Excellent video! It is soooo important to know who you are following and that they align as much as possible with your personal hair or life goals.
I think that those who make content do have a level of responsibility since people do listen to or follow them BUT the people that watch and subscribe have to take responsibility for themselves PERIOD! It’s not fair for ‘you’ to neglect, deprive or limit yourself of experiences because someone else may follow you and not be prepare for whatever actions or consequences. That is their choice! No one came into their house, tied them down and broke out a flat iron and force straight hair😂🤣
All I’m saying is we content creators are regular everyday people that most don’t know outside of the 10-20 minutes of edited video we post a week so don’t make us the end all to be all. Make choices for yourself that suit your wants and needs and take content creators videos as simply as a shared experience.
P.S. The wig looks good! I too, want to play with learning to braid and baby hairs😂

I’ve never had a relaxer, sew-in or anything like that. But I don’t demonize other people who do. I love my curls but sometimes I like to use heat for strengthening and stretching when I want a change. That’s the beauty of black hair we can change how ever we want and still be beautiful. It’s honestly all about how you take care of your hair.

I love my curly hair. I have never hated it. But I started straighten it like 3-4 times a year on holidays/cold weather now just for a switch up. Do I feel different. Yes. Do I feel more beautiful? No; just want do styles that only work for straight hair. So I believe in do whatever makes you happy. Just don’t bash others on what they do. You wanna encourage someone? Go ahead; but don’t bring people down.

I hear you taking a LOT of responsibility for other people's personal hair journey. Yes, you're an influencer, but you're a whole person who should also be able to do whatever you want to do. In my opinion, if a person is going to base their hair moves solely on other people, they are still in the "figuring it out" phase and no one else can figure out what's important to them *for* them. Some folks gotta go back and forth before they know what they truly want for themselves, and some just like switching it up over and over again. None of that is any single influencer's responsibility, and you're already doing the work of encouraging self-love, which is what I think we need the most.

Hi Bianca, I think you’re right. The natural hair movement didn’t fail, I mean if someone want to straight their hair that’s on them. No one is saying you have to do it! A lot of the tips I’ve got from the natural hair movement helped my hair enormously. But sometimes if I want to straight it I think I would rather buy me a wig. But it’s still my own decision. And indeed you can hear some influencers say a lot but it’s up to each person if they follow them or not. I do understand your point of view just because some people decide to straight their hair doesn’t mean the whole movement failed! Btw that wig looks good on you, so pretty😍🤩.

I recently straightened my hair. I set it in rollers then lightly pressed it.
I was thankful for the break. I had a lot going on in my life and was look good throughout what was happening. I understand it’s not for everyone, for me it was a crutch to get me through a tough time and still look good.

I can't go back to straightening hair after I've seen so much progress in my natural hair journey it's taken me 3 years since relaxers to rock my curls. When I did get it straightened it would puff out later in the day or the next then id end up wearing it in a pony for the week and the heat damage just wasnt worth it anymore. I'm now 6 months without straightening 😊

You'd be a great candidate for a straight headband wig!! Then it'll look completely natural too! You could do this with color too if you desired. V-PART wigs are my jam as well!
That's my plan for my daughter when she starts asking to straighten her hair. This way she doesn't potentially ruin her curl pattern. She has your length and texture and I don't want to mess up the health. I believe we should be able to go back and forth.
I use headband wigs to keep my real hair healthy. I love COLOR so I bought a ton of colored headband wigs so I can go from blonde ombre, to ginger, to burgundy without putting my hair through the ringer!

Do you have any brand recommendations? I’ve always wanted to try the headband wigs!

