    If the matchmaking system in Warzone would prioritize my connection/ping then I would have no problem with SBMM. The reason why SBMM is so frustrating for me personally is that it completely ruins my gameplay experience because of the horrible ping I get. And don't even get me started on the packet burst/loss

    i just wish the lobbies were ping based. Imagine a world where every warzone match is a medley of good, bad and average players. A true, organic sandbox experience. Sometimes you’d come across YY sweats and sometimes you’d come across really wholesome, organic interactions between less serious players. Sometimes you’d end up against a few sweaty squads and have to play really hard to win, and sometimes you’d get nicer, softer lobbies where you realise you can relax, have some fun, maybe use an off meta loadout etc. That’s what BRs are meant to be imo. A big open world, pvp sandbox. But instead, those of us with 2+ KD ratios are forced into playing our asses off just to get 1-2 kills per game. Maybe get the occasional 10 kill game if we’re lucky and really zoned in.

    • @brotatobrosaurus5411
      @brotatobrosaurus5411 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      In practice the distribution would be different - i.e. at least one sweat in every lobby - simply because sweats play more often. If you’ve got a queue of 1200 players, and 120 of them are sweats, should you make 100 lobbies with 1 sweat in each of them? Or should you make 10 lobbies filled with sweats and then 90 lobbies with more average players?
      Why should casuals get matched with casuals, but sweats shouldn’t get matched with sweats?

    • @253MC
      @253MC หลายเดือนก่อน +8

      @@brotatobrosaurus5411 Because "sweats" wouldn't exist to the same extent without SBMM. Look at other sandbox games like Battlefield. Theyve existed for years with no sbmm, and up to 128 players per match at times. Those games are WAY more casual than warzone, because there is no SBMM environment to force people into using "sweaty" tactics to gain an edge.

    • @253MC
      @253MC หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      @@brotatobrosaurus5411 That's not how distribution works. You would get variance. That's why I used the word "organic". On AVERAGE you would get 1 sweat per lobby, but you would also get many games with 2-3 sweats, and many games with 0.

    I agree with your point at 16:30 wholeheartedly. My problem with SBMM is then sole fact that when I'm playing multiplayer, the game puts these kinds of players on my team and places me against players like me, expecting me to carry, and then my team ends up leaving the game because they're not having fun. I wouldn't have a problem at all if everyone in the lobby was the same skill level, but that's just not what happens.

    • @EagleScope
      @EagleScope หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      This. MP SBMM actively gives me no less 2 people that will at minimal double negative every game. Also if you manage to get a killstreak, the good teams leave. But your teammates (bad) will stay and just get slammed. If they leave, it will fill with more bad teammates.
      I've been doing some tests myself and in lower skill lobbies you can get 3-4 chopper gunners in a row and just roll over them without them even shooting at it. Get a chopper in my normal lobby and the whole other team one mags it, or leaves if they die twice to it. There's no point in even using the streaks. In 10v10 on MW3 whenever I would be in a lobby easy enough to get big streaks, you could hear teammate or death comms saying "what is that sound" about a swarm or gunship because they just encounter it.

    I am a 1.2 KD player. SBMM doesn't bother me so much. Getting outplayed is how you learn. What bothers me is how obfuscated the settings can be to find, understand, and apply. But even that isn't a deal breaker. What is... the cheating. Ricochet just isn't getting the job done. How many lobbies have you been in where the level 20 guy is the top guy in the game? You know what I am talking about... when they go 60 and 14 in an MP games or like 28 and 3 in on Rebirth. Maybe there are just thousands of people who have played the game for a week and are just 10x better than the rest of us. Of the 3 other guys I play with... only one has purchased B06. He bought it for the zombies. The rest of us are trying to justify paying hard earned money for something that is plagued with hackers. You can't go back to back games without running into at least one highly suss team. Beat me in a gun fight, cool, I'll get you next time. But that isn't what is happening. There will always be hackers... but there was a time when they were a rarity. Now, they are a game feature. Why pay for that?

