The James Garner story is pure gold. It is at least a generation ago, but we need to acknowledge the legends. Gerald McRainey is no joke, but he still humbly remembers Garner being a gentleman. I'm a Gerald fan, now.
Big fan of Gerald McRaney and his characters over the years. He's a lung cancer survivor and also a rarity in Hollywood having been married to Delta Burke for over 30 years.
@@R_M.P There’s footage of her as Miss Florida in an episode of Lost Treasures of the NFL. She was there for a WFL game during the 1970s. It was some find.
I live in Athens Greece. When I was a child back in the 90s, I used to wake up very early in the morning, to see his show, because of this man. He was honest, kind and funny. Thank you Major dad. ❤🙏
I’m a big fan of Jericho and McRaney’s roll. However, he had what might be one of the best lines in all of the West Wing with his guest performance. Meeting with Leo (John Spence) and discussing a war crimes treaty at the UN, McRaney says to Leo, “All wars are crimes.” Still gives me goosebumps.
Im 46 and have great memories of watching Simon and Simon with my parents. He's a gentleman and an interesting man. I'm also a Jim Garner fan and was pleased to learn of their connection and Gerald's admiration for Jim. The real gold in Hollywood is people like this.
Love seeing Gerald McRaney. Simon & Simon was my favorite 80’s tv show (I’m only 57 and no walker, lol). I remember him as a bad guy in an episode of The Incredible Hulk and in the Rockford Files. Great interview.
I have loved Mr. McCraney's work since Simon and Simon, and everythng since. The fact that he found Jim Garner so kind only makes this better! Todd Konoske ( NOT in the walker..yet)
I was a kid and watched S&S with my dad, great show... But Deadwood, which I refused to watch until after it was over... When I finally got hooked and realized it was legit art... (OKAY enough ellipses) I still steal the line from Gerald McRaney when EB Farnum introduces himself and he says, "This fellow looks like he stepped out of a specimen box." Fantastic! One of the top 10 lines in the entire show. God bless the writer and GM for the perfect delivery. God I miss legit art cinema.
This man is an incredible actor. I’m not surprised about James Garner. Not only was he a genuinely good guy but he also disliked the network executives and eventually filed suit against them over his pay in the Rockford Files and won.
Gosh, I love him!!! Since I first saw Rick Simon I was a goner. And he’s so talented!! I even like him when he’s the villain. He’s constantly in demand!! He’s the best.
Loved Major Dad very much. He also played the dad in Never Ending Story. Sad to see him so aged (a sign of my own aging), but glad he appears to be doing well!
I literally just searched for 'Gerald McRaney interviews' and had no idea I'd get one that was only 3 days old! This is so awesome. I was wondering what he was up to these days. He seems so gracious and appreciative and not bitter like some actors. Very cool James Garner story!
Excellent talk with a most charming and accessible man. His James Garner story was everything I'd ever heard about Garner being that much of a gentleman.
Simon & Simon was the best!!! Love the Power Wagon and the boat in the yard! I love many of his other stuff as well but the brother humor and the kickass Power Wagon.
Lovely man. Married that lovely Southern girl from Designing Women. Such a nice match. Nailed Hearst in Deadwood. Loathed his character but he did it so well. Thank you Gerald.
I am, sadly, television deficient. No tv here most of the time. I still remember all the stuff I did get to see him in! I watched everything I could when I lived in LA, but when I moved to the sticks in Arizona I had to go without! Couldn't watch most of this stuff. 😞🌵🌵👵🐺🖖💖
McRaney is so good, especially in Deadwood. The irony is, George Hearst was, in reality, NOTHING like the character. He was a very nice guy, and his wife was wonderful. But, Milch's creative license was great. Best show, ever.
Remember a story, likely from TV Guide (Remember that?) that Garner had a fight scene with another actor & the actor hit him. Garner, thinking it was an accident, let it go but when it happened again Garner nailed him nearly knocking the guy out.
The football team was Vanderbilt. He goes peach picking with the new family and misses the greatest comeback in college football History. The major dad episode
His character, George Hearst, in the series DEADWOOD was about as big an a**hole as anyone could be. Gerald pulled it off so well! I don't know how someone so nice could pretend to be so brutal. Great actor!
I grew up watching Simon and Simon and I'm not using a walker yet either ;) I do wish you'd had time to mention "Jericho". His scenes with Tim Omundson made the air burn.
Talented actor and a gentleman. But when I hear his named mentioned, my first thought is that he’s fortunate enough to be married to one of the most beautiful ladies ever, Delta Burke.
Rich Eisen must be some kind of King. He raises his chair above his guests to imply "I am the King--you are not". If I was Gerald McRaney, I never would have sat down.
Nobody is going to mention him saying: “I was fairly quick. I could do a ten flat 100 in those days….” The world record is 9.58, Carl Lewis ran it 9.86. Hopefully he either misspoke or did it just to gauge how full of s**t the individual with whom he is having a conversation is or how well they are listening.
Probably because anyone/everyone else with a cell of common sense realizes what he meant and how it meant it. Must be lonely up there in perfection…….😂
Simon & Simon one of the best openings and tv themes of all time!
I play it at work all the time. All of us over 40 laugh and cheer. Lol
It really was.
Right behind Magnum pi which was right behind Hawaii 5-0.:)
You Got that right. I never missed an episode of this or Magnum P.I. when i was a kid.
@@stevenfrost6441 me either.
I'm 43 and Simon & Simon is the thing I'll always remember him from. Great story about James Garner.
McRaney is a brilliant actor, George Hearst is one of the most iconic villians in TV history.
Love Gerald McRaney. 17:00 That James Garner story warmed my heart and got me misty-eyed. 🙂
Yes, it's just great! So nice to hear that James Garner was the man I thought he was.
The James Garner story is pure gold.
It is at least a generation ago, but we need to acknowledge the legends. Gerald McRainey is no joke, but he still humbly remembers Garner being a gentleman. I'm a Gerald fan, now.
I'm 49 and Simon & Simon is still one of my all time favorite shows.
Big fan of Gerald McRaney and his characters over the years. He's a lung cancer survivor and also a rarity in Hollywood having been married to Delta Burke for over 30 years.
Didn't she used to be Miss Florida?
@@cityhawk Yes Miss Fla in 1970's -ish? Then starred in Designing Women in late 80's.
@@R_M.P There’s footage of her as Miss Florida in an episode of Lost Treasures of the NFL. She was there for a WFL game during the 1970s. It was some find.
I loved hearing his Jim Garner story, what a great guy. Been a fan of both guys since I was a kid.
Great story about James Garner! I always knew he was a fine actor, but it seems he was a fine individual as well.
I love Gerald McRaney. Simon and Simon is one of my all time favorite shows.

