Another terrific performance. These episodes are a marvel of pathos, humor, and drama. Thanks for posting!

One of the great unsung heroines of the British theatre - so glad Downton Abbey has brought Penelope Wilton to a worldwide audience. I would agree the actual monologue and its plot is more extreme than the others - someone has said far fetched, but Alan Bennett interweaves the metaphors to make it moving . People really do hide behind their hobbies and passions to protect themselves emotionally. By the end you feel sorry for this lady who lacks the strength step out of her stifling marriage and who has lost her lady soul mate.

I know these things happen, but in the context of this monologue, it seemed far-fetched; to me, at least. But it did not spoil the overall effect. Penelope Wilton could read the phone book, and I'd be enthralled.

It doesn't surprise me as well, Alan Bennett is such a terrific writer with what he puts into these things about human emotions, desires and a sense of mystery.

Fantastic. It would be hard to chose the best. Monologues are beautifully paired to the actresses.

I love Penelope Wilton. She reminds me a bit of Claudie Blakley here, whom I think is highly underrated, as well.

Right it was her husband participated in the degradation of the woman who shot her husband. She should never have gone to jail.

I think if I'd been there when the Master Jesus said, "Love they neighbor," I might have said, "Why bother?"

It's sad that her husband did it. It will hurt her to. Even if she sits there denying it.

Isabella Peebles I know it's a t month old question, but thought to reply anyway, I am sure you know by now, Talking Heads and Talking Heads 2 have both been published on books. Beautiful monologues by Alan Bennet, I prefer the first series, the second has been "ordered" by the BBC because the success of the first one.

Daisydilly1.. I meant that you wouldn't think she and Henry would have been considering somewhere hot and chic like Marbella ...they are staid and dull....you would imagine them to prefer Grange-Over-Sands......judging by her buttoned up polyester sludge and fawn garments and house décor...lol