    None of us that play the game at a Iridescent+ level would have EVER become even more borderline decent, had as much fun doing so, and gotten that satisfaction of improvement as a player IF we had SBMM back in the day. I used to get destroyed in COD4, so I put in the time to get better and better, over the years developing those "CoD senses" if you will. It felt great and then being in lobbies with lower skill players meant I'd be passing those skills onto them as they realized what I was doing and we ALL IMPROVED together. The newest generations of CoD players...they will never leave the lower tier SBMM lobbies, other than if they get clowned by the system and put onto a higher SBMM team to get mauled due to the way SBMM works in MP and Warzone in non-filled squads (to make the game harder, it'll dump one or two really low SBMM players against the Iri+ other team...to balance the team SBMM scores).
    I feel awful for those newer players. They'll never get to improve. They'll never get that rush that comes with realizing you are getting better. Which means multiplayer gaming isn't a competitive outlet for them, so what's the point ie. they'll just quit and not play as much since it's not something they'll get invested in like we did back in the day. They'll go and play co-op or singleplayer instead. SBMM IS THE REASON CoD's player number tank after one month EVERY SINGLE GAME.

      This. I started MW3 at the age of 10/11, it was pure chaos, I was no where near the skill level of the average player, but the thrill of becoming that guy at the top of the leaderboard stomping on everybody drove me to play more and more and made me the player I am today. Pressure makes diamonds, not throwing all the newbies in a friendly farm where nothing is actually challenging and vice versa. I recently tried 2 boxxing out of curiosity, and being able to actually operate the movement effectively, go on killstreaks etc, then get into the next match against another 2boxxer and carry over that confidence into a much harder fight felt EXACTLY like COD used to feel like. I don't understand why lobbies can't be mixed still. Couple good, couple average, couple that are terrible. I was once part of the terrible, then I started landing mid leaderboards and felt caught up with the average, and eventually levelled myself to a player who could land top leaderboards. Completely agree with your point and unfortunately I don't think we'll experience this again due to profit margins and "the dataaaaa"

Those of us who work all day long, come home from work and want to play for an hour or 2, but just so happen to be skilled players, we are the ones who get the BRUNT of sbmm. Not all of us "high skill" players get to play all day long. Some of us still have jobs and lives and want to enjoy the game, but just because i am decent at the game (3.5KD) means I get punished. There’s actually another FPS game called Combat Master that lets choose which style of play and you go according to said groups that also choose that play style. Then there’s a more simplistic play style mode you can choose and it’ll group you with people who also play that way. No settings needed to change. Just learn and adapt to each play style. I made a new account back in Caldera days, and it seems like you'll get an average lobby for your first game (SBMM quickly assesses your skill after just that one game). This lobby seemed like it was well below average though, and racking up multiple kills in a 3 or even 4 way gunfight was not just doable, but easy.
    I then realized how many Verdansk world records were against people with physical disabilities and such, considering that the Warzone Tracker site showed a big streamer's WR against a 0.3 - 0.4 average KD lobby. Closet cheaters, with actual hacks, don't even stoop this low to be honest. That seems like an absurd statement until you realize first hand what these 2-boxed lobbies are actually like, and to think that at least at one point many reasonably large/popular content creators were putting out their best content in these lobbies.

      My issue with it is how harshly it punishes you for having a single good game. The way the cycle goes for me is as follows: I get stomped in a game, get like a .5 KD against omni movement pros. My next game I'm top of the leader board with a 3.4 KD, then for my next 6 or 7 games I get a .5 KD against movement gods. Then another game where I'm top of the leader board.
      That's simply not fun. I'd much rather it be every other game where I'm getting absolutely dominated. When it happens game after game after game you sorta just shut off your ability to learn from how they play and just rage instead. What I want is a more gradual increase in difficulty. If I have a really good game, I shouldn't be punished for half a dozen games after that. No one's skill increases that much after a single good game where they can compete with people who live and breath call of duty. The way it should work is you have an amazing game and your next one should be a little tougher, maybe instead of playing with .5 kd players you play with 1.0 kd players, if you're holding your own, bump it up to 1.2 kd players, if you're still holding your own then 1.5 kd players, and so on. Instead of a leap from .5 to 2.6 and then holding you at 2.6 until your stats tank enough for you to be put back in the lowest bracket of players where you inevitably dominate and then immediately get put back in with top 1% players again. Its just not fun this way.

SBMM in pubs outside of the bottom of the barrel players should only exist to balance teams when a randomly selected pool of players is chosen. The only other time I could see justifying SBMM is to prevent stacks of pub stompers and cheaters from farming the middle tier players, but even then it shouldn’t be trying to basically pit all 2-4 KD players against each other all the time, especially if running into them happens as seldom as stated

    My question would be if you're a MP/Zombies only player hovering around a .85KD and then you decide to try Warzone out - is the lobby you're put in going to be based on that MP KD or is it going to put you in a lower tier lobby because you haven't played it yet?

