For me the riff in the middle is one of the best riffs MetallicA ever wrote. It's a riff written by Kirk. And it is actually a left over from his time in Exodus. What a incredible track! Pure agression!
Love this album. The songs. The sound. The feel. Very underrated album.
My only drawback is the sound. Too much mid-range

There isn't... a BAD song on this album... it's not insane but there isn't a BAD SONG.
this album is great as is hardwired to self destruction. got my tix for 4 shows for the 2023 tour. hopefully you go see them again david!!!!
This album was a real return to form for them song wise. It’s too bad the production was so bad. But, they got it right all the way around on the Hardwired album.

As a Metallica FANATIC for the last 28 years, I just have to say something….I for the life of me CANNOT understand why some people love this album so much. It has FOUR good songs, those being Unforgiven III (an absolute masterpiece), The Judas Kiss, My Apocalypse, The Day That Never Comes! I will also give an honorable mention to All Nightmare Long, but the rest of the album SUCKS and that honestly PAINS ME TO SAY because I LOVE METALLICA. They’ve been my favorite band since the first day I heard them when I borrowed my sisters albums (Ride, Master, and Justice) and binged them all back to back to back. I can honestly say WITHOUT HESITATION that DM IS FAR AND AWAY MY LEAST FAVORITE ALBUM OF THEIRS (no I don’t count LuLu). Yes I actually LOVE ST. ANGER. Which brings me to another question I have, why is it that the same people who whine and bitch about the snare drum on St. Anger which is literally only ONE PIECE OF ONE INtSTRUMENT while the rest of the album was perfectly fine, those same people who COMPLETELY OVERLOOK THE TERRIBLE SOUND OF EVERYTHING ON AN ENTIRE ALBUM? Yes St. Anger needed guitar solos but the energy and anger are UNMATCHED especially by DM! As far as I’m concerned Rick Rubin should NOT BE WORKING WITH METALLICA!!

8.9 is okay to me and you know I’m hardcore fan so far!. Metallica came from the darkness into the light after a catastrophic ST ANGER they came out with this and it was a relief, thanks god BOB ROCK ERA ENDED!. RICK RUBIN produced this album and even when it doesn’t sound as clean as hardwired for example it was awesome!. Rick made them feel the 80s in their veins again. Is 23:15 here in florida now!. And in glad I watched this!. Thanks you David another great reaction!. Peace!.
I don't mind the compression, not a fan of the drums though. There are remasteres/remixes out there and some redrummed tracks, sounds a lot better. Album still rips; especially All Nightmare Long and Cyanide.
Quite some thoughts here :
1) Totally agree : Blitzkrieg >>>>> Am I Evil ;)
2) My Apocalypse is my favorite post Load Metallica track. Yes, I do prefer some Load tracks to it.
3) My Apocalypse is the last Metallica track I really enjoyed. Yes, this is my all time favorite band.
4) Production : I agree that the production isn't great at all. This song is the only from Death Magnetic that I don't skip THAT MUCH even given the production. Even if I really enjoy other Death Magnetic tracks, I will skip them quite oftenly because of the production.
5) AJFA production : You're right, I do think the DM production is a lot better than AJFA production. Still, we're talking 2010s vs late 1980s :P And I nearly never skip an AJFA track (not named Harvester of Sorrow :P)

Finally someone talk the truth about the critics related to DM's sound. I also can't understand that because the Album's sound is great and way way better than the sound of first 5 albums especially AJFA
If this album had came out in the 80s people would be saying it was one of there best ever.

