- New recommendations have seen a push for a sugar tax to be introduced in Australia to tackle the epidemic of diabetes and obesity, but will it actually work?
Executive Manager of the Food for Health Alliance Jane Martin joins us.

OF COURSE
another tax is the solution.
It has worked in many countries with good results coming. With 2 out of 3 Australians living with overweight or obesity, actions such as sugar tax and labelling that have been tried and tested with results elsewhere need to be considered and actioned.
@CarolinePilot which countries are those?
And can you appreciate that we are already paying a friggen tax on every single other thing we use. It's beyond a joke and I am sick of watching mine, and everyone else's wealth being taken and squandered by these governments.
Nanny state always expanding.
Troll, always complaining

@@arcluxC'mon mate. It was pretty funny I thought.
Sugar is the new cigarette, you have to take these guys to the courts otherwise they will NOT stop killing kids!
Can media stop saying the singular word diabetes when talking about this- please clarify it’s Type 2 diabetes they are talking about that is caused by diet and lifestyle. Otherwise people think Type 1 diabetes is caused by this, which it is not.
A better idea would be to have higher regulations and clarity on highly processed foods. These foods not only have higher levels of sugar but the chemicals involved have higher health risks.
Sugar isn't independently fattening.
it Wont stop people from buying it
Well then it would help to fund the treatment. Great!
great messaging Jane. Wholeheartedly agree that spoons of sugar in a scale that is relatable. Re cost of living - water is free and a much healthier option, so encouraging the switch can only be good for the public, not so good for the big coffers of manufacturers, they'd need to think laterally with new formulations.
Can we just get to taxing corporations properly already? 😑 Hope you covered the senate report about ASIC on your show tonight because I don't see a segment upload on your channel yet. 🤨