Loved him in Simon and Simon, especially the hat.
Simon and Simon vastly underrated
Nothing was ever better than Deadwood dialogs.

Rick Simon and George Hearst. Two characters wildly different, but played brilliantly.
Love seeing Gerald McRaney. Simon & Simon was my favorite 80’s tv show (I’m only 57 and no walker, lol). I remember him as a bad guy in an episode of The Incredible Hulk and in the Rockford Files. Great interview.
I'm 39 and I'd recognize him from Simon and Simon first, never watched Major Dad, but loved Longmire. F*** I'm old!
George Hearst was such a good character. When Bullock grabs him by the ear was magnificent.
I have loved Mr. McCraney's work since Simon and Simon, and everythng since. The fact that he found Jim Garner so kind only makes this better! Todd Konoske ( NOT in the walker..yet)

I figured James Garner was that kind of guy. Nice to hear stories like that. We always remember people who go the extra mile.
I could listen to Gerald all day long. Great interview, thanks Rich!
This man is an incredible actor.
I’m not surprised about James Garner. Not only was he a genuinely good guy but he also disliked the network executives and eventually filed suit against them over his pay in the Rockford Files and won.
He did a great job in Justified!
Gosh, I love him!!! Since I first saw Rick Simon I was a goner.
And he’s so talented!! I even like him when he’s the villain.
He’s constantly in demand!!
He’s the best.
I am huge Fan of Simon & Simon and I am 37 no walker 😂

beautiful James Garner memories ❤️
Also played a notable character in Justified.
Great actor. Great stories, too.

