread in velocity between the rounds means that they have some good manufacturing processes.
Such a good video , and on PSA ammo , that now I am very likely to purchase . Also, I want to compliment you on your recording of the gel test, as it was presented exceptionally well. 👍
Very good test protocol and excellent video! Thank you very much! I’ve been very interested in AAC’s Sabre blades and you provided the answers I was looking for. Both look like excellent personal defense rounds. I’ve found AAC’s 75gr HPBT to be very accurate, consistent and reliable. Keep up the great work! I’m now subscribed!
What I like about these... is that they perform are loaded with lower SD (for factory non-match rounds) and they are CHEAP.... I bought 20 boxes of the 75gr at 10.99 a box!! forget about it. That's literally nothing compared to the other self defense 5.56 ammo (between 18-35 a box). Great job PSA and keep them coming! 308 saber rounds maybe?
Check your packing receipt. The ones I ordered said they are 75 GR V-max with Black Tip. That explains the performance you saw which looks pretty good for self defense ammo.
Incredible velocity from both rounds out of a 16 inch barrel. Most rounds only come that close out of a 20 inch. I like the heavier bullets for home defense. Phenomenal performance at a great price. Thanks for the review.
Just came across this review as I was looking to add the 75 grain to my home defense retinue. Thank you for this extensive review and I will certainly be adding these rounds. Much better performance than the old 55 grain fmj's I was issued back when dinosaurs roamed.
High velocity rifle round wounding benefits from fragmentation as long as penetration is adequate. This is superb performance for non barrier 2 legged vermin. Also, fragmentation likely means these will still expand well at lower velocity. The literature says “maximum expansion and weight retention”. That can be read 2 ways…. In practice it appears a certain portion of the bullet is designed to fragment, and a certain portion is designed to remain intact. Since both bullets were nearly identical in retained weight and expansion…Id say these rounds exhibit controlled properties.
Not a bad performance but I definitely disagree with how you're "spinning" that performance description. I guess comparing it to nothing, it had great retention and expansion. Put up against a round that truly does retain its weight and expand uniformly, it's not even close.
@@ToolsandTargets ive seen some say this is Hornady Vmax projectiles. However this performance looks more like the SST projectile. AAC should just change the description to controlled fragmentation and expansion. Quite frankly this wound profile is about as optimal as it gets for non barrier performance against 2 legged vermin. Id like to see these out of the AR pistol.
@@7N6ballistics Agreed. The round did a great job but just not what I expect when I read their description. I'm gonna throw a 10.5" in the mix when I do the 55 grain.😎👍
It's not so much that a certain part is designed to fragment and a certain part isn't, it's just that bullets that fragment via expansion tend to expand, lose fragments, expand more, lose more fragments, expand more again, etc. That's happening as they continue to penetrate. It's how you get a decent mushroom despite the fact that half the weight is gone. Win win as far as I'm concerned.
Great video and demonstration, the weight loss in the projectiles might not be good for hunting but for home defense it might be more optimal at minimizing over penetration but remains to be seen
Cool video man, you really have hit the mark, no pun intended with these videos man....super interesting, and it's nice to hear fellow country boy explain everything.
Haven’t tried any AAC ammo yet, definitely need to check them out. Very nice performance from both rounds, no problem with secondary frag tracks if there’s good penetration. Nice jelly test Tools, thanks for sharing!
Given the fact I only live a few miles from PSA and love supporting local businesses, I may be a little biased, but I love what they are producing and am a huge supporter of PSA/AAC. This ammo would definitely get the job done. 👏 👏 👏
Looks like one of the best wound channels I’ve ever seen. If you in a self defense situation your going to dump that energy in the target and leaving a big wound. What is it your looking for? They already make green tip penetrators if that’s what you want the bullet will just poke right through.
First, I love your testings. You cover many aspects and you have a great personality to present them with. With that being said, I personally like the weight loss during penetration. If those fragments are breaking away and heading in different directions, I feel the chances of popping open more arteries and veins are greater. An intruder can't keep coming at you if he doesn't have blood supplying oxygen to the muscles. That's just my 2 cents. Either way, this is probably the 5th video of yours I've watched and have decided to become a subscriber. Thanks for the great content!
