- Let's talk about the new Anime Opening and Episode 1089! I mostly talk about manga on this channel, so I do talk about the opening and episode by comparing it to the manga, so if there's any Anime only people clicking on this video - Spoilers beware!

This opening and the previous one was directed by Megumi Ishitani who was behind episode 957,982 and 1015. Her and the amazing Soty or Masami Mori storyboarded this and animated it. Yes, the anime staff knows more and they put in hints for manga readers too. They did it with Over the top & Dreaming On! They teased Kanjuro and Denjiro.
Yup, and Oda has told some the actual ending of One Piece which is pretty crazy😳

Tbf, the previous opening was absolutely horrible, it was the worst in One Piece. But this one is honestly the best.

Chopper's cuteness in the anime is really bolstered by the performance of his VA, the legendary Ikue Otani, who also does the voice of Pikachu. The woman has conveying adorableness down to a science.

That wasn’t Kaku, that was S-Hawk against Zoro. Also the way Morgans breaks the fourth wall and winks at us felt like he was talking to us manga readers like “shhhh… not yet y’all”

"At first I thought the song didn't really match the tone" this reminds me of the Impel Down opening. It's this super upbeat happy-go-lucky song contrasted by the dark scenery of Impel Down and eventually Ace being marched out.

9:40 the short answer is yes, they know what is going to happen. There is also an added part to that: In Japan spoiler culture is much more easygoing, the anime is seen as something to watch after the manga and they expect people to be up to date on the manga.

About the Vivi paw paw thing in the opening, in the opening "Over the Top" they showed Kyoshiro in Denjiro's spot of the scabbards before the manga revealed he was Denjiro
Actually since it's a popular theory among fans that Vivi is going to get the Paw-Paw Fruit, maybe the animators just wanted to include which might be another red herring just like shaka's red herring. (I'm pretty sure the animators probably don't know what's gonna happen just like us.)
I like that theory too but if you actually go frame by frame, Vivi is never in front of Kuma’s bubble, she’s in front of the hole Wapol made(you can see bite marks around the edges) and then it switches to Boney about to touch the bubble.
Actually, the anime directors do know what's gonna happen ahead of time, within reason ofc. (We know for a fact that the anime director knows the ending at the very least)
This also wouldn't be the first time that a One Piece opening has spoiled manga readers by giving overt hints towards things the fandom had already been theorizing. (iirc. Denjiro's indentity was spoiled for both anime/manga readers by one of the anime OP's before the official reveal actually happened)
@@yonkocommander5531 Yes…. That's still symbolism and foreshadowing/referencing Vivi getting the Nikyu Nikyu no Mi, the animators wouldn't have made that scene the particular way they did if they weren't trying to imply or hint towards something.

@@MugenHeadNinja I honestly think people are reading way too much into it. There is basically nothing to indicate Vivi would get this devil fruit, people just don't seem to be able to understand what that shot is showing.
One thing I really love about the opening is how it goes from kizaru looking like he's falling to Kuma rising as he breaks free to s-shark skinking to Bonney breaking free of the water. How the people connected to Nika are breaking free while the others arint
Since Wano Kuni, probably due to time constraints on Oda's part, the manga has been lighter in detail than the anime. We're regularly seeing a lot more exposition and nuance, even in minor scenes in the Anime, far beyond what we've seen in the past.
The Lulusia scene in this episode was a good example of really giving the smaller details a lot more screen time

I love that you enjoyed this episode so much! It really was an incredible way to start the new arc.
The anime as a whole, while good, does have its flaws, particularly in pacing and drop in production value at "low" points (aka not peak/hype/"important") in the story.
That said, the anime DOES do some things incredibly well. The voice acting is top tier and amazing. The music/OST is one of the best and most iconic you'll find in an anime series. The care and attention they put into those important scenes often times elevates the anime to be on par with if not exceeding the manga in places. And there's something to be said about how seeing and hearing some of your favorite characters being brought to life through animation is just incredible.
So yeah, I think for now I'd just suggest watching parts of the anime as a sort of companion piece to the manga for certain key moments. I'm sure there are plenty of your viewers who would be happy to point out which episodes are a "must watch" in the series thus far.
Also, they've announced that they'll be remaking One Piece from the beginning (which first aired 25 years ago, so ... yeah, it could use an update), this time being produced by WIT Studio, who did Attack on Titan, Spy x Family, Ancient Magus Bride, and Vinland Saga. And, without the threat of catching up to the source material, it will probably not have nearly the pacing issues that the Toei anime has to deal with. So, maybe hop on that one when it comes out.

You don't have to watch the anime EVERY week, but be sure to catch EACH AND EVERY SINGLE action heavy episode. Those are absolutely beautiful, and with regular animation looking so good, I expect it to look better than ever. Also, the crew hanging out are the best moments of the series, hands down.