Simon & Simon was the best!!! Love the Power Wagon and the boat in the yard! I love many of his other stuff as well but the brother humor and the kickass Power Wagon.
This is not the first person I’ve heard talk about Jim Garner this way. Many celebrities have told stories like this.
Why doesn't anyone talk about Promised Land. It was one of his underrated TV shows. I guess because he had so many great projects over the years.
Lovely man. Married that lovely Southern girl from Designing Women. Such a nice match. Nailed Hearst in Deadwood. Loathed his character but he did it so well. Thank you Gerald.
62 here and a long way from being in a walker. Simon and Simon for the win!!
Gerald is such a great actor! I hate him in Deadwood, but he is a lovable man in real life.
Excellent guest and fantastic interview!
This just made my day.
I am, sadly, television deficient. No tv here most of the time. I still remember all the stuff I did get to see him in! I watched everything I could when I lived in LA, but when I moved to the sticks in Arizona I had to go without! Couldn't watch most of this stuff. 😞🌵🌵👵🐺🖖💖
Great interview. Really enjoyed the stories of James Garner.

He was great House of Cards, Longmire! Of course great in Designing Women and Simon and Simon.
Love Gerald Mcraney !

Correction mr eisen. The Great Gerald Mcraney. Huge fan since simon & simon.
Such a gentleman…
Oh my gosh, such good stuff! Thanks muchly 👍

Gerald pulled it off so well! I don't know how someone so nice could pretend to be so brutal. Great actor!
I hated it when he was the bad guy in the move, "The A Team". In fact I was hurt a little.
@@vanmoodySame here. Love Gerald McRaney, love Deadwood. Did not like him being a bad guy. Oh well, he played his part well. 🙂
I grew up watching Simon and Simon and I'm not using a walker yet either ;) I do wish you'd had time to mention "Jericho". His scenes with Tim Omundson made the air burn.
Simon and Simon, of course.
Not surprising. Garner was a real man.
Jericho!!!
I loved him in the show. What a great character.
Simon & Simon, 51 no walker!
I’m 47 and I’d go with Simon and Simon or This is Us
Superb in deadwood
Talented actor and a gentleman. But when I hear his named mentioned, my first thought is that he’s fortunate enough to be married to one of the most beautiful ladies ever, Delta Burke.
He did a couple of Incredible Hulk episodes.
Gerald McRaney, and his Power Wagon.
Rich Eisen must be some kind of King. He raises his chair above his guests to imply "I am the King--you are not". If I was Gerald McRaney, I never would have sat down.
I remember Gerald Mcraney In the second pilot of the incredible hulk his character didn't like David Banner so much but yeah he is a good actor
He absolutely killed it in Jericho. Another show that was cancelled much too soon.
He was the sherif in Mike and Molly
Mike’s captain
What about JERICHO?
It is the best two seasons of TV ever! NUTS!!!
Gerald mcrany is a good actor.
Nic Offerman started in drama set construction as well
He was really good Jericho.
Pretty, pretty good Rich
Love Gerald’s Manning story, but I knew Ashley Manning before she was a Manning; and I was at Peyton and Ashley’s wedding.
What about promise land
49 = No Walker 😆
If they redid Rockford he would be a wonderful Rocky Rockford's dad I think he well I know he could play Rockford . But he's the age to play Rocky
I though Simon and Simon was over way before Major Dad
SIMON & SIMON!
I feel so sorry for Gerald McRaney, having to be so polite to this egomaniac Rich Eisen.
West Wing!
Nobody is going to mention him saying: “I was fairly quick. I could do a ten flat 100 in those days….” The world record is 9.58, Carl Lewis ran it 9.86.