Your channel is one of my favorites. And including yours, I have 2 favorites. The other is Hickok45. Keep 'em coming please. I enjoy all of your content, especially the tests. Thank you for the infotainment.
Very pleased with the results. I had some doubts, but I'm glad I bought some 62gr now! Thank you for your hard work to test all these different rounds that you do!
Thank you very much for making this video. I just got a box in today, and the packing slip said they are Vmaxes. That seems consistent with the test results.
That weight retention is much better than you would get from a SMK or other OTM. If you want total weight retention you gotta get a gold dot or federal power shok. Those would be perfect for two legged animals in my opinion.
Thank you so much for these tests! Not sure if you take requests but i would love to see the AAC 70 gr TSX and the AAC 77 gr TMK - or the federal xm556fbit3 !! Thanks again!
👍👍great test and results. Appreciate the video. As long as I get adequate penetration the fragmentation doesn’t bother me for a self defense round but would not want it to fragment in a hunting round.
So glad I found your channel, I love your testing methods and consistency from test to test on different ammo! I would love to see you test AAC 77gr TMK and 77 gr OTM to be able to compare those results to these SBBT! I'm definitely sold on AAC ammo
Looks like good stuff. I think some fragmentation at those speeds happens with a lot of ammo. Ive seen some ammo with nice expansion and some in pieces when cleaning game. Never really know what your gonna find.
In terminal ballistics, is is basically a tipped matchking with some spicy velocity from the 62 grain. If it's anything like the original 77 grain TMKs, it should be terminally effective even below 2000 fps while being very accurate. It's actually really good to see PSA put these on the market since factory load TKMs are like hens teeth. That looks nice enough to consider over federal fusion MSR for some defense uses if one doesn't feel a bonded soft point is necessary.
i got chills at those 75 grain chrono readings from the 16 inch barrel; what most guys have -e-x-c-e-l-l-e-n-t shot placement -30 yards away, i'm not surprised at the weight loss...lets how they perform at 2-300 yards 😉
Thank you for this test can I suggest testing them out of a smaller 11.5”. So many pistol length setups out there and it would be interesting to see what happens with that much less velocity.
Howdy from Texas! New subscriber here. Just wanna say thank you for the info and how you get straight to the point and not drag the video out. Can’t wait to watch more of your videos!
I appreciate your evaluation of various AR-15 platform cartridges, especially in the gel to show expansion characteristics. Important for evaluating wound cavity, amount of fragmentation and potential for overpenetration. For defensive use, fragmentation can be desirable to inhibit passthrough. For game hunting it's a minus as you don't want to be picking lead fragments out of the meat. You've done some cartridges that others haven't. I liked the 62 grain performance. FYI -- you don't "cut the mustard" -- you "cut the muster" -- it's a very old maritime term. A ship's master (captain) would put out a muster for a crew prior to sailing specifying how many of which skill he required. The master would then take the best of those who reported. "Cutting the muster" meant being selected by the master for the crew and being allowed to sign on for the voyage.
Thank you very much. I'm a little torn about the fragmentation. Retention i believe would create a larger wound cavity but fragging would possibly cause a shredding effect. Definitely be a lot more work for a surgeon if the biped mammal made it to a "vet".
Thanks for the video. I've got these loaded in mags for home defense but have never tested them like you are here. I hope they perform well, or i just bought myself some expensive range ammo. 😂
My buddies have order cases and cases of the 75gr. I bought a mess of it and a mess of the 300BO load. The standard deviations on the 75gr and the 300BO are stuff you'd use for long range marksmanship competitions. Thanks for your reviews!

It's less that it's effective enough, and more that a much cheaper 55 grain soft point would do similar.
I know what you mean. I have a crazy good .308 round test coming this next week.😎👊
I fully understand this as someone who shoots a .44mag a lot it's a bit much.
You sir... are a fan of high PSI cartridges.
Yep. Good stuff.😎👊
Your enthusiasms makes it that much more fun to watch. Thank you
Thankful for your channel! No BS, well spoken, Gets right to the "Point"! If you could do longer range it would be awesome!
