I am binge watching and trying to catch up on your videos. Can the Dutch Barges travel all of the same canals that the widebeam boats do or are they restricted to certain widebeam canals?
Aww thank you, we hope you’re enjoying them 😊 it does depend on the size of the barge and the wheelhouse and whether that collapses for low bridges, but in general a lot of them can travel the same waterways as wide-beams 😁
Lovely boat and a good tour. One thing that confused me was the way the cockpit roof can be lowered. I presume the windows (and doors) all have to be dealt with first. The front windows look to fold outwards onto the cabin roof, but the side windows look to fold inwards (judging by the hinges). This is where I'm confused because the 2 forward roof struts look as if they are blocking the nearest windows on either side, so I can't see how they fold down to allow the roof to be lowered. Did you happen to notice how this is done?
We think on a lot of these boats they actually unclip, fold out slightly and then slide off the hinges, but no we didn’t actually see it done. Not something you would want to do too often! 😊
@@WidebeamandWellingtons It is something I'm looking at to see whether a light weight version could be done for a narrow boat rather than having a pram cover. Its the idea of having a decent size squared off cruiser stern that makes a nice dining area even in cooler weather while moored. A room with a view rather than being sat lower down inside all the time. Obviously in nice weather it would be stowed away during the day and maybe even evenings, but in the middle of winter on a rotten, wet day you are forced to move keeping it up if there are not more than one or two bridges along the way would be advantageous. I'm playing around with a number of designs - hence watching closely whenever something similar comes up. Pram covers seem expensive and drafty given their relatively short life. Noisy too in the rain.

They were the original ones though, not converted into live aboards. As a live-aboard I think level floors would be easier to live with. I also think it is high time that windows were made big enough and to come low enough so that while sat on a sofa you can see birds on the water instead of only having a view of the sky.

We have seen narrow barges on the river before not sure who makes them though 🤔
