these two songs are from an album called folklore that came out in july 2020. she wrote the whole album in isolation from march to july! then she released an album called evermore that came out in december 2020. she wrote that album from august to december.
I have to say I love how seb isn't actively fighting that he was wrong on Taylor and actively is learning more and more as he moves forward, people rarely do that
I used to listen to a song or two- but “pop princess” wasn’t my thing. Then I actually listened to her catalog. Def a fan. It’s the poetry, the lyricism, the cleverness of her phrasing. Def fell in love with her songs.
Aaron Dessner is in the band The National, and has a side project with Bon Iver called Big Red Machine. Long Pond Studio is his personal studio in upstate NY. I would definitely recommend watching the entire Long Pond session -- she performs the songs acoustically and explains her thought process along the way. This "session" was the first time all 3 (Taylor, Aaron and Jack Antonoff) were physically together, as they'd each recorded their parts separately.
So glad you checked this out! You did miss the part where she talks about the song Hoax, though, which offers a lot of perspective. Always love your reactions, keep going! 💗 ETA: I recommend watching Exile, August, and The Lakes from this session as well.

the guy that she was talking to is Aaron Dessner. he's been one of taylor's main producers since folklore. he is also apart of a band called the national. he has since produce gracie abrams' most recent album and ed sheeran's most recent album
It’s amazing how good all the Long Pond sessions are; each usually has the interview just before the song is shown giving great insight (like with Peace). The story of how she asked Aaron Dessner to be apart of this is pretty cute. Highly recommend all of them. Seriously.
I hope you do more of these, especially My Tears Ricochet (Which is my fave from this album) and This is Me Trying

I love how he grabs his wife’s hand when he’s listening…he did this several times. I can tell he sincerely adores his wife…unconditional love.
I can't imagine being this famous. Like she says, no matter how much love she could give someone... she can't give them peace, because her career makes her life chaos. This is my first time hearing this one, but to me this is her cry for someone brave enough to stick with her, thru this crazy journey in life that she is caught up in. She is so famous, rich & successful that she gets no privacy & constant scrutiny. That takes a confident strong man to live that life. Maybe I am way off base. LOL Who knows. Gonna find it with lyrics & listen again..
This song was pretty clear about her and Joe. He is a notoriously private person but she knows that, no matter what, she will never be able to give him all the relative anonymity that he had before they met. So she’s asking if whatever sense of normalcy she can give him is enough. Sadly, it appears that this may have at least somewhat played a part in their downfall.
It’s not just her romantic life, either, it’s also her friendships. She goes into it a bit more in … I think it was Miss Americana, which I really hope Seb watches (if not also reacts to). What she said really stuck with me, how she’s the only person she knows who essentially always goes out with a full mobile trauma room, because she receives so many death threats, and the fear that her presence will cause other people to be injured. And how that makes it hard to go out, so she does things like have bowling alleys in her house so she can have friends come over to recreate a “going out” experience somewhere safe… but then she gets lambasted for “being spoiled” or having all these “elitist” house parties. She literally can’t win - and would likely get blamed for any shooting that did occur with her as the target, too. 🫤
I just rewatched Folklore The Long Pond Sessions on Disney+ this morning. The thing about this that is super cool, is that in this program, it is the first time they all actually played the album together, and it was recorded in these “sessions”. The whole album Folklore was made during the pandemic with none of them actually in the same room. They each played and sang their parts separately and turned it into the album and released it during the pandemic. Also the discussions before each song are great. HIGHLY RECOMMEND the entire show.
Really NEED you guys to cover Exile - listen to both the studio version and The Long Pond version. WORTH IT. One of my favorites of her collaborations. I get chills every time I hear it.
Also Aaron Dessner collaborated with her on her last 3 albums: Folklore, Evermore, and Midnights. (Plus some of the Taylor’s Version Re-records). Those 3 albums are next-level TS and if you haven’t listened to them, you should asap.

