- Miss America VIII. The brainchild of Garfield Wood and designer Napoleon "Nap" Lisee was built in 1929 to be the fastest boat in the world, and was considered by many to be the very best.
How fantastic. And now to know how the Offy came about. Always steal and learn from the best. The layout has never really conceptually been bested. Dual overhead cam, gear driven, high quality, what more is there today but computers and better materials?
Trying to imagine 1800hp in the 1930s is insane.
Absolutely beautiful boat, those engines are art!! Really would love to hear them roar!!!
Miss American #8. Only race boat with twin 16 cylinders. Several videos on here.
How are they supercharged?....doesn't look supercharged to me
*Pro Tip: if you're featuring a vid about some of the most powerful engines EVER built, you might want to include how fast they could propel a boat.* 🙄
“… Harry Arminius Miller…”
I have to wonder if those Miller engines were sorted out despite having been replaced by the Packards. Miller's engines were beautiful Bugatti-like creations but being one of a kind, hardly practical for even occasional use. Hopefully the concern who ends up with this boat at least displays her for others to enjoy.
shame...this thing was made to run not sit in a room somewhere
History, that survives well into the decades, becomes a thing to be preserved and not tested again. I'd truly love to see this boat run down the river at speed, but I am not the one who owns the vessel.
@@tomshiba51 But who owns it now?
Worthless unless actually used once in a while.
That’s not how this works.
Oh, she is. Make no mistake, Miss America VIII is no museum piece.
