The original in theaters was such a scary and memorable experience. Clearly this is NOT that, and I guess I’ll wait for it to hit streaming. Sounds like a dud! Thanks for your honest review, Jason and Kali!

I didn't even hate the movie (liked it much better than Prey at Night) and I couldn't have said it better myself. This is the movie that Scream or Urban Legend would be mocking in the 90s.
I just saw the original yesterday and it was pretty good. I see some of the similar of the old one and the 2024 version. I enjoy this movie for a completely different reason. Not the worst movie of the year, but it depends on the other movies coming out this year.

A remake when they came out and said it wasn’t, just watching the trailer, you can see it was a remake. Who did they think they were fooling! From the trailer it looked like a CW show. I think I’ll wait for streaming.

I liked both Strangers movie but this just isn’t it. What even is this movie? It’s not a prequel because they have smart phones and it’s not a remake because they have smart phones. So it’s either a reimagining but it can’t be that because there are beat for beat scenes like the original. The writers are just stupid. Final guess.

Daaamn, that’s so disappointing. I’m a big fan of both the original Strangers and Prey at Night so I was really looking forward to this new trilogy. Kali should definitely watch the original 2 movies at some point. Based off your review, I think she’d like those so much more!

2:10 to 4:03 Kali would have lots of the "i HATE this movie". after sitting thru almost any Ulli Lommel directed\written movie. tons of cut away scenes and voice overs

A lot of horror mutual that love the strangers were so bummed by this glorified Requel. Well In a violent nature will make up for this.

There is no way your audience clapped. I know you wouldn't lie, but there's no way. My theater only reacted once, and that was when the guy didn't shoot the girl and then he gets knocked out. My theater laughed.

Because it didn’t seem like they were enjoying it AT ALL. I mean if they enjoyed it cool, but it was dead in there the whole time
It's definitely far from perfect, but I enjoyed it. The suspense kept me intrigued and the jump scares were good IMO. My main issues with the movie were the dumb decisions that the characters were making, and the lack of gore. It's Rated R, but it feels more like a PG-13 horror movie.

I haven't seen it yet but I still plan to. I have to know though, why it bothers you if other people like it or that your theater clapped? I had that happen quite a few times. One time was when I went to go see Black Christmas from 2019. There was a bunch of teens in the audience who were probably just casual horror fans and never seen the original. The more hardcore fans need to stop gatekeeping or being such critics. Like, I can't stand when someone says "did we watch the same movie?" Or when someone unsubscribe from a channel because "oh, you like this movie but I didn't." 🤦
I actually don't like the original Strangers. I think it's boring and over rated. I preferred the sequel, so maybe parts 2 and 3 for this new one will be better. Some horror fans have said their rating will change to a better score depending on what happens in the next one.
One more thing, the characters in the original make stupid decisions too. Didn't the main guy shot and kill his friend thinking it was one of the strangers? If characters in movies didn't make wrong turns or stupid decisions, we wouldn't have those movies.
I was shocked is all. We always support people loving what they love. We say that all the time. We never mean to come off that way.
I didn't hate it, I just didn't care. I'm not going to pretend that if the next one comes out next year I won't be there opening weekend though

Boring is the kiss of death (no pun intended) for a horror movie! It's funny - I too saw the original The Strangers in the movies when it came out and was like - this movie is okay. I don't hate it, don't love it. It just is. I honestly didn't care too much about the main characters and I really was tired of asking who Tamara was or whether she was there (hehe). I didn't want them to die but I wasn't overly worried about them if they did. I actually liked the second movie a bit better, which is even funnier, because when it came out I said - WHY? This isn't a franchise type of movie to me. The killers are not compelling or mysterious to me. They are annoying. It does NOT need a sequel - I didn't even bother to see it in the movies and waited for it to be on "cable". It is a sort of movie that hearkens back to 80s slashers but not with 80s "heart". 80s slashers were pretty vicious, but there was always a sort of wink and a nod to them - you knew that there was some love put into them, even if they were made for $1. You knew the actors had fun making it or they were all banged up from often doing their own stunts. You watched to see what a Tom Savini or Rick Baker could do with it. I saw the trailer for this and thought again WHY? WHAT? Then it said a prequel and I thought, oh how they came to be. So is the new version of trilogy going to be "Tales of" or different "adventures" of murder they went on before they met annoying Liv Tyler? All I could think when I saw the original was how Scott Speedman should have continued with Underworld. LOL What a miscalculation, man!