He also collaborated with the female singer from Of Monsters and Men, Nanna, on her solo album. Working with Taylor has made his Long Pond studio THE hot place to record. 😂 Which is great for him; he’s so damned talented.
Someone may have already commented this but an important lyric is, “there’s robbers to the east, clowns to the west.” I don’t think this was accidental at all so if you know what she has been through this stands out. Robbers to the east refers to her music being stolen because her old label is in Nashville. Who lives on the west coast?Kanye West and he’s a clown in my opinion😂

Oh, you'll love the albums Folklore and Evermore for sure then. Most of the songs were written over tracks by Aarón Dessner, you'll see the writing credits listed as Taylor Swift and Aaron Dessner, or Taylor and Jack Antonoff, her other producer.
Folklore and Evermore are easily her best albums so far. Amazing songwriting and folky vibe. Definitely react to the full Long Pond sessions.

Her two folks albums Folklore and Evermore are my favorites! Aaron Dessner, Jack Antonoff and Taylor all collaborated on them. They make such beautiful music together! You should watch more of the long pond sessions.
I definetly think seb would love folklore and evermore. These are very word heavy songs though, so I think the formula for the videos should be different cause he seems to get lost in the melody haha. That's great too because it is in fact gorgeous, but it would be a shame to miss the poetry of it all. The long pond sessions for folklore are great for getting context I feel like.
Nice! One of the best guitar tuffs from Aaron is Tis the damn Season. While they were filming the long one studio sessions that you just watched, they wrote other songs! He had written the guitar to Tis the Damn Season years before & he said it was his favorite he had ever written in his life. He could never finish it. One night. She Aaron & Jack were up late drunk until around 2/3am. They all went to bed but Taylor stayed up and write Tis the Damn Season. The next morning, she played it for Aaron at breakfast. He said he cried when he heard it for the first time. With the song Evermore, it’s my favorite song in the evermore album.

I love listening to the Long Pond studio conversations she has with the guys before each song on Folklore regarding the meaning of the lyrics, etc. It’s the best way to react to each song for sure! Her lyrics aren’t always the easiest to navigate, so any insight into the song before listening is awesome!
As someone who has lived with deathreats off and on in my life I know what it takes including trying to hide your friends so that they don’t get in the way the day someone comes for you. That is the elephant in the room. But some people will not accept to give in to the threats and say I’ll stay regardless. I’m humbled by that but also that means that I’ll do everything to not have you in the crosshairs but I can’t promise won’t promise that I’ll not be me. I want to live.

That's a perfect way of putting it, just because she has a privileged life doesn't mean it's not hard and that she can't dislike some aspects of her life
Ricochet is mesmerizing from this session…written about her label and how they sold her music out from under her. That one is a must.
I just found your account today and always enjoy people’s TS reactions. I’ve seen the eras tour live 4 times and I also have tickets for next years New Orleans show! It will be the best concert/experience ever. Take it all in and take pics/vids because the concert amnesia is real. Lol.

Long pond sessions were the first ones I listened to- both the songs which was mainly acoustic or just piano, and the interviews which was then taken down and switched up a bit. She is talking to Aaron Dessner who is from the band "The National".
It's a shame that the interview bit here was changed. Originally it was the 3 producers, at night outside around a sort of campfire, and seemed more organic.

There is another project of Aaron Dessner (the guy on piano and bass here) with Bin Iver and a feature with Taylor. They did a couple of songs together, but "Birch" by Big Red Machine feat. Taylor might be something for you. It's incredibly atmospheric. I really love it and when you loved this bass so much, I'd recommend it.

I agree with everyone who has been suggesting the entire Long Pond Sessions movie. Every song is great. I can't choose between folklore and evermore - together they are my favorite Taylor albums (which is saying a lot because I love them all).

Aaron, his twin brother, and one other guy are The National, but Aaron Dessner and Justin Vernon (of Bon Iver said both ways) also have a band called Big Red Machine. Taylor featured on a song called "Renegade" with Big Red Machine (not Big Machine Records her old label), it is really good. Taylor also featured on The National's song called "The Alcott" another great one. Aaron doesn't sing, he is a musician and by now you know he had composed a lot of melodies that Taylor wrote the words for.
You will be surprised how quickly you guys will be going on your concert trip, heading to see Taylor.