    • @bundlesofjoe

      I've tested this, you get put in the sweatiest lobbies known to man. I'm primarily a zombies player, the first MP I played since MW2 was warzone in this game. I stomped in the testing grounds version of warzone you are put into when you first load it up. Went like 12 and 0. Then played 15 games of warzone where I was lucky to get a single kill. In mw2 I hovered between .8 and 1.1 KD and in DMZ I slapped players around wiping out 4 man squads solo regularly. I think the big issue with warzone is the casual players have stopped playing it because of how sweaty the lobbies are so now unless your KD is absolutely trash you get put in with top 5% players every single game.

    I don't quite understand the logic of "SBMM prevents you from improving", people say you improve by facing people who are better than you, but then people turn around and say SBMM makes them face sweats and forces them to try as hard as possible. If you play the same skill level you can definitely improve and do better than those people which will then cause SBMM to put you in even higher skilled lobbies. Wouldn't that help you improve? I am not gonna say its a good system but people have all sorts of conflicting opinions on it, I think the most valid criticisms with the system is the lack of connection priority, and inconsistency of skill level game to game. I agree connection should be prioritized, and I believe if they are going to match you with similar skilled players then it should be consistent.

      So here's a kind of lopsided in a way example of why SBMM (imo) doesn't help you improve, last night my first match on since playing with a buddy of mine with a slightly lower KD who effectively put me in a slightly lower skill lobby boosted my KD so my first match on in 10v10 hardcore moshpit put me against a team with a prestige master level 101 (effectively a no lifer imo considering how short of time the games been out) and that entire team was spawn trapping us and sliding on their butts every gunfight you had with them, now the lopsided part of this is it was domination on nuketown so a smart team that can control B and spawn trap is easy to do the problem is in my case I was 1 of the only people trying to actively push to get out of the spawn trap while my team got spawn killed they ended up getting a choppergunner that spawn killed us so hard I literally died off the bat 3 times in a row I was like 20 kills 30 deaths by the end of it, next match im on HC TDM 6v6 in hideout, I drop 40-16 playing against players that seemed under what my actual KD should be because of how brutally roasted I got the match prior, how is anyone supposed to get better if you get put with top 1% players after a handful of positive KD games playing with a buddy only to get shit on instantly when playing solo then getting players that seem lower skill then me the next game, like to jump between two completely lopsided games is not improving thats being manipulated into thinking I am

    I don't think SBMM should be completely removed, but again, like many people say, your skill takes priority over your connection. SBMM in a lot of shooters is so unbelievably strict that you're ONLY fighting people of your skill level. You're not seeing yourself improve, you're not seeing your gunfights get easier, because as your stats go up, the player experience is the same. The people at the bottom are struggling just as hard to win a gunfight as the people at the top, and it's a glaring issue. SBMM being so strict leads to absolutely no variation in experience. You're giving it all you've got at all times. SBMM should match a larger pool of players in brackets. People of lower KDs and Stats in general(Bottom 1% to bottom 20%) would be put in the same matchmaking bracket, and people of average to above average(top 70% to top 20%), and the top players(Top 30-1%) would be matched together. It'd lead to a larger pool of players to work with, and matches would be far more varied in experience. Players would see if they were improving or getting worse. I don't think SBMM is a bad thing, but in most games it's far too tight on the players it matches with, leading to the sweatier lobbies and hellscape of having to constantly bring your A game.

The SBMM in Fortnite fills the game with bots if you don't perform well. If I get to elite I'm playing against usually an equal percent of people above, below, and at my skill level. I believe the regular matchmaking is very similar but changes more often and uses bots judging by surveys I've received about matchmaking, but it doesn't feel like they ever change it based on feedback.

    I love your video. In reference to Our KD's , not all say for example 1 Kd players are the same thanks to the SBMM. I am a 1.2 Kd player apparently but in reality I am a 0.5 Kd player when I play with very experienced 1.x kd friends in their lobbies . these friends had 1.5-2.5 kd in the original warzone back in the day we could see everyone's stats on 3rd party sites.
    I definitely had more fun with friends when the lobbies had more variety now it is just sweat .

    I love when you directly call out most of the CoD community for the "bot lobby" comments, and it still goes over everyone's head.

    I dont give a rats ass about why it exist. It shouldn't it sucks. Im a 1.5kd player, and when im done with the knife and launchers it'll probably even out ~1.7 I hate so much with a passion skill based match making. I mean hoping into a lobby with my friends it's a diffrent world. Id love to have a single game here and there where i stomp people and have fun that way. I miss random lobbies where sometimes the guys were just better and sometimes worse.