After your several reactions of Metallica's songs, I bought "Death Magnetic" album. This is my First Metallica Album. And, this is my first watching, already knowing the song.
I agree with your opinion. Definitely, some parts are too noisy and loud, especially guitar solo, but I think the notorious for the mixing is a little bit exaggerated because of the name of the producer. I enjoyed 7 songs of 10 in this album and I'm going to buy the next album, Hardwired to self destruction.
I bought this album "hoping" it would be better than the previous couple. I was not disappointed. Agree with you on the Blitzkrieg cover. The song on this album I've listened to most is The Judas Kiss...... not sure why, but it just kicks azz, great workout listen.
EDIT: Help a brother out here; what the heck is "compression"? I'm not a professional audio guy and I don't understand what that word means as it relates to albums/audio
Imagine playing in a coffee can and listening the sound bounce back at you.
Then come out of that coffee can and play in the open It's dispersed outward letting the song breathe. You dont have that reverb, that sound bouncing back, that echo, the song being compressed in a small place. That's pretty much what he's saying.

I didn't know fans complained about this album sounding "tinny." I know St. Anger sounded like a low quality MP3 off of Napster, THAT album sounded like it was recorded in a tin can.
This whole album is class, this, all nightmare long, day that never comes, that was just your life, s a r, judas kiss, all legendary songs
gotta remember he is playing guitar really fast while singing and i totally agree his voice is better on hardwired!!!!!!

You should listen to Metallica's new album.
First, love the reaction vids. It's funny, I nailed your scores to the tenth on the last 3 vids of yours I've watched. Great minds and all that, eh? I did want to throw out there that I believe "Blitzkrieg" and "Am I Evil?" were both on the original "Garage Days". I remember running around mid-Michigan back in '89 checking every record store and various Meijer's discounted tape sections looking for the original version of the tape for over a year and all I could find was the version without either. I got it as a gift from my best bud after he eventually sleuthed out a copy. Then they released "Garage Inc." 🤦♂ That being said, it is entirely possible they were also released on the original "Kill 'Em All", I sure as Hell don't know everything.
I'd also love to see a reaction to "The Judas Kiss" off Death Magnetic, I'm truly curious of your reaction.

I couldn’t disagree with you more, David. Justice sounds awesome with very little compression compared to Death Magnetic. I don’t see how you can stand listening to this song with headphones. It’s tiring to my ears, even on your reaction video.
I’ve had Justice on cassette, on CDs before and after being remastered and three vinyl pressings from 1988, 2008 and 2018 and every one of them are much better sounding than Death Magnetic. DM is great and I love the direction they went with it, but it sounds awful. On speakers, it sounds ok, but on headphones it’s almost unlistenable.
Oh well, whatever floats your boat. 😉
Justice is 10x better even with the -17db of the bass guitar (thanks Lars!) DM literally gives me a headache after 3 songs... He needs to hear the original Retail CD versions for the full effect of how bad this sounds, these remasters do not give it justice...sorry for the pun.
@@Defensive_Wounds I know. Even the more recent vinyl pressing of DM I have is hard to listen to with headphones. I hear the guitar hero mix/master of DM has less compression

For me the weakest part of the song is the drumming. Sounds like Lars is trying to keep up with the tempo and has a hard time doing so.
You really don't understand lars style of drumming. It's off tempo for a reason.
I’ll say this, I’m not an “audiophile” or whatever, but I know what sounds good to me and what sounds like trash…..this SOUNDS LIKE STRAIGHT UP S*IT!! AJFA sounds 1000 TIMES BETTER THAN THIS S*IT!! I LOVE Metallica they’ve been my favorite band for almost 30 YEARS, but DM IS THEIR WORST ALBUM BY FAR!! I am one of the 13 people who actually love St. Anger!! I HATED IT FOR SEVERAL YEARS, especially because it didn’t have guitar solos in it and that is still the ONE GRIPE I have with it, but once I gave it a legitimate chance and realized what it is, I LOVED IT!! Once I saw it as 3 guys who were PISSED OFF WITH EVERYTHING INCLUDING EACH OTHER….the way I look at it is, it’s basically an OPEN JOURNAL!! The people who don’t like either never gave it a legit chance or they’ve never been pissed off at the world including their best friends!!
Although I am a Metallica fan this song is boring
