I believe there are actually 2 methods to this event. There's method B (the one you got) where the lasers fire at lower power, eventually overloading, and then there's method A where the lasers charge up the whole time and then fire at the very end causing instant explosion.
method b is the one he got. method a is Special code (which is basically the same but the timer is a bit different and the music is extended though it is still panic track) edit: method A "Self-destruct forced" and is developer only

They are around the place, if there's a white glowing key, it's the killswitch, or the 3 laser powerdown keys.
There's one in the coolant area (next to the pool valves), one ontop of the flashlight giver at spawn, and one near the bunker I believe.
