I'm so glad you got back in to crafting. I follow a lot of l people and most of them now teach and don't craft to sell anymore. I was beginning to feel that if I didn't teach and set up memberships I was never going to make it as a crafter. I'm glad you have found success in your crafting again. It gives me hope. I'm working on my etsy shop.
Yes, I was feeling the same! I have owned my own physical craft business before, but it's changed A LOT since then and I am excited to be trying this new venture!
Congratulations on your new business venture, Cori, and thank you for sharing and being transparent with your journey with us. I have a few disadvantages that you mentioned, being 62 and retired with several illness causing me to retire being 2 of them. Honestly, I did start to feel underprivileged hearing you mentioning that part, but I do know what I do have, is a blessing and gives me strength and determination to make my business venture a success, in the way I need it to be, no matter what I may come up against and your sharing has given me information about myself that I never reflected on (one, not to be intimidated by the talents of others which gave me fear from charging for my talent and even putting myself out there). So, again, thank you and keep hanging on in there, our crafty friend! ❤😊
As a newer small business owner, I absolutely love and appreciate this video. I’ve loved your channel for a long time but this is so helpful! I’d love to get deeper into graphic design because I truly love when I make my own concepts or ideas and it makes it feel like it’s really mine. I currently use Canva Pro, Creative Fabrica and the various software for my craft machines and I would love to hear options for learning more 😊
I have a whole TH-cam series on starting to use Adobe Illustrator! It's what I use to do all of my designs. It does have a fee, but it's really the gold standard for this type of design. Glad to have you following along on this journey! th-cam.com/video/hNKfp1sQUEg/w-d-xo.html
congratulations on the new business. I am a crafter trying to get my business going. I am in my late 60's and have started and stopped several times because of all the little life happenings. I look forward to all your helpful information. I have followed you for a while and have learned so much from you. Thank you for sharing
Hey, Cori! I'm a fellow Washingtonian. 😊 I mostly lurk, but I identified so much with how 2024 started for you with family health and your own health complications (mine started in fall of 2023 and is finally beginning to improve, albeit it's been a slow process). I literally had to abandon my free-lance work to help out (like you, family first)--we roll with life's punches, right? My husband is about to retire so I'm not trying to "start over", but I'm slowly finding what I'd like to do as a side-hustle, and, to be honest, personal creative fulfillment. I am so SO happy for you and that you have found a new source of joy in your new side-hustle! GO, GIRL!!! I'm tickled to see you rockin' it!
Congratulations, Cori! For the record, though, I don't agree that age is related to the ability to adapt to changes in technology. Learning and using new technologies is more about desire than ability. There are many, many advantages of youth; that is not necessarily one of them.
Good to know! I was probably thinking about a few certain crafters I know personally and I know tech is a struggle for them :) But I do know there are definitely older folks who excel!
Congratulations!🎉 that is wonderful to hear! i understand what you mean about having constant ideas, sometimes it's just overwhelming because i can't write them down quick enough!! thank you for your transparency, it makes it all the better to relate to what you were going through. i like what you said about the joy you feel when creating and i couldn't agree more, if i feel forced when i'm making something it just doesn't turn out as nice as if i had joy when making it!! ❤ looking forward to your new content!!!!!
Cori, very interesting side project! Love it! I LOVE reading, I do it all the time, whenever I can. I read all kind of books - in German, which is my mother language as well as in English and I really couldn't live without my little Kindle! So great idea and love your designs!
I’m so glad you’ve been able to do more crafting. And over 600 Etsy sales! That’s amazing! I’m so happy for you. I’m a huge reader, too. That’s part of my problem. I’d rather read than concentrate on getting my Etsy shop up and running. But you’ve inspired me to move forward with it. I don’t have a clue how to get involved with a local craft fair, but that sounds like a great way to capture impulse buys. I’ll be following along on your new journey and wish you all the best! Also, I’m so sorry about the loss of your friend.
Congratulations on your new business and I am excited to go along with you to see the process, I am thinking of setting up a business to help my son’s business his logo on items. I just don’t know how to get it started thank you for this.
Congratulations! I love all your videos and tutorials. I have some equipment and most things I make turn out quite nice. I would love to start a fb page and maybe Etsy but I’m not so confident yet. I also understand how you suffer in pain. I’m going through chronic back pain and severe neuropathy. It’s not just hard physically but it is also mentally. I find I struggle to make things when it gets me down mentally. Your videos help me and give me a boost. Thank you 😊
I'm glad you find my videos helpful! My best advice would be to do what you can when you can! We have to listen to our bodies...or else they'll MAKE us listen to them.
I have a lot of the same advantages as you, like time, support, youth (ish haha I'm 40), and my kid is older. I don't have the fancy machines (I have a Cricut and iPad tho) yet. I'm working on honing my digital art (pattern making) skills right now so I can try to start with digital products. Then if that is successful and makes money I can go into other things. I like hands on crafting the most, but the upfront costs are prohibitive at the moment. So basically my craft hobby is turning into a job so I can fund the hobby lol Thanks for this video, it's always nice to see more honest behind the scenes vs the flashy "I MADE 1 MILLION DOLLARS IN ONE DAY USING AI" crap well all see all the time haha
I couldn't get the quality i wanted with my current machines. The Cricut waterproof stickers were close, but it was much cheaper in the long run to have them printed. I am looking at getting a sticker printer/cutter though because I really want to do them inhouse!
I know what you are talking about with Fibromyalgia, I am 68 and work two jobs and have had Fibromyalgia for years. I need to do more so I can make more money, groceries are getting more and more expensive. I need a third income to keep up. Thank you so much for this video, you are amazing, congratulations on your new shop
Do you have a website or Spotify along with Etsy? Or would you just recommend etsy for someone who is just starting out. Thank you for your wonderful videos. They have been so helpful!
I would recommend Etsy for someone just starting out. I do have a site I'm working on starting to promote at chapterandcraft.com but it's much harder to drive traffic there without the SEO functions of Etsy helping me out.
Awesome job! I went to check out your store after the last "Crafting for Profit" episode. Your shop is a book lovers dream! One question...to make stickers with the actual names of published books, did you have to get permission to use them?
I do everything in Adobe Illustrator. It does have a fee and a learnin curve, but I think it's the gold standard for crafting graphic design :) th-cam.com/video/yBYBFvADSF8/w-d-xo.html
Hi Cori! Question on your Etsy shop. Have you ran into any copyright issues selling book niche items? I know Etsy is pretty big on copyright and at first glance, amazing job on the successful shop!! I’m just curious if selling items with authors name/titles on it is an issue on a website such as Etsy.
This is definitely something I would do your own research on. Most books/titles/authors are a bit different than using a Disney image, for example. Etsy is not typically the ones who crack down, but the copyright/trademark owners. They will find and report it on Etsy.
Couldn't you make digital files to download from your Etsy store so you don't have to make all of your products and ship them out? It might be a nice option for people that are more out of your country so they don't need to pay an arm and a leg for shipping and may help you to make money while you sleep or have to do mom stuff or even deal with pain. Some people don't mind printing their own artwork, especially if they just have to pay a small fee for a digital file. Also, drop-shipping may be a great alternative for you too. If you prefer to physically make stuff, you can still do that, but adding those extra alternatives may be helpful in alleviating some of the extra work and you can reach more people. Just a thought.
I actually have my art prints as digital files in my Etsy shop! You can download all of my art prints in five different sizes with a single purchase so people can have them printed. I am also looking at doing printable stickers :)