Related to the question of what the anime staff knows, during an interview for Film Red, the director (Gorō Taniguchi) was asked what he thinks the One Piece is. He responded he's known what it is for 24 years! This is because he also worked in the first ever One Piece anime adaptation, an OVA from 1998.
the clip of Lulusia Kingdom getting destroyed got recommended to me on TH-cam... and god damn, I might start watching the anime for this arc if that is the quality we're going to get.

Chopper can also make himself bigger and heavier, he didn't need to stay in chibi form. They both easily could have helped
I really love the effort and thought they put onto this opening, Megumi Ishitani's direction is immaculate. From the colours to just direction to how it would play out in a way that watchers would not get spoiled at the same time give them a genuine wonder on How and Why those things are in the opening.
Oda probably gave them extra info about the arc to properly lay out the opening and litter it up with soo much mystery and I'm absolutely loving it. She did that one legendary epsiode on Wano and the Queen Funk dance, You can see the passion and her love for the series in her directorial works on One Piece.
I love love love them emphasizing the people... back in Enies Lobby, when referring to the buster call, Robin said something to the effect of "you people just look at a map; but you can't see people on a map!" And then we cut from the people to Imu just crossing out the island on a map. So terrible and perfect!!!
I’m glad you called them Easter eggs cause honestly they’re only spoilers if you know the context of a lot of it. So people saying “it’s full of spoilers!!!!” Like dog it’s colorful and moving fast, brain go brrrr when colorful and moving fast.
I've been watching the Anime since I've been a kid and in those approximately 20 years I have never seen an episode like this. The part with Lulusia was so great, had me wondering if I was really watching One Piece haha

Really appreciate the effort they put into kicking off the egghead arc. It reminds me of how hard the first ep of the Wano arc went too - it was transformative relative to itself. One piece just keeps one upping itself. 😊

One of my favorite details that was shown in the opener is hard to catch unless you're going through the frames. There's a few symbols that hint towards the God valley incident.

I think the Vivi part was her going through the opening running after Wapol. US! is one of the best openings ever. Hiroshi Kitadani’s are my favorites, but then there’s “We fight together”. If you’ve not seen all of them, you really should see them. My favorite non-kitadani ones are probably between sabaody to post-marineford. All of those are just amazing. I love the other ones too, but My favorites are all of those and the Kitadani ones. We Are, We Go, Over the Top, and Us!

The thing with Vivi and the Kuma bubble at the end. If you do some pausing in that part, the Kuma bubble doesn't actually pop in until the same frame that Bonney pops in. So I doubt Vivi will have any connection with Kuma here. It goes by pretty quick, so it feels like the Kuma bubble was there with Vivi.
I can't expla8n to you how much i ADORE the frame with Morgan's expression covering those two dorks, and looking at the camera directly with the "shhhh" expression it looks SO COOL

Usopp ran before the others even knew what was going on. It shows in my opinion his superior albeit unconscious use of observation haki.

If you want to check out more of the anime but dont have it in you to start watching entire stretches of episodes, i highly recommend the movie baron omatsuri and the secret island. It's non canon so everything will be new to you as a manga reader. Its full of great crew interactions and is fantastically written in a way that is both typically one piece while also taking the characters and world to places which, tonally, oda has rarely explored. Its also directed by one of the truly great living anime directors (mamoru hosoda) and has an extremely unique artstyle with exceptional animation quality.
Now you can see what people mean by the anime fills in the gaps of the manga and fulfills the whole story

I loved the opening. The song was a banger, the animation is incredibly fluent, & the art style is perfect for the Egghead arc. It feels like a good blend between Bauhaus art & online games from the 2000s like Gaia Online or Club Penguin
Toei often consults Oda about basic stuff like color scheme or "what kind of voice should this silhouette character have". But sometimes Oda also goes and tells them things or puts spoilers in anime material, like Shanks' family in film RED. I also heard he offered to spoil the anime team of RED about the final saga and later developments but they all declined, lol.
It's really interesting to see a manga only reader seeing the latest one piece opening and episode discuss it without understanding just WHY so many people love it off the bat due to its return to fun and jovial one piece times in addition to being an opening with THE guy. How she said this opening doesn't fit the theme of egghead, I understand what you're saying but it's such a misdirection plus the start of egghead being fun and jovial as well. Regardless, she then understood why it's amazing and not just because of the actual song or legacy

In regards to openings spoiling the manga, I believe when Over the Top first came out it was before Denjiro's identity was revealed and the opening placed Kyoshiro alongside all of the other scabbarda

Actually One Piece Opening 23, "Over the Top" spoiled some things for manga readers with Luffy "using his guts" to tank a Kaido blast breath while in Gear 4th, as he did on the rooftop fight with Law and Kid up there. That had not happened yet in the manga. So I believe Oda actually does tell spoilers to the Toei staff. You can speculate on openings with this info.
Merphy had the same experience Oda had with Chopper's VA, Oda said he made Chopper cutter over time because of Ikue Otani's voice acting.

