Funny that you call it "a red IKEA" because together with some other newer stadiums the one in Mainz constantly gets mocked as home or hardware center by away fans. 😂 Anyway, it should be mentioned that the arena has some quirky features: ⚽ The pitch is 5 meters below ground level because they could only build to a certain height to avoid blocking the blow of fresh air from the hillside towards the city. Creates somewhat of a wow-factor when you come in and see that the stands are much larger than they seem from outside. ⚽ The standing terrace of the home fans is the second largest in German football after Dortmund's "Gelbe Wand" with a capacity of 13.800. ⚽ The lower tier on the opposite main stand is not officially a standing section but is labeled as "Support" where everyone is supposed to stand. It's a reminisce to the same stand in the old Bruchwegstadion (which is only 3 km from the new arena btw), the traditional support section from pre-ultras days. The old fans wanted to keep their spots in the new stadium, so they built it the same way - but with the comfortable add-on of numbered seats that fold up. ⚽ And speaking of Jürgen Klopp: He closely missed 3 promotions to the Bundesliga before finally succeeding in 2004. He was a player when Wolfsburg and Mainz met on the last matchday of the 96/97 season. In one of the most dramatic clashes in German football history Wolfsburg won 5:4 and secured the last spot - and has stayed in the Bundesliga ever since. As a coach he missed promotion by 1 point in 2002 (1:3 loss at Union) and by 1 goal in 2003 (with Eintracht Frankfurt pulling ahead of Mainz in the 93rd minute to beat Reutlingen 6:3). The following season the 05er made it with the lowest score any team ever got promoted with: laughable 54 points. 🤷♂ Love your Bochum videos btw. Some of my fondest childhood memories are from when my dad's business partners took us to the Ruhrstadion once in a while. Saw the legendary 2:0 over Hamburg in the DFB Pokal semi-finals in 1988. Always love to come back to Bochum!

Speaking of mind games: the stadium's capacity is set at exactly 33.300 and Null Fünf (33.305) on purpose! Despite seemingly being off-grid, the Arena actually is really well and easily accessible by FREE shuttle services (bus / tram) from the Central Railway Station. All it takes to get there is a five minute ride and a ten minute walk. I also love the shady Beergarden adjacent to the stadium that is open all summer long, not only on gamedays. Wonderful video btw!
Cool to see an englishman being interested in the Mainz football club. For your info to the local wines: In Frankfurt it's "Äppler" - Applewine mixed with sparkling water, in Mainz we have "Schoppe" - white or rosé wine mixed with sparkling water (You can see it written on the tent for a glimpse of a second on 07:56). Nice and fair created video! I'm a Mainz fan since 2000, club member since 2004 and season ticket holder since 2010. I like the design of the stadium but the location not so much. In my view, football grounds should be in the cities not outside of them. Anyway, as a Dane I'm following Mainz with half an eye as they have a Danish head coach, Bo Henriksen, and I'm delighted to see them doing so well. I think they've got a good chance of qualifying for Europe. Fun fact: Henriksen was once League Two top scorer in the 2002-03 season while playing for Kidderminster Harriers. Trust me, we Mainzer dislike the location of the „new“ stadium as well. The problem here in Germany are all the regulations that have to be followed in accordance to get the permission to build a new stadium. It shouldn‘t be too close to the city to avoid disturbance of the residents and it shouldn‘t be too far in the nature to not disturb the wildlife. So the club had to fight many battles before they were allowed to start building. You also have to keep in mind, that although Mainz is the capital and biggest city of Rheinland-Pfalz, it is relatively small, why it‘s called the city of short ways. So there are actually not many places around here that provide enough space for a stadium that size. That being said: Most Mainz fans favorize the old Bruchwegstadion which is still in use for the women team and the Youth teams (where our under 19 boys have beaten Barcelona and Manchester City last year by the way) :-)

@@RysFootyParadise Thank you for your response. Mainz built Klopp. First as a player, then as a coach. The fact that Klopp became what he is today owes a lot to the city of Mainz, the way of life in Mainz and the local mentality.
That's the sad trend in Germany, and probably Europe, to build new stadiums in the middle of nowhere. Sure, it is cheaper there, but it is losing its charme. (Btw, beside Dortmund, also Mainz fans are ashamed of JK meanwhile being a Red Bull puppet. Not sure why he threw all of his renomy overboard just for even more money).
Honestly, I don't even think he's doing it just for the money. I guess he has accepted Red Bull as a global player in 'modern football' and eventually even respected them after being part of this world over the years, especially due to his work in the Premier League, and is now even welcoming them in order just to form and develop young players.
14:08 Hoffenheim is a part of the Gemeinde Sinsheim so their stadium is still in their home city somewhat, it might not be in the village itself but still very close

I've been looking at how to get to each of the Budesliga stadiums, and Mainz seems a really tricky one to get to with it being in the middle of a field. How easy would it be to get there if you weren't going by car?
Actually, almost nobody is arriving by car! The VAST majority of fans arrive by public transit and shuttle busses; a few hours before the game our bus services offer shuttle busses from the main station to the stadium free of charge, so pretty much every minute or so you can get on a bus or a tram that gets to fairly close to the stadium; you just have to walk for like another 10 minutes into the middle of the field and you're at the stadium! This was purposely designed that way so that fans could walk off some of their excess energy after a win or frustration after a lose from their team, being a bit calmer once they've reached the bus stop.
Hello, no it´s very easy. You can take tram number 53 from Hauptbahnhof west to Jakob Heinz Straße, you can already see the stadium there. Best wishes for you.
@@ziebelzubel I have seen some really great design features of some German Stadiums, and having a 10 minute walk to public transit is an open area to let off steam seems like one of the best to date!
Actually the Stadium location of Hoffenheim in Sinsheim is not that bad - the stadium itself is kinda boring and quiet. But if you come by subway, you walk by a museum for transportation or so, you see a Concorde plane and the russian equvillent from the Kiosk where many fans have a beer. Well, that´s the highlight because the atmosphere in the stadium can´t cope with even an average BL stadion.

