Excellent start to a great story about superman's greatest power hope. John's work has been both hot and cold. But I will follow this arc. Also continued prayers for fortress of solitude
@@warioskapelli3100 If I recall his community post correctly, he went to get a checkup for something bad. It wasn't there but did discover he did need surgery for something else (nothing too serious) and is recovering.
Anyone who doesn’t recognize Major Disaster, read Justice League: Trial by Fire. He doesn’t play the biggest role in it but it tells you enough about the character and is one of my favorite Justice League stories ever written.
I'm happy to see more of Clark's journalism exploits getting explored. Between this & Absolute Superman I'm not sure this was explored much. There was my favorite episode of the Animated Series where Clark is declared dead and has to solve the mystery regarding an innocent man who's going to be executed if he doesn't find the true culprit. I love that episode.
I like these types of issues. The ones where Clark the journalist is searching for the truth and is trying to solve a mystery. Plus the deep cut characters were very cool.
I was surprised how good this first issue was. I'm always hesitant when reading a story by John Ridley. Some of his stories are great where others are not that good. But he really put hope and searching for the truth in the spotlight for this one. Also Major Disaster being back was dope!
Ya know, I only discovered Major Disaster a couple months ago but he always seemed like the kinda character that should have gotten a bigger break. He's a semi reformed thug surrounded by pillars of virtue, like Joel pointed out his costume redesign was simple but striking, he struggles with addiction and he has a visually dynamic power with a very anime twist. Honestly I thought he was gonna keep sitting on the shelf until Tom King needed another obscure character for a mini series so I'm thrilled someone like John Ridley's taking a stab at a story focused on Paul at his lowest
@@TimPoultney Major Disaster first appeared in Green lantern #43 back in the 60s. Major Force is the purple guy that fridged Kyle Rayners GF in the 90s.
You're right this book had more deep cuts than issue of Wolverine 🤣, pre Nu52 Major Disaster died a hero IMO that's why Superman is putting in this extra effort because he knew that version of Major Disaster and he can't believe this version is so different
Oh, Major Disaster is AWESOME.... the guy can create natural disasters, he can control chaos energy for a wide range of effects like predicting the weather, increasing the odds of a particular type of natural disaster, and controlling the intensity of that natural disaster. Major Disaster can generate & manipulate magnetic fields for various effects like force fields, so you can see why when he shows up he's taken as more of a legit threat than some of the other B or C list villains the guy on paper is like 50% Storm & 50% Scarlet Witch.
what i am wondering is how can the ability to cause natural disasters be used for good? like is there more to his powers or does that seems weird for him to try to use that power for good?
He also did a horrible Superman story in Superman: Red, White and blue, where Ridley had Supes tortured and humiliated in a prison camp! And in that story Clark seriously considered killing the general who did those things to him!

Oh shit, something happened to Matt??

For like two weeks I thought he was Major Force and I was really concerned why DC was gonna try to redeem the original "Fridger" himself.

I’ve missed Major Disaster.
John Ridley's awesome. Other Side of DC was gripping
One of my all time favourites

Major Disaster was in the justice league? I thought he was a GL baddie
You might be thinking of Major Force
Disaster joined the JLI or JLX? iirc

He was a member of the Elite first, then they did the Justice League Elite series.
Yes

If Scorch and Major Disaster were once a couple would that make them ... The flames of disaster?

Dunno. Other writers don't know how write him or his powers properly😅
Major disaster? Bendis is back?
John Ridley is a mixed bag of writers. I mean, he sucks at writing. Black Panthers like Tom King sucks at writing Batman
