More tips from an artist of 6+ years: - Make more music (iteration, work ethic, consistency). Compare this to drills in football, getting a trick when skating, shots in the gym. - Listen & study music actively Listen to a lot of music, whether it’s some you heard of from your friends, recommendations, listen to it. Goal here is to actively listen for your favorite parts (breakdown, a line, flow, delivery etc…) Study your favorite songs How they’re structured, how they sound sonically - Be open to inspiration (not influence) As a creative, being inspired has the large impact on our careers. Being able to come up with a verse based on how somebody makes you feel, for example, could be the difference between A. Being a mediocre artist, generic topics or B. Having a limitless creative pool. Hope this helped! (Be yourself ❤)
Lemme share what helped me: 1. Try stealing the chords from another song and add your own spin to it. 2. See what type of music you can just naturally make even when you don't have ideas. 3. Try everything in your DAW. Don't just stick to what you know is good. 4. When is it fun for you to make music?
I think one tip (that helped me with making beats anyways) was, your first attempts are never going to be your best so you just have to keep going so you can find what your best is🔥
honestly i’ve learned the last tip on my own. i mainly wanna make rap/hiphop but i figured i could make rock, maybe even pop as well cuz why not try other sounds too
Would 1000% recommend on trying new stuff, found alot out about myself and my voice, I can't sing or make music like my favourite artists (juice wrld trippie etc) but I can kill a rage beat and perform better on chaotic music, (and rock music weirdly enough) but i found the best music you will make will be music that reflects your personality as a person, if your a chill layed back guy then chill music will be your forte. And if your an on edge person/ aggressive or angry( like me) then that will reflect on your music
Gunnr is speaking facts on that tip 5 I used to make rap music well melodic then I tried a hyperpop beat and killed and have been making hyperop ever since
Thank you bro I been trying to make it on my own I'm slowly getting better I really needed your advice bro you the best🙏💕 the last tip really helped me a lot because I been trying to sing on pluggnb type beats and it coming out fye...thas a good tip bc you gotta have a variety. I record on a Samsung tablet in my bedroom and don't buy nothing so yeah.
collating with ur friends is so fax i’ve learned a lot from friends in my hometown but also people across the country don’t be afraid to reach out to ppl
As a relatively successful underground artist with my previous project "Lil Fireworkz" i would say that there are two kinds of artists. Ones that develop themselves, and ones that simply got lucky. I happened to be in the second category. Lol I will say, a "hack" is finding a music community that makes similar stuff to you. You can all collaborate and build the brand together. It was extremely powerful when I was doing that. Now im all alone in my endeveours, and no one is listening to my newer stuff.
It’s so hard to find your style tho at the beginning, for example I made some songs that are very different from each others and I keep trying and finding new music and new styles so it’s very hard to decide which one because each song does good, like for example your rock song does decent but you also got another song that also done decent but different style. But I guess nobody can really give an answer because I probably need to find it out by myself.
for me the hardest part how can you find a new or your own sound ... is because we need in house producers everyone is just copy so its limited im having this problem now
My personal problem with my own vocals, is that my music is so unique and different that I literally cannot figure out how to put vocals into the rhythm of my music. It actually sucks and make me sad. I hope that I can figure it out soon because I'm trying sooo hard. This is coming from someone who has two albums under my belt, both of which are great in my opinion. All mastered and produced by myself. All in two years. I have all the talent and work ethic but my own rhythm is cock blocking me
I’ve had styles that I made up but as I get older … I feel like how can you find your style without a in house producer? A lot of producer s on TH-cam just copy other sounds or what’s hot .. what’s the way around it ?
I love ur music gunnr and ur videos are entertaining as hell bro but a preset doesn’t replace an engineer or learning how to mix. It’s cool to record with it to catch that vibe but every room is different, everyone is recording on a different mic with a different voice. Even tweaking the knobs isn’t a solution either. Like I said, it’s cool to have the preset to record and experiment with but a preset doesn’t replace an engineer. Just my opinion tho.