So much about this opening is blends so well. Visually and musically it really does stand out as a great new adventure, but lyrically it also elevates it. I would HIGHLY recommend searching up translated lyrics. They do a great job at capturing further the themes of the arc such as how powerful people's dreams are, like Vegapunk but also funny enough there is an emphasis on revival of dead dreams. It really felt like the speech Buggy made to his crew to motivate their passions and it just hit me in a different way. I could just be way too invested in seeing Buggy become the Pirate King but regardless the lyrics are incredible.
As for your question about the spoilers with the Pawpaw Bubble, it's very much like Movies Trailers. Anime openings are big talking points, so packing everything that would intrigue lovers of the source material as well as those who are passing by. This isn't a specific thing to One Piece, most Anime Adaptations with the biggest series are made to be moreso celebrations of the source material and usually made for the fans rather than they are standalone ways to experience the story. While they do expect people to jump in who don't read the source material, they would rather pack as much Wow factor they can basically.

So there is a pretty solid chance they already know atleast the general idea of egg head ends.

There are instances where mangaka give notes to hint at future events, attack on Titan did it a couple of times
They typically keep it vague, since anime peeps don't have any context, and manga readers only know so much
But it's not like it's every opening , just something that happens once in a while
The lulusia scene is more evidence that sometimes, making a scene longer, makes the scene better

10:33 The Vivi transition thing is something I see a lot of people get wrong, So to clarify: The scene first starts showing Vivi, yes. But it's in the manga scene (that will come later) where she escapes with Wapol. (why it's shown after her and Morgans hiding her.) And she is going into the HOLE in the wall made by Wapol running through it.
Then it seamlessly Transitions into a COMPLETELY different scene at a different point, Showing Bonney enter Kuma's memory bubble. These two things happen at different times. In different places. It's just a nice transition to group this arc's two "princesses in distress that may or may not need saving", As they both sort of fit the role. Beautifully done, in my opinion. But seems it confused many.
And as a bonus, If you pause at the right time during the Sabo scene, You can see Imu's attack, Saint Saturn transformed AND gear 5 Nika. The Easter eggs on this one are WILD with the spoilers. It's incredible.
But I don't think this means Vivi is getting Kuma's devil fruit. I think it's a coincidence and people are reaching a bit too much, to match their theories. Even if it ends up right, I don't think that was the intention in the opening, at least, at all.
We'll find out if you're right in about 4 or 5 years from now 😂
wdym people 'get it wrong'? It's a theory because choosing to interpret the transition as a subtle hint towards future events is just as valid as your theory that it's not gonna happen. There is nothing for you to 'clarify' since you know just as little as everyone else lmao
I didn't notice the hole myself, but I felt the same way. It seemed stylistic. But if it truly is a teaser for what's to come, I'm glad it was done so expertly.

(and not knowing it's 2 different scenes) Which leads to them saying Vivi will get the fruit. I do agree with you that it's a valid theory though, I just know that not everyone goes frame by frame and pauses a lot, Making the small detail easy to miss. By all means, You can theorize ahead all you want, I think any theory can be valid to some extent with enough reasoning.
And about how much I know, I'm fully caught up to Chapter 1103 as of writing this. I can't say the same for everyone, that's all. (Also stuff like reading every SBS, Chapter, and watching every anime episode, Including ALL filler.)

Toei studios has been raising the bar on animation quality since whole cake. This being “just the beginning “ of this amazing arc makes me think every episode is going to outdo the previous one. One piece anime is must watch now.
For your question on if Toei knows spoilers, yes. In one of the openings they spoiled the reveal Kyoshiro being Denjiro in a shot where they show all the scabbards before it was revealed in the manga. Although for this opening specifically I don’t think it’s foreshadowing anything. Vivi is reaching towards the hole in the wall Wapol made, not Kuma’s memory bubble.
in the opening 22 (i think) Over the Top, there's a moment where they are showing all the red scabbards and they show Denjiro, at the time that opening released we didn't knew who was the ninth yet, also, in a recent OP there's a reference to the Kid/Law attack on Big Mom waaaay before they actually did it on the manga, so yeah, they sometimes spoil the manga, that said, i really hope Vivi eats the paw-paw, but it could be Lily as well
Zoro not cutting Bonney is a sign of his growth as a swordsman. In his flashback during his fight in Alabasta his master tells him how a master swordsman only cuts what they want.

