  • What are the best dry leaves to add to your betta fish's tank? Indian Almond Leaves? Banana Leaves? Although there are a lot of other values to measure, in this video we compare the pH of 4 different types of dry leaves over a 5 day period! Watch the video to find out which one works and how our bettas reacted to it!

    This was a great video. I now know which leaf is the best and most effective. My betta fish likes the brown water so I might go with almond or cedar.

    Smart pretty girl. I was almost talked into using banana leaves, but you made it very clear it is a bad choice. Our tap water starts out at about 8.8 PH can you imagine what it would be with banana leaves. I will try to find some Bay Cedar and plant it in my yard. Thanks for setting me straight. 🖒😁

      Keep in mind that there are alot of banana tree species and I recommend you soak them for a few days and remove the water and soak them again. This process is to remove the toxic substances that the plant has carried

    • @NovitaListyani

      Thank you for your comment. We usually dry them under the sun and put them back. If they have become ineffective, than we put new ones in. Using drain net makes it very easy to maintain.

  • @arief6950

    What my lfs taught me that it's better to soak the leaves in water for a few days until it darkens and become oily (almond leaves primarily). Then take out that water and soak the leaves again. After the water becomes brown you can start using it. More tannin doesn't mean better results.

    Hi there, Great video! I was just wondering, other than washing the leaves, is there another way to clean the Almond leaves from pollutants? I bought indian almond leaves on Amazon and although the seller says they are washed, I don't want to endanger any Bettas

    • @NovitaListyani

      I think there's no harm in washing, or maybe you can wipe the leaves with cloth soaked with aquarium salt

    When will you be making a video on the GH hardness and all the other parameters? What do you think are the best parameters for Spawning? Do you have a specific recipe for your spawn water? Like do you add tapwater and RO water and then the Indian almond leaf and how much of each?

    • @NovitaListyani

      Will try to do another video as soon as we have time. GH/KH is very important for breeding and the eggs but do remember Betta love soft water.

  • @preedawancharoenchai5995
    @preedawancharoenchai5995 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    If you do some of researched all dried leaf produce tannin that what betta like it . And all your experiments came out slimmed,cloudy.stinky because dried leaf before you put in the tank you didn’t rinse off something came with leaf , all dried leaf not dried until crispy or dried on the tree till it fell off from branch . It is important for betta if water condition not comfortable for them betta will produce slime to protected themself from toxic , sap from dried leaf you add into the tank . From content I was read about tannin for betta if your local can’t find Indian almond leaf also use 100%dried oak bark or leaf , magnolia, tea

    • @lahormiga1989
      @lahormiga1989 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Marimo Moss balls are very good for almost all fresh water tanks. They actually help keep the water clean. You'll have to turn them to keep the shape. Also clean them up every so often. Just shake them or squeeze them gently in the water when you do a water change. My gold fish ate them, but my Betta and tropical fish didn't do anything to them. I've even keep them with shrimp and snails.
