Riding this MT01 make you feel like your strapped to a wing of a Lancaster bomber, the torque and pulse of this motor puts a smile on your dial every time you ride it, raw motorcycling where you control how much vibration you want,, great machine that touches your soul, and leaves you wanting more, only down side is, mine likes to stop at bakeries lol.

I bought one of these a year ago. I love it. I also have a Buell Ulysses which shades the MT performance-wise due to being a lot lighter. There's no getting away from it. The MT is heavy, but it is so well-balanced, it's not a problem. It's also very economical when you just use the torque and quick-shift between 2,000 and 3,000 rpm. At 3,000 rpm in top gear, you're doing 130 kph/81 mph. On tour I get 60 miles to the Imperial gallon (just over 4.5 litres).
    Thoroughly recommended.

@@1990-t1j That's certainly a great and well designed bike. I guess that at 3000 rpm you have the strong feeling you can ride forever, and that feeling is not far from reality. Huge torque and deep sound in a well handling frame and good brakes (not a Harley LOL), it was my fantasy when Yamaha was selling it new, but I could not afford it. Now they can be bought used at about € 3500-4000 in nice condition and I will get one as soon as I can.

I was a nice bike to ride had one for 4 years, very cool.
biggest week points the small tank, and lack of aftermarket
    in the Canadian market.
    Shame it was discontinued.

If a Yamaha R1 and a Harley had a kid, it would be something like the MT01. Fantastic parents in THIS case would make a fantastic child. I've owned Harleys and sports japanese bikes for the past 35 years : the MT01 I ride since 5 years is the best thing with two wheels I ever had, and by far, period. But then again it's a matter of taste, in this case not EVERYONE's, and thats good.

@Jean-- looking back at this you typed more like a 15 yr old than someone who had rode for over 35 yrs.
Still riding mine after 6 yrs, 42,306 hard miles, 6 sets of tires and breaks, 3 chains, 1 clutch, 1 rear sprocket, 1 top end valve/cam job. Lots of saturday drags at the old airstrip. Provin itself pretty well so far.
First thing people usually ask is "did you stretch that frame to get the V twin on it" ?

This is a great bike, I had the chance to test ride one on Yamaha Riding Days where you get to test ride all their models ... and I can tell you that I got blown away by it, weight is no big issue once you start moving, very well balanced and excellent torque from that Vrod engine, is like riding a Diavel but in a Japanese version ... lol, anyway to cruise around and have a fun ride this is the bike, there are not many on the road so is an exclusive bike, all head will turn towards you, plus you can personalized in any way you want there are several carbon fibre kits and fairings you can install, look at the MT-OS kit it is awesome.

Yamaha USA messed up by not selling this here. I think there was probably a bigger market than they realized.

What the heck. It sure sounds like more of a US bike then EU.
      USA loves big engines..
Most of our cars here in eu are like 2 liters even 1 liter...

I would think the pipes would make the right side very hot, on a 90 degree day. That was an issue, I had with the Buel. Personally, I'm waiting for a real cruiser style, like the Star 1300, with an FZ1 engine. That would be interesting.

    • @1990-t1j
      @1990-t1j 7 ปีที่แล้ว

I have a Buell Ulysses and one of these. I don't find heat on the right side a problem on this, and I live in a hot country.

Nope, pretty much sold in every country except the US, which to me is bonkers and makes zero sense. It was sold in Canada so maybe importing one from the north would be possible.

      Basically
Torque: the strengh of the pull
Horsepower: how long does the engine pull (how far in the RPMs)
This engine is perfect for the road: big torque for sensations, low hp for keeping your license.