That was the one I was waiting for, thank you. I’m putting them in my cart right now.
They would definitely solve a problem.😎👊
Such a good video , and on PSA ammo , that now I am very likely to purchase .
Also, I want to compliment you on your recording of the gel test, as it was presented exceptionally well. 👍
Very good test protocol and excellent video! Thank you very much! I’ve been very interested in AAC’s Sabre blades and you provided the answers I was looking for. Both look like excellent personal defense rounds. I’ve found AAC’s 75gr HPBT to be very accurate, consistent and reliable. Keep up the great work! I’m now subscribed!
Appreciate that. Got the 55 grain and 300blk Sabre Blade still to test.😎👍
For reloaders, Mid south has the 75 grain projectiles on sale. $50 for 250
Good to see a fellow Cleetus enjoyer. Thanks for the vid! Very informative!
Hell Yeah Brother!😎👊
Great test!! I would love to see both of them out of a short AR in the 10-12 inch range, would be interesting to compare the performance.
Thank you sir.😎👊
I think in a barrel with 1:7 twist, it would perform well.
Check your packing receipt. The ones I ordered said they are 75 GR V-max with Black Tip. That explains the performance you saw which looks pretty good for self defense ammo.
Even with that fragmentation I’m pleasantly surprised by the performance. AAC seems to be making some good stuff
Yessir 😎👍
Sweet! I got a bunch of the 75grn last month, after seeing this, I'm getting a bunch more!!! Thanks, I've been waiting on this one.
😎👊
Always enjoy and appreciate all the data you provide in your testing!
Should teach accuracy shooting. Hat tip for skills. 28 yards pin pointing placement in gel. Impressive!
Thank you sir. Appreciate that.😎👊
Great video and demonstration, the weight loss in the projectiles might not be good for hunting but for home defense it might be more optimal at minimizing over penetration but remains to be seen
Cool video man, you really have hit the mark, no pun intended with these videos man....super interesting, and it's nice to hear fellow country boy explain everything.
Thank you sir. Appreciate that.😎👊
Haven’t tried any AAC ammo yet, definitely need to check them out. Very nice performance from both rounds, no problem with secondary frag tracks if there’s good penetration. Nice jelly test Tools, thanks for sharing!
I ain’t shot any of their rifle rounds, but their FMJ ball is pretty good in my Glock and HK handguns.
Thank you sir.😎👊
Can you test the Sabre black 308 next? I can’t find a single video on TH-cam
I gotta order some. As soon as I finished my last PSA order, I realized I forgot that.😣
Your channel is one of my favorites. And including yours, I have 2 favorites. The other is Hickok45. Keep 'em coming please. I enjoy all of your content, especially the tests. Thank you for the infotainment.
Thank you again! Really appreciate it!😎👊
Very pleased with the results. I had some doubts, but I'm glad I bought some 62gr now! Thank you for your hard work to test all these different rounds that you do!
Great test! Thank you for testing these for us!
Appreciate that!😎👊
Thank you very much for making this video. I just got a box in today, and the packing slip said they are Vmaxes. That seems consistent with the test results.
😎👊
That weight retention is much better than you would get from a SMK or other OTM. If you want total weight retention you gotta get a gold dot or federal power shok. Those would be perfect for two legged animals in my opinion.
Thank you so much for these tests!
Not sure if you take requests but i would love to see the AAC 70 gr TSX and the AAC 77 gr TMK - or the federal xm556fbit3 !!
Thanks again!
Thank you, I've been searching for a few weeks for this!
Got the 55 grain and .300blk to test still.😎👍
@@ToolsandTargets might look at the 55gr for home defense depending on your review
👍👍great test and results. Appreciate the video. As long as I get adequate penetration the fragmentation doesn’t bother me for a self defense round but would not want it to fragment in a hunting round.
Thank you sir.😎👍
@Tools,&Targets Man thank you for this test! Now we know what is! And great chrono readings! Great review, thank you.
