8:09 the extra polys are most likely coming from the hands. A clever way to cut down on animation time is to swap out pre-modeled meshes with different hand poses rather than animate individual fingers. The poly count is higher because you’re viewing all the hand meshes at the same time. In game only one of the hand meshes would be rendered at a time. The other model only has one hand mesh that would obviously change poses via animation. :)
15:42 It’s important to remember that just because there is less triangles in a model doesn’t necessarily mean that it is “lower quality”. Sometimes, 3D model artists find smarter and more efficient ways to model the joints and movable parts of a character to better animate them, without having too many useless triangles taking up memory for no reason. The fact that the model in Frontiers looks better (or at least similar) than the one in Forces and has a lower triangle count shows that they found smarter ways to model this character.
8:22 weighing in on the tri count thing: sometimes the tri count you get on imported models from game rips can be deceiving, as there can be duplicate faces that aren’t actually supposed to be there which wouldn’t be obvious from wireframe view. When doing a tri count comparison, it’s important to clean the models up properly and ensure that no extraneous geometry is present. I’d be curious to inspect that blender file myself.
It would be interesting to see a comparison of Goku models from various Dragon Ball games, since some of the games warp the characters' models from certain angles in-game to better mimic the art style of the manga, while others leave them as they are from all angles.
I love this channel soo much! Watching while building my game keeps me goin, thank you sir. Also sadx Tails with all upgrades is best Tails. Love da ribbon he gets
Sonic Shuffle is cel-shaded, so the characters have a black outline. This is achieved by duplicating the model over top. So effectively the model is stacked on top of its self which is why the model is double the poly count of his SA model. Furthermore the outline model is offset slightly, which is why it looks more "blocky".
For your Sonic videos, the: Unleashed, Generations, Lost World, Forces & Frontiers models should all be grouped together, they are all basically the same.
The models from that game are actually sprites taken from a 3D render that isn't in the game. It's similar to how Donkey Kong Country looks, as that dev team also made 3D models and turned the character poses into sprites to fit on the console while also giving a destinct look.
@@traewhite7901 The Saturn version uses real polygonal models for its special stages. Tails flies Sonic into the stage when he is given 50 rings in the 2D isometric main game.
Pls do Knuckles model showdown next. I need someone to acknowledge his flatter head and muzzle in the more recent games. Personal Note: Personally I think the movie knuckles is the best in proportions since it doesn't make his head look like a squashed pancake his muzzle protrudes more like in the classic games. the SA1 Dreamcast model also accomplishes this look but I think It goes the opposite direction and makes his forehead to big and makes his muzzle looks puffy. Movie Knuckles is the perfect middle ground and I'd like to see a model with the art style of modern knuckles and the proportions of movie knuckles.
The DS model is absolutely not 2000 tris. The DS can render a maximum of 2048 tris in a frame, which includes the rest of the characters and game world in the scene. If Tails was 2000 tris, the DS would not be able to render anything else.
Fun fact the black bands on his wrists and shoes are to help him properly fit his gloves and socks cause they are too big for him normally
Awh that's a cute detail, i never thought that deep about it!
Do they mention that in one of the comics or something?

I would say the eyes notice how his eyes shape are more modelled than SA1's model they are little deeper

The one with the shuffle are probably the eyes you see how his eye socket is little deeper from the SA1 model
Great videos! Would love to see Amy Rose models in the future!

There is a model of Tails in Sonic 3D Blast on the Sega Saturn but I think it hasn't been ripped as it's really brief in the game.

Gotta do Knuckles next of course!
Do knuckles next
If you did Mario you got to do Luigi
I’m only slightly triggered by “tails miles prower” instead of “miles ‘tails’ prower” =P
I wish Sonic Boom was included as well but great video overall
Thanks!
I love this videos so much
Could you make The Ultimate Flying Tails Model Showdown? That would be cool!
The black bands are so tails can fit his shoes and gloves they're too big for him

Amazing video!
Do shadow next 🎉🎉🎉
Khalil as Tails the Fox
It would be cool to see a Zelda showdown or a Sora from KH
Sonic Riders Tails looks like a rooster with that elongated hair
I like this kind of videos
Would be great to see Luigi next
This is awesome to see :0
Sonic 4?
Sonic the fighters would want to ask you to be the true first model of tails
It's the same as from the video
the one and only fox boy
Please do the sly Cooper games
Can you please review Bowser's models? That would be interesting
What about sonic the fighters
The sonic shuffle model isn’t set to smooth shading in blender. That’s why it looks worse.
Tails's riders model looks the best imo
Luigi Next Pehaps?
Hopefully they improve the models in the future
i would like to see shadow but he hasn't appeared in much games has he ?
You forgot about Sonic the fighters again lol
10:51 derpy face
13:32 im pretty sure the models from dash are based off the wii models from unleashed and colors
you imported every model but forgot to put the "harden normals" modifier so the normals aren't all messed up
What happened to Boom Tails 😭💀
HOW DARE YOU FORGET Sonic Speed Simulator (Roblox) TAILS! I WILL NOT STAND FOR THIS SLANDER!!
I bet the next showcase will be of Luigi 😏
Can you do Vector or Metal Sonic?