Sorry to correct you. Somehow we are the club that formed Klopp and Tuchel - and not the other way around... :-)
Not sure what you mean by the other way round? 😅 I know both came from Mainz haha
@@RysFootyParadise Thank you for your response. Mainz built Klopp. First as a player, then as a coach. The fact that Klopp became what he is today owes a lot to the city of Mainz, the way of life in Mainz and the local mentality.
Ohh yes Mainz built Klopp, Klopp didn’t build Mainz - I gotcha 😉👍🏾 great club, respect from a Bochum fan 🍻
Sorted out by Eintracht Frankfurt's fittings. Who would have thought back then what kind of career he would have?
Nice video mate, I want to visit Köln next month or the next does anyone know what is the best website to book flights for cheap?
always use booking .com personally
Yeah I realised that when I came to make the video on Hoffenheim today 🤣
It is not in Hoppenheim itself and that's what matters.
The ground I couldn't make work last year :(
Did you go to the Mainz - Stuttgart game aswell?
I was staying in Frankfurt for the Eintracht v Dortmund game :)
@RysFootyParadise ah thats a shame
I dont like the Stadium but for the alogorithm always like and commentary 😊
Legend 💙 flights booked for Bochum v Dortmund 👍🏾
And we don't even care about Bochum because you are so irrelevant.
I've been looking at how to get to each of the Budesliga stadiums, and Mainz seems a really tricky one to get to with it being in the middle of a field. How easy would it be to get there if you weren't going by car?
I always hire a car in Germany as it’s cheap and so much easier getting around 🤩
Hello,
no it´s very easy.
You can take tram number 53 from Hauptbahnhof west to Jakob Heinz Straße, you can already see the stadium there.
Best wishes for you.
Thank you both @ziebelzubel and @paulmainz05fan for your replies. They were both very helpful.
By subway 😂😂😂😂😂😂
@@brazzo975 it is called S-Bahn, probably suburban railway would be a better translation, I agree. Sorry for my bad english
Ryan - love your content of spreading awareness to the non-native German speakers! As an American supporting / creating content around Werder Bremen, we do this to spread awareness of the club and Bundesliga… and I 👏 your work… keep it up!
But for the love of your club… please TRY and avoid wearing other Bundesliga kits… VFL Bochum is YOUR religion and stick to it!
FYI... Mainz (the city) is beautiful! Your tour was very insightful and cool to see the stadium is built "in the middle of nowhere".
I'm in a dilemma because obviously I hadn't planned to be a fan of a club, so bought loads of shirts and wanted to rep every club I visit... but I think I'll have to change the plan a bit 🤣 this'll always be a football channel, not a Bochum channel... Even though I'll be REALLY REALLY BIAS 🙊
@@RysFootyParadise mate, as long as your VfL friends don't mind, which I'm sure they don't, keep on doing your thing. real fans of the sport can appreciate what you do
@@werderBRIAN would you recommend going there?
@@obaboiio i'd recommend visiting Mainz + Frankfurt. But Dusseldorf and Koln are my other favorites in this region... outside of Hamburg, Bremen (🤓), Berlin and Munich.
Nice video! Always thought the Mainz stadium feels a bit british with the "open" corners.
Maybe you can do a video and show the difference in food german and british Fans can get at their stadiums. In germans it can feel a bit boring with the Bratwursts and currywursts with pommes at every stadium. I always envy the british Fans with their meatpies and mashed potatos with gravy 😅
Your food is nicer, but we have more choice 😅 good idea I'll do a food video
@@RysFootyParadisein Mainz we have more choice as sausages and fries too.
This stadium in the middle of nowhere is nice but boring like a girlfriend who is not willing to come along to see a match also I can see in the future further developments of the area so the farm fields will be gone.
You urgently need to go to Kaiserslautern and watch a game there if you want to want to experience a real atmosphere. We are by far the biggest club in Rhineland-Palatinate (not Mainz, but they would like to be).
It’s definitely on my list, I come to Germany every month but normal base myself where Bochum are if it’s an auswärtstag… although we could be playing you in the 2. Bundesliga next season 😅
They are so big...they almost broke under there weight.
They are so drunk about there importance that nobody there cares about good football since decades...
You should Visit Veltins Arena mate
Already have a few times on the channel 😊 stadium tour & Matchday 🍻
@@RysFootyParadise Ah thanks mate, just found your channel now through recomendations...ill look it up rn....take care and head on with your way

I love your videos! You deserve more views and subscribers mate! Greetings from brown and white Hamburg! 🤎🤍❤🏴☠️
Thanks mate! Look forward to returning to St. Pauli for the last game of the season 👍🏾 (just hope Bochum aren’t relegated by then)
