    Roboto somehow slowly but surely gonna be Azimuth iconic model.

    I really liked this until I saw the Bitcoin logos splattered on it. Really kills the 50s toy vibe.

      Without a doubt, the cryptocurrency theme marks this as a product of an era. For some, this will be appealing, for others, less so. It's like the two-tone watches of the 80s and the digital LED watches of the 70s. In decades to come, the Bitcoin and crypto imagery on the Mr. Roboto either will appeal on a retro/nostalgia basis or offend as a period cliche. But's beautifully engraved, and that has lasting value regardless of the topic chosen.

    I love it. Wish the price of the Steel model Roboto R1 was around $3500. The steel model is around $6000 which is a little expensive in my opinion. But any way lovely model.
    The regular bronze and the artist bronze are definitely on the expensive side for me, but beautiful.

    idk. You can enter the avant garde watch market with a xeric or an atowak for a fraction of the price and you don't have to deal with a brand that obnoxiously labels their production pieces 1/1

      True, are cheaper alternatives, but then that's always the case with any luxury watch at any price point. Sometimes, a person falls in love with a design, and that's the main reason we buy luxurious fashion accessories in the first place.

    • @the1916companywatchreviews
      @the1916companywatchreviews  2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      I always try to include more context than the standard YT watch reviewer, so this was my way of putting a uniquely offbeat product into perspective. It's fun to look at a watch as an article of culture as well the usual view of timepieces as fashion accessories.

    I love the watch. The bronze is cool. A theme is cool… But maybe not the crypto theme. Question: what does “long-term“ mean? It’s an interesting phrase to repeat a couple times. Does this mean they gave you the watch?

    • @the1916companywatchreviews
      @the1916companywatchreviews  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I don't think so, but it's important to mention that the possibility is on the table. It was important for me to clarify that I didn't buy this nor is it a WB watch from the company inventory. If Azimuth does let me keep it, I'll put a note in the description right at the top, and I'll probably talk about it on Watches Tonight to be clear. Honestly, I hope they do let me keep it, because I love wearing the watch.

      His wristmons series (the face watches) have become FAR more expensive since the original Joker. The Azimuth leads on value by a mile when compared to the prices Chaykin is charging these days. That said, the wristmons also smaller than the Azimuth by a mile, so fit is an important consideration.

      @@the1916companywatchreviews indeed Tim. I'm very sad to see that the Wristmons watches have become so outrageously priced now. Back in 2021, I was planning to commission a piece unique Clown and it was around 12k. Unfortunately I didn't manage to proceed. Now a year later when I contacted them again, it's 30k! Like what?! I can't believe in just one year's time, the pricing can jump over 100%... Just outrageous.

    Very nice to see you reviewing some off-the-beaten-path alternatives, Tim. For quite some time now, I've been trying to send you pictures of my LYH (an AHCI member, no less) to the Monday Mailbag e-mail. Unfortunately, your colleague Jason doesn't seem to have the slightest interest in sharing them with you. If you want me to directly reach out to you somehow, it will be my pleasure to do so. Greetings from Austria!

    I know this is the world of collectables, but if I were to draw a comparison to the automobile world, I think of "Excalibers" or the 1960's - 1980's efforts to try to come up with modern versions of defunct auto brands like Stutz, or Pierce Arrow....usually a fiber glass body on a Corvette, or perhaps Eldorado chassis, and designed to be a boulevard cruiser for Las Vegas, or perhaps Palm Beach (thinking you are really driving in Monte Carlo)....I see something like this aging as well, and holding its' value similarly....( as in "not" to both).
    On the other hand, if we were talking under $1,500 or $2,000, you may have something.

    • @the1916companywatchreviews
      @the1916companywatchreviews  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The Virgil Exner Stutz Blackhawks now sell for serious money when they're in top condition. I've seen first year examples sell for deep into six figures. Anything done well has the potential to remain desirable in the long term. Those Stutzes are worth more than Zimmers and Clenets (and others) because the added value and work invested were immensely higher than other neoclassicals. Hopefully, watch collectors view Azimuth that way.

      Tim

      @@the1916companywatchreviews Tim, many thanks for the reply. Once again, your knowledge of detail wins the day. I researched the vehicle you referred to (I recognized Virgil Exner - an American auto design icon), and yes, they are collectable. The vehicles I was thinking of were all those "kit cars" and similar that would advertise on the back pages of Popular Science/Mechanics, Motor Trend, Car and Driver, etc. Some you could buy assembled (Excalibur), or with assembly required (like a Caterham). You mentioned Zimmer and Clenet - two other classics of the genre. Those have not aged well, and while they still can sell, they are odd birds indeed. The market for them, is the retired plumbing contractor in Palm Beach, who spends his days in pastel sport coats and slacks, and thinks the ostrich and fur interiors are the epitome of style...

    I appreciate the quirkiness of the actual time display, but the case shape is so obviously RM ‘inspired’ which I think really takes away from the originality

      The GMT/retrograde/regulator module is theirs, and that add quite a bit of value. Even Urwerk uses Zenith Elite bases on watches priced up to six figures, and MB&F has used Sellita SW300s on watches priced into five figures. The watch needs to be judged as a whole rather than solely on the basis of the base movement.
