  • The electronization of health care (eHealth) means the use of information technology (IT), mobile phones, applications or other electronic tools in the provision of traditional health services and in the general care of our health. It takes many forms. These include, for example, storing our health data (such as vaccination records, prescribed medicines or X-rays) as electronic files on disk, cloud or other storage instead of keeping these data on paper and filing them in folders.
The use of these tools in healthcare is not self-sustaining. However, if they are successfully and rationally implemented in the Czech healthcare system, they hold significant potential. Whether it is access to health data, elimination of duplications in care, automation of administrative processes, information sharing, or availability of data for research, development, but also for public health management. All of these involve IT, ethical, legal and regulatory issues that need to be addressed - ideally in collaboration with all stakeholders.
What impact will eHealth have on healthcare financing and how will the Czech Republic be able to draw on the National Recovery Fund? Are we succeeding in setting the legal framework for the electronicisation of healthcare in the context of the European EHDS regulation? How can the state administration cooperate with the expertise of the commercial sector. What hinders the use of existing infrastructure and where are the limits? Are we able to learn from past experiences? And most importantly - can we really digitise healthcare in the Czech Republic for the benefit of its users - i.e. patients and healthcare professionals?