    • @mcelweewife
      @mcelweewife ปีที่แล้ว +2

@@chococat3972 yes!!!! Amazon has human hair ones for 79-99 dollars! Type in human headband wigs on Amazon, they are hella affordable. I'm actually relaxed, but my hair is in great shape because I don't use heat at all, only flexirods and I deep condition twice a week.
I have over 30 headband wigs in various textures and colors, I just make sure the underlayer and interior crown of my colored wigs are dyed jet black to match my hairline. I don't like lace fronts on me because of the grid pattern on the scalp, I just can't stand that fake look. I'm so glad headband wigs are a thing and V-PART wigs. They look VERY believable!
I'm the type to grab wigs from everywhere, if it's cute and what I want I will pay whatever. With after-pay it's very affordable. I have purchased from:
      NIA WIGS🔥
      UNICE
      LUVME
      SHEIN
      AMAZON
ALL of them are human hair, they are absolutely worth the investment. I deep condition them regularly and rewet and define my curly ones after EACH wear. I don't put heat on my kinky straight wigs, ONLY flexirods.
      I deep condition my headband wigs in this order;
First I shampoo (using AS I AM COCONUT COWASH) them and rinse the shampoo out under the bathtub faucet. Right after I rinse the wig thoroughly I lay it on top of a bath towel and roll it into a burrito.
I let it sit like that for ten minutes, that's how long it takes to stop dripping.
At the point I generously apply Shea moisture Jamaican black castor oil hair mask on the wig from dome to ends.
Then I place it in a large ziplock bag pressing ALL the air out. I then place it into my soft bonnet dryer with the blow dryer attached to it. I secure the soft dome dryer with a satin scrunchie to keep the heat trapped and let the heat penetrate my wig ziplock side up for 15 minutes. I then flip it and run it for an additional 15 minutes on other side!
This allows me to deep condition my wigs with heat without wearing them under my hard dome dryer. They need a good deep condition occasionally.
Otherwise I just rinse them, roll them up in a towel for ten minutes, put them back on, reclump/define them and hang them on the bathroom door knob to dry.
Once dry , I hang them by the band on a hanger in the closet until I want to wear them again. I've been doing this for nearly a year with my wig collection and expect many years of wear out of them as long as I take care of the hair.
This also allows me to remove the wig with ease and tend to my real hair every night by bagging my ends and tying my hair down every night! I have never liked braids and wigs or the idea of sew INS because I like treating my hair and making sure to moisture and baggy it every night!

I think it’s fine to straighten/blow dry out your hair every now and then. You just need to care for it before and after. Also it’s actually good to cut your ends on straight or blown out hair coz you can see the health of your ends more clearly.

As a “straightened natural”, I rock my straight hair and I rock my curly hair. I use your tips and product recommendations and try to stay away from silicone, etc. I have minimal heat damage (the front of my hair has always been loose so it’s easier to get damaged). I also only straighten my hair and don’t get it done professionally so I can control heat. Plus different curls react to hear differently. What may damage type 3 hair might not damage type 2. All in all, I think if you choose to straighten your hair, I wouldn’t judge you and I think you put that disclaimer up front for others. I’ve followed you and straighten my hair and taken what I needed and left what I didn’t. If you choose to do it, I hope others take what they need and leave what they don’t want.

I just think people should do what they want to their hair regardless of what an “influencer” thinks. I’m not a follower in that way. I’ve been natural for 4 years and I’m always thinking about getting a relaxer because I have long, thick, shrinkage prone hair. My wash days are emotionally draining. Your hair is literally “wash and go”. 😂 Some of us don’t have it like that. Straightening is definitely a consideration for me.

I love that you’ve done so much to influence self love on our curls and I’ll forever be grateful for that. However, I do think that you’ve started to take on a-lot of extra responsibility for our journeys. Curl hair/wavy hair/kinky and coily hair are all a personal thing in that different techniques work for different people. And if someone wants to straighten their hair, blowout etc. then I don’t see anything wrong with that, as long as they are being mindful of heat protection in the process. There are ways to not damage your hair despite doing different types of manipulation. Love all that you do for us Bianca! ❤

If you have curly hair, afro hair if want straight hair do like what most black women doing wear wigs, clip on ponytail, half wigs. It is fun to try out other hair styles without doing anything to your natural unprocessed chemical hair. I had relax my natural hair from when I was age 14 years and in summer 2018 when I was age 47 years I stop chemically processing my hair straight and let it grow out and I then eventually cut off the chemically process hair. And now my hair is a little longer than shoulder length and the only thing is this over the Christmas holiday I wanted to straighten my natural hair with a straightening iron and I did and it took hours but after I was finish and I was all dressed up for my Christmas dinner by myself I was playing some cds and dancing and my hair got puffy and curly back and my hair is very thick. To brush my natural hair flat to be in one takes alot. I put my hair in a protective hair style by twisting it and wear my wigs when I go out. Wearing wigs is fun for me but I don't glue down any wig on my head. I don't want that because I like when I come back home and before I go to bed to take off my ponytail or hair wigs so that my hair can breathe and I am more comfortable without wigs on my head in bed.
I am not used to straighten my natural kinky curly hair with a straightener iron and I am afraid to burn my hair because you see on TH-cam how some women straightening their afro hair and end up burning it off. Therefore next time I may have to go to an hair dresser to get a silk press done professionally.

