6 Months with the Shimoda Urban Explore Backpack

- I already did a walk-through of the Shimoda Urban Explore a few months ago, but there are some things I have noticed with this backpack that I wasn't a huge fan of, and I wanted to talk about them before you decide to spend money on a backpack and possibly regret it.
I forgot to add that this back also does not stand on its own, which is quite a bummer.
Note: I purchased this myself and am not affiliated with Shimoda. This is an expensive backpack so I want to make sure you know the possible issues before buying it.

@5:30 those are lines of salt from sweat. Every bag will cause that, after sweating the shirt dries and leaves behind salt. Happens on baseball cap brims as well.
I realized that after I uploaded this video lol. Just never happened after months of use back in the states.
This is the most honest review I’ve seen on this bag! Thank you, appreciated!
Glad to help! Thanks for watching!
Nice long-term review. I wish there were more long term reviews rather than the initial hype videos as well.
I appreciate that kind comment! That is my goal, an initial, no hype review. And then a long term review. I’ve had a pocket 3 for about 4-5 months but waiting on doing the review on it just because I want to actually use the gear before doing a review.
Nice video talking more about practicality than the hype.
Thanks! Hope it helps!!
Enjoyed a critical review. Lets me decide what would bug me vs. What wouldn’t bother me. Thanks
Glad it helped! I try to not be too negative, but sometimes I feel some of these reviews nowadays are always too positive!
Great review of the bag, I feel like you definitely covered a lot of issues I had not though about but make a lot of sense. I personally feel the BIGGEST flaw in this bag is its stand-up ability, all camera bags should stand when put down and this one does not. For the price of this bag that is a big failure. I made a comment on the Shimoda video about the price and the Shimoda rep kind of jested about how it was the price it was so they could stay in business, I found that was not funny and also imo not true. I have the Action X40 and it is fantastic I cannot say enough good things about that bag, but I can't understand why a bag made with much less material and features is in the same point bracket as the Action x. Keep making great content this video was fantastic, Cheers.
YES. I realized I forgot to add that after I uploaded and did the whole video. But that is another issue. I took it to Croatia and had to always sit it in a seat in the airport because it doesn’t stand up by it self. And for this price point? That’s a lot of stuff that’s missing
@@TheAdamToyif you want the bag to stand on it’s own and don’t mind losing the rain fly, take it out and stuff some socks between the bag and the cube towards the front. It will give the bag more stability so it can stand on its own (sometimes).
Good call! Definitely something I could do! Just one of those things I wish was better with this bag!
@@hasenmyer that's definitely an idea that can work sometimes but I think the point was more that a bag at this price point should have that as a baseline requirement.

Thanks for review
No worries! Thanks for watching!!
I would recommend you replace the camera cube with a cube from another brand. I personally like ThinkTank StashMaster.
That’s a good idea! I honestly think I may need a 35L bag
You are making amazing video content. I just watched the video and your video quality is appreciable.🚀🚀🚀🚀💘💘💘💘
Thank you.
Still liking the black or do you wish you would have gotten the tan?
I'm torn. I love both colors! I like the black though because it is easier to match clothing! I just they had it in a deep forest green!
@ lol! I pulled the trigger on the tan. Shows less dog hair!
Oh that’s a great reason!!
@ I had bought the black, received it and then b and h had a killer deal (still do) so was able to change my mind!
I just looked. Those are really good deals for that bag! If it was that price all the time, I wouldn't have been so hard on the bag! lol
good job!
Thanks!
Can be use like flight personal item?
Absolutely! Just used mine on a trip to Croatia!
@@TheAdamToythank you !
it’s the 35L size?
This was the 25L. But 35L should work too!
❤
White marks on a black tee…. That’s not off the bag. That’s sweat 😂
Haha, usually that’s what I would assume too. But It’s from the bag this time!
My guess is the 'spongy' material of the strap has been absorbing sweat for many days, but only once saturated, salt eventually comes out.
Interesting! Thanks for that! I do know they send out an email when about people complaining about a chalky texture when they shipped. So I wanted to include this. I appreciate your help!
It’s definitely just sweat. Sweat has salt in it, so if you sweat a lot in dark clothing, the salt shows up. Same thing happens to me when I wear dark pants for skateboarding. You’re wearing a backpack and a black shirt in a hot, probably humid climate. Nothing wrong or surprising about some sweat. 🤷
Good call! Just hadn’t seen it before and I wear it a lot with a similar climate. Thanks for the response!