    These are the type of lobbies all streamers get into and then their fanbase be saying "stop hating and get good". How can you not hate on a streamer who is flexing on such lobbies? Who enjoy getting into 0.2 lobbies like Nadia and then calling themselves a big shot. There is a difference in admitting that you are 2boxing and being transparent about your gameplay The fanboys are the worst of them all. They go into the comment section to defend their beloved streamer and start harrassing people. They demand that you should get better but they themselves are bad, otherwise they'd know who is actually in a normal lobby.

    The worst thing SBMM took from us is making new friends. All the chill, cool, funny people are usually some of the worst players, but also some of the most fun players to play with.
    Just turn down the goddamn SBMM whatever SBMM blackout had we need that

    I average a 1.3 kd across the different warzones over the years. My friends with .7-.8 kds always complain about playing with me because we never win - the lobbies are too hard. When they play on their own they get wins.

    I play games for 30 years, skipped I think only 3 cods since 2003, almost done with dark matter grind rn. Warzone feels incredibly intimidating, cant even attempt to play it. Still looks rly cool tho, i kin that guy driving car around with you so much, that would be me if the lobbies allowed

    Hey there Tactical! I know you might never read this bit here it goes!
    The connections on area 99 are way worse that the connetion on rebirth. I invite you to test this out. 5 games in one and 5 onnthe other.
    I will be re posting this until you read it...
    Cheers brother!!!

    I don't think anybody disagrees that there should be a protective bracket for players like this. But when you reach players with a KD that is average (0.8 like you said) then that's where players should be thrown into the general player pool with no EOMM active.

    2:29 No they are not, try having a 5kd. It's not a way to switch of and relax when every lobby is CDL Try Outs
    Video Games used to be video games, until we started protecting and catering to certain threshold of players, rather it being a normal way of video games where it's kill or be killed.
    Disbaled people or gamers who want to be protected is one thing, but everyone else should be free to play anyone to make it actually random and like it was once upon a time.
    Im am forced to play solo because my friends won't play with me due to the lobbies i get and their skill level can't handle CDL lobbies. So no, im not having fun at all and it's not a relaxing experience when i can sit back and relax with a different variety of guns.

    I absolutely hate sbmm. I haven’t been able to get a nuke since the original mw3 released in 2011 which that game didn’t have sbmm. They based their matchmaking system on latency and connection quality. That’s how it should be.

    I'm an average player just looking for more variance in the lobbies, and for it not to feel like a cycle :do well -> next game against sweats, do badly -> next game against bots. It's predictable, yields no funny interactions, gets quite repetitive quickly and bores the heck out of me.
    I find it quite ironic that you have to tank your stats to get into lobbies that are actually fun.
    I am surprised as to how people can still defend such system when ranked play exists.

    I have that when a xbox friend goes on my pc and switches from mouse to controller. I noticed that the lobby's are weird? like 5 people getting headshotted while they where walking right behind each other! And characters from the enemy team standing weird places. Idk man. It feels so off. This year.

    These people, like in this example 7:40, create what we call in Germany a “nephew account.” They use a second account, play very poorly on it and then queue together with that account to get easier lobbies. There are even some providers who rent out such accounts. They do exactly what’s shown in the video and then rent them out.

    The manipulation of engagement based match making is my issue, win a game or two in a row and it’s a miserable sweatfest where my ping and connection are not properly weighted, it also be nice to know the average KD of my lobby without a 3rd party app!

    I don’t mind SBMM at all. The problem I have is blatant cheating. Where the cheats don’t match the player overall skill and game IQ

      The cheating and the team balancing part of sbmm in multiplayer drives me crazy full team of ppl my level on the other team and then it’s me and 4 complete bots and one other half decent guy if I’m lucky but probably just me and 5 bots it’s Annoying

    I really don’t get it. Right now i have a kd of 3.4, but last season and before the bo6 integration my kd was 1.2 and i was only running in to sweaty players. The lobbies i now run in to have good players, but a lot less than before.

    the only thing about SBMM is how strict it is I have no problems with it but it needs to be looser there's no variety in matches when I think there should be.

  • @AidenLe6873

    the main problem with sbmm for me is less of running into ppl with my same skill level but rather I’m the only one in the lobby with 90ms+ ping while everyone else is below 20ms, not to mention packet burst and server extrapolation that I have to deal with. I have a 2gbps fiber hard wired, why do I have to sacrifice my connection because I did good in a game? this system makes no sense, I’d rather have no internet than deal with a laggy/bad connection one