The ending was nostalgic for me since i watched one piece since 4kids aired it. The new ending has a nostalgic feel to it since it mirrors the first one.
Very funny how Merphy barely can hold the excitement. Sign of love for the story.

it's not COMMON for anime to be more informed than manga readers, but it HAS happened specifically for one piece before, one of the wano openings had a slideshow of all of the scabbards in like shots of 2 or 3 people each and randomly denjiro (who we only knew as kyoshiro at the time) was included in one of them and that was a decent amount of time before the manga reveal, so that quick flash of vivi COULD be a potential hint that the animators were told about early, or it could just as easily just be a random inclusion, maybe a nod to the popular fan theory
Yup, the anime creators know more about the story than the readers. The first Wano opening pretty much spoiled that Kyoshiro is Denjiro despite it not being revealed in the manga yet.
I think the symbolism with Vivi is that she will learn something important about her past, related to the 'D' in her family, just as Bonney is going to learn something about her past from the Kuma's bubble
If you want more crew interactions and the Strawhats just goofing around, the anime fills that niche. Look at something like episode 384; Which is all Brook getting acquainted with the crew in some downtime after he joins. All anime original content. "Filler" has its positives.
Vivi didn't turn into Bonney in that sequence of the intro. It's just showing how these two characters tapped into something very core to their store and about their fathers. Vivi was looking through the hole in the wall, spying on her father's conversation with the Gorosei, and Bonney looking into her father's memories. The hole in the wall and the palm bubble being briefly shown for both of them, respectfully. So, not necessarily an indication that Vivi will inherit the palm-palm fruit.
It's only recently that I'm made aware of the Vivi x Nikyu Nikyu fruit because why, where and when did people come up with that? Seeing Vivi all over the opening made sense for me because of how big she and her dad influenced the first chunk of the arc so I took it as an artistic choice and nothing more.

ah I know like very little about this but it's something to do with numbers in Japanese? The gum gum fruit corresponds to 56 I think. All the members in the strawhats that have devil fruits have a corresponding number too plus the sunny i think. The theory is that all the numbers added together are supposed to add up to a certain number LMAO IM SORRY I DONT REMEMBER but all i remember is that there is a number missing to get to that point and the nikyu nikyu fruit is a candidate. However Kuma is the one with that fruit. I don't remember how people linked Vivi to it though, maybe since she was a previous member of the strawhats? Anyways I vaguely remember watching a video from Randy Troy about this so I think I should've just recommended that from the start lol.
It's linked to Vivi because there's a popular theory that queen Nefertari Lili was the previous owner of thr nikyu nikyu fruit which was what she used to scatter all the poneglyphs across the world.

The openings since late Whole Cake/early Wano have had little hints in them for people who have read the manga so yes it seems Oda is giving Toei advanced information.

Yeah, Oda does give Toei some early knowledge. That's how they knew to give Zoro a Conquerors moment in Wano way before Kaido revealed that his 9-sword style was a manifestion of conquerers

For the past couple of arcs, the people in charge of making the anime do have inside knowledge from Oda. There have even been a couple of times where the openings spoil manga readers, like with Denjiro being Kyoshiro

What an incredible episode, it looked so amazing I almost couldn't believe that I was watching One Piece. Unfortunately there isn't much of the show that is adapted half this well, the anime doesn't exactly elevate the material.

In terms of the anime knowing more than the readers at the time has been a common occurrence, so they can better plan and animate their openings and episodes. However, this led to an infamous moment when the ANIME spoiled the MANGA. Yes, you read that correctly.
Back during the first Wano opening over the top, there was a sequence of stills that when put together showed all the 9 Red Scabbards. The problem is that this included Kyoshiro approximately a good year before he was revealed to he Denjiro in hiding in the flashback. IN THE MANGA.

I wanted to recommend the opening for you but wasn't sure since you're a manga person but I'm glad you watched the entire thing it was a good episode i hope the quality stays the same and that you watch egghead with us, it also helps enrich the manga and helps remember details the anime has more leeway oda can't fit everything in a chapter so some of his ideas get chopped the anime helps a little with that

I always thought the anime was an excelent companion for the manga. Since its a series that heavily takes from rubber hose animation, it really is something else when animated versus a static manga.

Yes, Oda does give the anime team specific information. Such as coloration, specific words ands sentences that must be kept, etc. However, it's hard to know how much information he gives the anime team: my personal opinion is that they made Vivi run towards a hole in a wall (just how there was a hole in the wall when Wapol came to accidentally save her. from CP0)
I highly doubt he would give something so huge away like "btw NIKYU NIKYU no mi = vivi. confiremed. Make it show in the opening." like... it just makes no sense. I think this is a strange but funny coincidence though.
