  • Foreigner Tries To Buy Kurta For Taj Mahal | Agra | India
Lawrence has wanted a Kurta for the last 5 days... but hasn't found the right one. After our trip from Delhi, Janpath to Agra, we visit a shop that had thousands of Kurta, all shapes and sizes. Lawrence finally found the colour he wanted and we checked into the most amazing homestay. Ate some home cooked traditional Indian food ready for our early morning adventure to the wonder of the world Taj Mahal. What a day! Thank you India 🇮🇳 Next we visit the Taj Mahal!

We are Eleise and Lawrence & Nyh - A young family from the south of England. Like many people the pandemic gave us a shake up! While watching hours of Mark Weins in Thailand - We had our “Ah ha” Moment. We decided we wanted to travel.
Enjoying working for ourselves, we didn’t want to give up our business and decided it was entirely possible for us to do both. So we set about making it our lifestyle to work in the UK for a month, and then travel for a month - month on, month off…. until our little boy Nyh goes to school! We want to inspire people that you don’t have to up-sticks, sell all your belongings and leave behind family to be able to see the world.

At home food is always simpler than restaurant because in India people occasionally go out to have heavy food. Trust me we do not have chicken tikka masala or butter chicken with naan daily! It's more like a ocassional food! You'll find simple and cleaner version of different curries at home! Often eaten with simple rice and multigrain rotis at home! It's amazing you got to try home made local food

Home made curry is always good for Healthwise. In Restaurant, They put food colour to look more delicious but cant be eaten daily and they put sugar to make gravy thick which is also not healthy to eat daily. And while travelling if you get home cooked food then its best thing because you wont get sick while travelling.

Another main difference in home cooked Indian meals and restaurant meals is the oil used. Generally all restaurants use palm oil since that is cheaper... While in many homes they use either mustard, rice bran, sunflower, or whatever is the local oil. Some even use ghee instead of oil...

homecooked vegetables and curries are traditionally less spicy and use less masalas, very healthy and homely taste........outside they go rich on oils, creams, butter, ghee, spices and salt. What you got is indeed homestyle cooked food and quite healthy. I'm a chef, born and raised in America, now living in India, from a proper North Indian Punjabi family, I specialize in Indian and American foods, so there you have it

We ourselves can't digest those butter chicken or tikka masala everyday 😅
Our daily food includes simple Green vegetables, rice or chapatis only..Also soupy lentils.. very less spicy or greasy in comparison to restuarants.
Naan is once in a month or two months thing 😅

    Hey Eleise and Lawrence,
You should visit Kolkata. There's gonna be a huge festival called Durga Puja during Navratri, the festival which celebrates the victory of Mother Goddess Durga over the evil demon Mahishasura, which this year, begins from 25th September to 5th October (Actually the main festival starts from 30th September). There are gonna be huge idols of goddess Durga within the pandals (big beautifully themed temporary shelter made from bamboo, cloths and other materials where the Goddess stays and where she is worshipped). There are gonna be crowds of people who hop the pandal literally the whole night and the whole city filled with pandals is gonna be lit with lights. You'll be stunned.

For those tourists who are worried about train tickets... train reservations open 3 months prior to the journey date but There is an option to book tatkal tickets... These are special tickets sold at 5-10% premium. The sale starts on the day before the day the train starts from the beginning point. For example if a train starts at 8.pm on 31st from Kolkata going to Jaipur and you want to board the train fron Delhi at 6am on 1st. You can book the tatkal tickets on the 30th starting 10.am ist. However these too get sold out in 30mins to an hour... But is really helpful for last minute reservations...
The word tatkal can be loosely translated to immediate/urgent/last minute/now.
Note: the train info I gave was an example for explaining the concept of tatkal and not a real train schedule...