So glad I found your channel, I love your testing methods and consistency from test to test on different ammo! I would love to see you test AAC 77gr TMK and 77 gr OTM to be able to compare those results to these SBBT! I'm definitely sold on AAC ammo
Appreciate that. I know I have at least one of those on the to do list.😎👍
Looks like good stuff. I think some fragmentation at those speeds happens with a lot of ammo. Ive seen some ammo with nice expansion and some in pieces when cleaning game. Never really know what your gonna find.
Like a box of chocolates!😆
Perfect for all types of varmints. Penetration concerned me, but it was perfect. Thanks for the demo. I think I will get some.
Thanks for the great review. I love seeing 5.56 ballistics reviews.
Btw, Your local shop’s 4th of July sale just started. Come on out.
Ahh man. Probably gonna be Tuesday before I can get up there.😆
Guy thought he could upload in the cover of night. No chance. Instant upvote
😂😂😂 😎👊
Nice test. Been waiting for someone to test this.
😎👊
Standard deviation of 18 and 12 are both on par with match Grade ammo I hope TSA continues to keep the quality of this ammo at this level
I ordered a few hundred and excited to see how they do. The federal softpoint were a great price but lacking a little accuracy
💥😎👊💥
In terminal ballistics, is is basically a tipped matchking with some spicy velocity from the 62 grain.
If it's anything like the original 77 grain TMKs, it should be terminally effective even below 2000 fps while being very accurate.
It's actually really good to see PSA put these on the market since factory load TKMs are like hens teeth.
That looks nice enough to consider over federal fusion MSR for some defense uses if one doesn't feel a bonded soft point is necessary.
😎👍
Outstanding results. The right amount of penetration, expansion, and wound cavity. A+!
You have done us well, again, Tools. Thank you for this one!
😎👊
That is spectacular performance for a lead core
233/5.66.
i got chills at those 75 grain chrono readings from the 16 inch barrel; what most guys have
-e-x-c-e-l-l-e-n-t shot placement
-30 yards away, i'm not surprised at the weight loss...lets how they perform at 2-300 yards 😉
This is the accent I expect for good firearms content.
😎👊
I noticed that PSA has the Sabre Black Tip in 308. There are very few reviews of it. Some of the reviews question accuracy. You should give it a try.
Looks like some good rounds. A lot of damage. Good test brother 👍🏻 🇺🇸
Thank you for this test can I suggest testing them out of a smaller 11.5”. So many pistol length setups out there and it would be interesting to see what happens with that much less velocity.
Love that fragspantion!
Thanks for another awesome video!
💥😎💥
Howdy from Texas! New subscriber here. Just wanna say thank you for the info and how you get straight to the point and not drag the video out. Can’t wait to watch more of your videos!
Thank you sir. Appreciate that!😎👊
PSA currently has the 75gr version ON SALE for $10.99/box.
All 5.56 velocity is measured from a 20 inch barrel. My brother works for Vista outdoors,so I asked him, only took 2 weeks to get a answer.
Been thinking about picking some of this up. Thank you very much for the test data.
Great test, brother! After watching a ton of pistol tests, it's fun to watch the jelly contraption jump around like that.
Thank you sir. Rifle stuff is just on a whole nother level.😎👊
Thanks for the video. I've got these loaded in mags for home defense but have never tested them like you are here. I hope they perform well, or i just bought myself some expensive range ammo. 😂
all 5.56 i’ve ever tried has been great! best caliber by far
Great show. Just bought some AAC, glad to see the performance. Always impressed by the accuracy. If I could do shoot like that I’d be content.
Thank you sir.😎👊
My buddies have order cases and cases of the 75gr. I bought a mess of it and a mess of the 300BO load.
The standard deviations on the 75gr and the 300BO are stuff you'd use for long range marksmanship competitions.
Thanks for your reviews!
Great video two thumbs up👍👍. You are one of the few gun person that does the ballistic gel correctly. I want to see what the bullet will do after the denim and clothing test. Then into the gel block. By the way, great hat! A real signature calling card to remember you 👍.
Thank you sir. Appreciate that!😎👊
That does have great retention.... compare these to a Vmax or other similar rounds. The Vmax basically explodes leaving almost nothing
