    I'm going to sound like a massive dork but I love SUDS. We have so many issues with water runoff due to hard surfaces which then overwhelms our drainage. To have water soak through these surfaces rapidly and straight back into the ground is a huge advantage, especially on porous ashphalt where the water can't linger in cracks to then do the old freeze-thaw trick and create pot holes.

    • @MrandMrsDIY
      @MrandMrsDIY  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      There's many great benefits you get from SureSets Resin surfaces, one being the water rapidly draining though the surface into the ground.

      What about if it’s a lot of water?
      We have 4 cars on our driveway which are washed every week, sometimes I do the neighbours cars too so that’s way more water than your average house would use, plus all the chemicals I’m using!
      If the chems don’t attack the resin over time then surely all that water I’ll be using will have an effect on the ground underneath?

    • @Dontbesilly83
      @Dontbesilly83 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Mate if the process for the SUDS is done correctly, I.e 150-200mm of clean stone, then a layer of type one then open textured tarmac, not just type 1 as shown in this video the surface will take large volumes of water.

    I've been looking into doing my own patio and path in my garden. I've called a number of companies for advice. They all told me that the resin has to put on either tarmac of concrete as after time, if you put resin onto of a type 1 base the rain will wash away the smaller dust particles and cause problems like cracking over time.

    • @MrandMrsDIY
      @MrandMrsDIY  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Depends how it's installed! With a sureset installer you get a 21 year guarantee of a successful installation! It doesn't really make much of a difference whether it be on type 1, mot or concrete, if it's perfectly compressed, cured or hardened it should be more than fine to lay onto!

      Hi mate, yes sureset do driveways but not sure about if they do them in overseas in Canada! For extreme temperatures such as that you may have to speak with a member of the team for advice for what to do, as you can have it in any temperature, but for laying it, it can't be below a certain temperature as it wouldn't be able to fully bond and cure together, particularly to the sub base.
      here is their website for more advice www.sureset.co.uk/resin-bound-driveways/

    Neat job that. I wonder how theyd deal with broken tarmac, Im guessing that would have to come up to the level of the sub-base, then tamped down well (and any broadband fibre laid in 🤔😉 etc) before adding the resin and aggregate 🤔🤔
    Also am I right in thinking that it becomes its own soakaway🤔 If its that efficient that would be a real boon where I live, even though the driveway has a gentle slope😊

    • @MrandMrsDIY
      @MrandMrsDIY  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks mate! Yes the full level would have to have been prepared well beforehand, any cracking on the base would either have to be scratched out and lifted off, or repaired and left to fully cure!
      Yes, as you can see from the water test video we did, an entire bucket that pretty much went straight through to the earth in literally 6 seconds!

    Thanks for sharing! I have a paved driveway in two stepped areas. If I remove all paving and level the ground, add mot type 1(compacted), can I have resin bound layed directly over the surface? Just to confirm in case I missed something. Thanks.

    • @MrandMrsDIY
      @MrandMrsDIY  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thanks for your question, normally a driveway would require more than just hardcore MOT below the resin to assure its strength, for driveways the resin is often laid onto old Tarmac or concrete which adds to the strength, if the block paving is very firm and the MOT below is a goos depth then you maybe able to lay direct;y over the blocks with reinforced mesh beneath it.
      I'd certainly recommend contacting Suresets Tech team who would be able to advise the best way forward, visit there website www.Sureset.co.uk

    A neighbour had a Resin bonded driveway installed. After a few years the driveway needed a clean because of moss & dirt collecting between the grit particles. The following year the dirt & moss returned with the addition of small weeds growing, maybe in fissures or cracks created during the jet wash.
    What do you think went wrong?

    • @MrandMrsDIY
      @MrandMrsDIY  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You still do need to maintain it, especially it its by any brush or underneath any trees by brushing it off or getting the old leaf blower on it to get rid of any sitting foliage, and as for the weeds growing through, it definately seems like the sub base wasn't prepared correctly, as if you've got weeds going through then the sub base should be compact and absolutely rock solid!

    Having laid hundreds of Resin driveways and patios, paths ect, ALL to the manufacturers specifications I can assure you that is not going to last going straight over Type 1.. I’ve laid resin over 5ins of concrete with steel rebar and had issues.. also knowing lots of people in the industry I’ve never heard of anyone going straight over Type 1.. just look at all the big suppliers not one recommends Type 1 as a suitable base. Sub base yes, then 20mm open Tarmac at 50mm or a 4in concrete pad on top, then the resin at 18mm.. this is going to look like a BMX track very soon..

      Hi, not too sure, there may be a local merchant selling them, or you could contact Sureset directly for a quote/information. Thanks www.sureset.co.uk

    These guys have 30-40 years experience between them, then proceed to lay straight on to hardcore no concrete or tarmac

      you can lay onto hardcore if it has been sufficiently been tampered down enough, such as what we've done!

      Its not required on a pathway thats being walked on, if you was driving over it, them you would require a stronger base

    Thats going to fail big time, waters got no where to go! It will sit in that resin expanding and contracting with the frost, it wont go through the motvtype 1 or the concrete. That paths had it in 2-3 years.

      Been down just over a year now and it's still perfectly fine! Sureset have a 21 year guarantee when installing resin bound paving and driveways! Hardly likely to fail if prepared correctly, cheers!

    An 'A-Z guide' which doesn't answer any questions about the resin bound system? Surelt this is a 'part of a guide' not a whole guide. An A-Z guide wouldnt have 'ask the suppliers' as an answer 😮

      Sorry you think this, do you have a question that we haven't covered

      @@MrandMrsDIY no specifically but there's lots of questions in these comments eg can it be out onto type 1? And your answer is 'check with the manufacturer'.......how can this be a full guide if basic questions and answers aren't covered? What about the cost? What about the max and mine depth range? Like I wrote above, this isn't a full guide. More like an advert

    That resin won't last more than 2 years absolute cowboy job
    Need tarmac or concrete underneath to make it any good

      The manufacturers state you can lay it over MOT type 2, it also comes with a 21 year guarantee. thanks pal