My hair is my emotional state. When it is short then you know I have been through something. Now, when I want to chop, I get braids. My hair is as long yours now, and when my mental health wants me to cut it off, I think, what else can I do, and I preserve all my hard work.

I've been natural since highschool (2010) but before that I only got a relaxer right before highschool started so I've never really been into straight hair like that. Since I've been wearing my hair in it's natural state (3C-4B), I only really straighten my hair once during the winter months but I do wear it blown out a few times a year. I've only had heat damage once in college (luckily it was only in the back) but I stick to my routine: straight hair prep shampoo and conditioner, protein treatment and deep conditioner, then at least two heat protectants, and a finishing oil/gloss.

I have a mixuter of mostly wavy with some curly hair. I've followed the CGM since about 2017 and now have long, soft, healthy hair. And I'm curretnly debating whether or not to add bangs. I do straighten my hair once in a while but always use a heat protectant with a hair protectant creme and add a little oil after I dry my hair with a warm, low speed. I don't see any split ends but do trim my hair every so often. I honestly wouldn't hold it against you Bianca Renee if you straighten your hair one day. It's your hair and your life and I'm responsible for my choices and actions. And because of you & other TH-camrs, I now know how to take care of my hair. (": You've taught me so much! Thank you. Anyways, I know you'll be careful and will use the correct products in order to protect your hair if you do decide to blow dry it straight one day. I have to be honest tho, my one gripe right now, well, actually a sadness, is how few videos there are about taking care of wavy/curly hair. I miss that but I know life goes on for many TH-camrs and one can only do so many videos about hair until they want to do more. So, I welcome the change but would still love to see a hair videos on once in awhile. Bianca, I wanna send you some ORS Fix-It products! Got2Be is technically styling products & not meant for wig installs even though that’s how many use them. Also Fix-It is gentle on your edges to prevent mechanical damage.

What the big deal about straightening someone's hair and it better than using relaxer and I doubt it would damage the hair to do it blue moon. 💇🏾‍♀ And I thinking of flat ironing it so I can cut it because I want to know what looks healthy and what doesn't. Maybe they want to go back to relaxers because they want to be included in the class action that going on against the relaxer manufacturers and willing to die for a $20 check. This was more tiring watching putting on the wig (which show the reason not flavoring, it looks fake) and I rather one day just flatiron it and be okay with it for a week or two and revert it back. There a risk of having allergic reaction to all the stuff in the wig. I tried wearing one I have twice, and it just looks so fake that I have to put a headband on it so not to see the hair line, it is irritating and have you self-conscious all the while you are wearing it because for me it looked stupid on some and you trying to make sure it is staying in place. If I could afford to go to someone for them only to flatiron it and I would go home and do everything else, I would do it at least twice a year. I consider the whole idea of being natural is that it is stronger and can take on hair color and occasional heat. Everyone's hair journey is their own and if they want to play around with their hair and put some heat to it, so be it. As a natural child my hair was straighten for church and special events and I still had a head full of hair. So, you basically click baited us, but your thinking is that because you put "I thought" (it ok) and had us look at a wig application from someone that had no more experience than some of us and it was wack. 🤣😂🤣The only thing that I don't like about wearing my natural hair at this time is that gray is just not complimentary and I wear my hair pulled back most of the time smooth down in a bun because the grey does not stand out as much when it flat. I know that I am 61 but don't want my hair yelling witch, witch. teehee! I know that a lot of women (I have one on one interaction) just cut their hair because it gets to a length, and they don't like how it looks on them. Maybe I will try just wearing rollers and see if it will smooth those greys down. Blessing to you and all in the new year.

I also accept your challenge this week of water only. I was good all day today not even knowing that was going to be the challenge. 😂 i work the next 3 days in a row so it will definitely be hard not to drink coffee while at work but I'm up for it!

My biggest concern is Black women returning to relaxers at the same time we are seeing studies, litigation and class actions about the connection between fibroids and other diseases and relaxers. Mechanically straightening and chemically straightening are different. You will service heat damage even if if sucks. But chemicals impacting your health is a different risk.
