looked like Cooper was doing the gold dance there for a second :) loved the look around the bombing range very neat video Paul thanks for taking us along for the fun HH!
Did you walk along the top bank, so you where directly in front on the wrecks and walk straight out|?? I use a DJI Phanton Vision2 HD quadcopter and I reckon filming the wrecks would look amazing!
Tony J yes I did exactly that! walked out until in live with the bow of the ship and then walked directly out as there's less gannels to cross. using a quadcopter would be a great idea, I've got a DJI F450 quadcopter that I attach my gopro to and have had the same idea of flying over the targets to see parts no one would ever see, also to fly in high from a distance as if you were going for a bombing drop. I''m in Lincoln, where do you fly?
WOW excellent! apart from loosing a F1-11. looking down on an aircraft from the tower must've been incredible! I once watched the ordnance team go out to a UXB flash and smoke (probably a 25lber) then a few minutes later a nice flash and bang as it went up, also remember watching an F15 drop what I'm sure was a 25lber while viewing through binoculars, it bounced back in the air with a bent tail fin looking like a boomerang, such a shame they closed the range, could read stuff like this for hours
Thanks Michael, there'll be another video at the same place in the next few weeks as there's a couple more ships I need to visit. thanks for watching and commenting Paul
Really made me laugh watching Cooper doing his dance!! lol They say dogs take after their masters :) Was really interesting, I have never seen anything like that. Thanks for the tour~ HH
It was a very eventful 2 years, we closed the living accommodation, we lost an F1-11, we had twitchers from all over the place descend to watch an owl etc etc. My favourite bit though was the low level fly by's, the boss hated them so the aircraft would ask for a doors check and if the boss was away we'd give them clearance. Always fun to look down on the aircraft from the tower balcony!!! :) My son still lives in Wainfleet so do visit a fair bit.
you would need to satnav it to 'sea lane, Wainfleet' just drive down sea lane and you'll drive past the old control tower (you can't miss it) then past there until you can't drive any further. the two wrecks ( old targets) are way out, you need to walk along the grass bank until you are inline with the bow of the ships (1mile) and then walk in straight line til you reach them (1/2 mile) you need wellies and expect LOTS of mud. check tide times else you'll get cut off, 7yr old wud struggle...
IMPORTANT: check tide times, make sure it's low tide, expect deep gullies to cross (YOU WILL GET MUDDY) take maximum safety precautions and watch out for quick sand, DO NOT EVER go on the ships as they are falling to pieces, quick sand surrounds the ships so DO NOT go too close, DO NOT pickup any ordinance incase it's still live. you will cross a saltmarsh, compacted mud, softmud and then sand...it's hardwork and exhausting so be prepared! wellies are a must. and it's a long walk, enjoy LOL
Looks an interesting and fun place to walk the dog, well Cooper was loving it lol By the way it looks like Deep Digger Dan has been digging up that APC?
Mud mud then quick sand or quick mud i got stuck my mates had pull me out ha. Also lots of crabs down there. Really enjoyed my teen years down there. Do you live near the bombing range
Can anyone help, years ago I was told by my grandfather, that somewhere near Wainfleet bombing range there was a wreck of a Lancaster bomber. Maybe now it's sunk. Any info would be appreciated
+Tim Guttesen Hi Tim, if it's there it'll be sunk by now, back in the 80's a JCB got stuck in quicksand and is still out there buried. I've been out on the range many times and never seen anything resembling a Lanc hope this helps Paul
+Tim Guttesen my pleasure Tim, if you have a interest in aviation please checkout my other videos, I filmed what I consider my best at RAF Donna nook of a chinook straffing targets with it's minigun plus tons of others at RAF Coningsby and plan to film more throughout the year so please subscrive thanks
My Dad was stationed there 1943-5. He said that several aircraft came down on the marsh and further down towards Boston. There was a Lancaster that crash landed on the marsh/range having being shot up on raid. The lads at RAF Wainfleet + the coastguard (a bloke called Harry Wharf) couldn't get to them dues to the tides and they were lost.
Hi there was a couple of Mosquitos that crashed on the range ,when my dad was stationed there in the 70s they had 2 of the engines removed which ended up in a museum, never heard of my Lancaster crashing there
jamie lee gretton definitely NOT! you'd get about 10 yards in an hour as there'd be so much to dig, you might dig up an unexploded WWII bomb or mortar. there is sooooo much metal on this beach from 70+ years of using it as a weapons range and you'd never find any coins either just bombs etc.
Ok thank you. I live in wainfleet ya see only 22 so don't know much about it but yeah think it's best I don't lol. Cheers. Am always watching ya vidoes too btw 😆👍
jamie lee gretton thanks for watching my videos. :) If you've never been for a walk on the range do so with care as there is quicksand in places, also be very careful what you pick up as there is still ordinance from WWII and because they didn't keep records there could be some objects with high explosives, also it's probably best never to walk on any of the ships as they are falling apart. the ships to the right (south) you also need to be aware of because one is sunk and there are holes in it's deck which can easily fall through or get your leg trapped (I nearly did last time there) and lastly keep a close eye on the tides, last time I was there it came in really quickly and almost cut me off. other than being safe out there it's a nice walk on the beach Jamie.
it's RAF wainfleet, you'd need wellies and expect a lot of hard walking as it's a tough going in places. Will take you and john one weekend if you're over this way cya in a couple of weeks x
I use live down sea lane there. Was great to see the planes bombing and i use walk al round there.shame its closed now. Great dog he looks fun. Great vid as well
You lucky thing! it's a very strange place to walk on...mud....mud....more mud....then sand. I used to repair the computers for Batemans brewery and remember listening to the A10's straffing....fantastic!
looked like Cooper was doing the gold dance there for a second :) loved the look around the bombing range very neat video Paul thanks for taking us along for the fun HH!
you must have some brilliant stories to tell! I used to watch Tornado's and A10's on the range and it was just brilliant
Thanks for the video, me and me dog walked over there today but could get no where near the ships as the marsh water level was well up.
be careful Tony as the water can come in quick

Great vid once again Monsieur! I bet the inside of your car was filthy after the ride home! Very interesting flick mate. GL & HH. Deano.
Also where you park your car. How long would it take to walk and see the wrecks. Would it be to far for a 7 yr old to walk. Many thanks

Great video brother . Thanks for sharing it.
Ok many thanks for the advise and warning. Think ill leave till my son is older. Many thanks.
LOL the APC sunk years ago, sometimes it's not visible and then it reappears so yeah dan is probably trying to claim salvage LOL

I was stationed there from '89 to '91, sad to see it looking so dilapidated these days!
Looks an interesting and fun place to walk the dog, well Cooper was loving it lol
By the way it looks like Deep Digger Dan has been digging up that APC?

Have you found the old jcb stick in the sand/ mud out there yet
I saw it when I filmed this but it was too far out and the tide was coming in, saw about 3 foot of the cab and the rest is still under the sand.