Yes! I think sometimes we can get down about our disadvantages but we can also use them as motivation! I'm glad you're here!

YES. I really want my content to be for real crafters without ruining the Etsy platform with print on demand or AI. Thank you!
Congratulations on your new adventure.. I'm curious, will all the crafts you are able to do, why did you decide to outsource your stickers?
I couldn't get the quality i wanted with my current machines. The Cricut waterproof stickers were close, but it was much cheaper in the long run to have them printed. I am looking at getting a sticker printer/cutter though because I really want to do them inhouse!

Thank you so much. I am sorry you are also struggling. Do what you can and don't overwork yourself, if possible. Hugs.

What is the best way to print stickers? You said you have your printed. What kind of printer do you use for that?
This is my favorite method: th-cam.com/video/UKB503pb198/w-d-xo.html and I have an HP Envy printer that does really well!
Awesome job! I went to check out your store after the last "Crafting for Profit" episode. Your shop is a book lovers dream! One question...to make stickers with the actual names of published books, did you have to get permission to use them?
Book titles are not copyrighted, but I am also working on getting as many of these licensed as possible!
@HeyLetsMakeStuff oh...thank you! can't wait to follow along on your new adventure!
I’m curious where would you recommend to start to learn graphic design?
I do everything in Adobe Illustrator. It does have a fee and a learnin curve, but I think it's the gold standard for crafting graphic design :) th-cam.com/video/yBYBFvADSF8/w-d-xo.html
I know her! She's famous! ;-) Loving it!
