What happens if you delete system32 in Inscryption? (Inscryption PS5)

In the PS5 version of Inscryption during the archivist fight, instead of picking actual files you pick fake files from Luke Carder's PC so I decided to see what happens if you pick system32

Don't worry, the save file is not deleted or anything like that, if you close the game and load it again you'll be back at the waypoint just before the fight begins.
Also I'm not sure what happens if you do this in the PC version of the game, if anyone knows please let me know.

in the pc version it reads your own computer's files but it can't actually delete them bc that'd technically make it a virus, instead if the card dies it makes a text file from po3 that iirc just tells you to delete the file yourself to play by the rules

I think it would've been really cool if Po3 conceded if you put System 32 down, but only on the first or second playthrough, and any attempt afterwards will just make Po3 stop you from ever accessing it as a playable.

In the fight instead of actually deleting them, it adds a new file that tells you to play fair and delete the file yourself.
Due to how that would consider it a virus that would be cause issues. The text says to delete it yourself to play by the rules.
If you do, you get an achievement and PO3 even comments on it.
I'd do this to a simple text file lol.

If I remember correctly, when people were play testing that fight it did actually delete the files. So the game was considered malware by companies because of that, until he updated the game to make a copy of the file and a .txt document telling you to delete it yourself to play fair

I don't think Daniel Mullins ever planned for the files to be deleted by the game. He has a lot of experience in videogames, knows what he's doing, and that messing with other files than the ones of the game gets you thrown out of Steam (For indeed being classified as malware.)

Nothing happens, btw.
The game can see your files but it actually cannot delete them. It just makes a text document and puts it on the destination, with the text saying that po3 wasn't able to delete it and you should follow the rules and delete it yourself instead.

This is on console, where you're given access to Luke Carder's PC instead of your own. Deleting _Luke's_ system32 causes the game to close, but otherwise has no effect.

the reason they dont do that is because its impossible to do it.
The way they did it in the console port is actually pretty cool though as you get to explore Lukes computer, which has some pretty neat lore.

@@MahNamJeff i disagree for me the experience is much inferior and i would say that session of the game is ruined tho. but the rest of the game of course its the same on both versions. the experience of it breaking the 4th wall as if you are luke, and picking you steam friends made the game amazing, not having the file thing really ruined that part.

@@gabrielandy9272 It really didn't. It held the same amount of weight since it was still someone's computer you were sifting through, with consequences to fucking around with it.
And it's still fine. It may not be 100% authentic to the PC experience, but it still improves in some areas to balance out.

​@@gabrielandy9272 It isn't possible to browse the console files so the drive has to be simulated. Regarding friends, the game will still use your friends on PS5/Xbox/Switch for that part, just as the PC version uses your Steam friends.
