His charisma, intelligence, manipulation and callousness seamlessly. But damn Alan Lee sure as shit filled those big as shoes Tagawa stomped bitches in all these years. That is NOT easy for any actor coming after a legend to do. So many of them fail. As a fan of MK from the very beginning, he fuckin’ nailed it! Mad respect to Alan Lee!

Shang has been a pure evil man all his life. He cares for nobody and has a lust for power that will never be satisfied. Ever after conquering all the realms in his timeline it still wasn't enough.
They're actually more than mk11 despite the 1v1 dialogue. 2v1 dialogue in mk11 was 4 while 1v1 was 8 to 10. So although in short burst, we get more dialogues overall. The dialogue quality is ALOT better in this game too. Mk11 Shang captivated me but mk1 made me worship his deliciously evil charm and he's shamelessly self aware of his depravity while sounding extremely close to 1995 mk movie Shang (despite not being Cary)
This is living proof that every villain in fighting games are truly the heart and soul of the of the game no matter the company although the original fighting game Boss wasn't evil at the very beginning in 1987 but evil villains have certainly made definitive progress and if me fighting games interesting and have kept them alive and well even in woke time such as these and Shang Tsung is no exception to that legendary rule without him Mortal Kombat would fall flat Geese is still number 1 but Shang Tsung is certainly basically no 2 despite the multiverse

I think NRS typically scripts dialogues well in advance of the KP. I remember we found out terminator was coming through leaked dialogues back in MK11

The claws were a reference to Han, the villain of Enter the Dragon, which was a VERY clear inspiration for the original MK game.
So the betrayal was a red herring for his character.
