Fellow PNW lawn care nut… while I’d enjoy a full backyard reno, I think a lot of us have yards filled with mixed cultivars. I’d like to see what you do to maximize the current grass you have
My vote is give the yard a chance to bounce back with a Spring overseed. If it still struggles through spring and summer, then do a fall reno, but be patient and see what happens.
I came to your channel to look for a video on your rotary scissors i seen you use in another video of yours! and look at this.. u post a video on exactly what i was looking for, haha thank you sir!
Kill the back and seed with a different / more challenging grass type to germinate, 100% KBG 🙂. I recommend a Mazama, Bluebank, and Midnight mix. I renovated 7k sq ft of my lawn with this mix from SeedSuperStore and absolutely love it! Had initial germination on day 4 (which is insane for KBG). The first year was rough with battling weeds... but man it looks amazing now. If you want pictures I have plenty! Most of my areas receive full sun, while a few smaller areas are more shady. The full sun and shady areas are doing great 2 years later.
My string trimmer, Husqvarna 122C gas trimmer, uses the same style of feed system for the string. I actually had to watch a TH-cam video on how to feed the string properly the first time of replacing it. Took me 3 trys to get it balanced right but after using it for 7 years I have it down. So I can appreciate the frustration
I would suggest a full on Reno of the back and front due to the poa and weed grasses. Sometimes once it gets to a certain point it’s too far gone. After the re-seed just keep pulling up the poa by hand as much as possible.
@yardbrah. i did my renovations over last 1.5 yrs. i did my backyard in fall of 2022, and did my front yard in spring of 2022. Backyard, i used the Scotts tall fescue rapid seed in Sept 2022, then overseeded with Ryan Knorr TTTF seed in Spring and Fall of 2023. I pregerminated the seed both times with overseed. Front yard, i used Natures Seed Elite Perennial Rye, reno in Spring 2023, overseeded pregerminated seed in Sept 2023. Now both yards look good. nothing beats using elite seed. So what am i saying? well, you saw with your front, using 1 cultivar looks so much better. just my opinion.
I put holes in my Vinyl fence with my 2 stroke string trimmer and was not happy, have an old manual edger and would be blistered by the time I was done. Bought the Rotary Scissor and never looked back, Electric in the future since the transmission on the walk behind died and broke the deck. Still have a couple inches if snow here so ordering a new Mower and a Sunjoe as the backyard had new landscaping, removed the pool so now the lawn needs a makeover this year. I say you should drop the grass in the back and redo it with the same seed as you did the front.
Dont kill it off! It's thin but salvageable. My front lawn looked way worse and i did a reno with over seed and its beautiful now. Plus i had major crabgrass and goose grass which were thriving in my front yard. Now if it doesnt work you could reseed in the fall (to scratch your itch) or next spring. Cant you just over seed with the Fireball/Hat trick and choke out the other cultivars. Just my 2 cents.
😂 literally asking myself the same question this weekend. Do i burn it down or do I overseed and go full salad bar and hope for the best. My vote for the back lawn is overseed.
Hahaha 😂 “My neighbors yard is looking so good. It’s dying so nice.” I tried explaining this exact process to my wife when she felt like I was killing our lawn only to make it grow back thicker and stronger. 8:31
Can you switch the head on that trimmer? Like the Echo head. Line up the holes and feed thru and twist to wind it up. I don't use a table. I use my tailgate on my pickup! 😂
What do you suggest with a back yard that doesn’t drain off well and gets mossy so much ? I haven’t stuck to a strict iron diet or used mossex or anything like that. Not sure if I should use the Twin City Tuff Turf or the Obsidian lmk please.
I’m watching, I’m waiting to see how your neighbor’s lawn turns out. I put my friends on to your channel for tips and tricks but one of them thinks it’s not good to follow your tips cause you already have a nice lawn.😂
Show them this video th-cam.com/video/FSp29MnZQJk/w-d-xo.htmlsi=-9vs8yLp3elTm_wA and go to 17 minutes and 22 seconds Also…. so they are saying listen to someone with a bad lawn… so the blind leading the blind? Sounds like you need a new smarter circle of friends there bud 😂😂😂🤙🏾
@@YardBrah 😂 Well the friend that said that just started his lawn last year and he used that Sunday fertilizer kit, he lawn is doing good but he’s the rookie of our circle. But like I said I’m watching!
I told them that you you said your lawn didn’t start like that in the video where you started you neighbor’s lawn, do you have a video where you started from scratch?
Should be able to wind the string up make sure all the wholes line up then put the string in the wholes and twist it up, I vote for salad bar it will come back, also you might have a grub problem as well
It looked like you wrapped the line in opposite directions around the spool. The line needs to be wrapped in the same direction on both halves 👍 Also work with what you have in the back, people who are just learning will benefit 🍻
Any tips if starting the lawn care late. I’m in az and have poa in my Bermuda. What product can I apply that won’t kill Bermuda and then help the Bermuda flourish.
.... you should put pre emergent down in spring before soil temps reach 55° if it's over you might have to wait cause the product won't work as well.... for poa try the budget ETHOFUMESATE ( www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&opi=89978449&url=chemicalwarehouse.com/products/ethos-4sc&ved=2ahUKEwjznZXYm4-FAxVpKkQIHRoLCgAQFnoECBgQAQ&usg=AOvVaw0FITQgDQppVY16C8IiRooH ) it's pretty much the same as prograss EC and is safe for overseeded Bermuda read the label to make sure it's def safe for Bermuda ☺🤙🏾
For the longest time I used the iPhone 12 Pro Max... all the crispy footage you see is either canon eos r and last season canon r8... this season for ease of files transfers and almost daily content I'm rocking iPhone 15 pro max... saves me so much space and works so much better with 4k 60fps 😅😂🤙🏾
Dont lose ur patience brah!!😅😅let ur backyard recover. U walk on it alot and make it a hi traffic area. I say leave it! But if u are gonna kill it, i recommend the kentucky 31. The back back looks great!! And it would match. I am buried in snow over here in colorado and cant do squat! Lay down some granular preemergent to help with those weeds brah!!🤙🏽🤙🏽
I used the cheap stuff from Oregon, KENTUCKY 31 nice thing it has 0 weed seeds! amzn.to/3PA9phu if you want the good stuff TTTF thelawnlife.com has elite fescue varieties I will be testing this season! ☺🤙🏾
Try a lighter gauge trimmer line. I have a Greenworks corded trimmer/edger. Came with .0065 and broke off during use way too often. Tried a heavier .095 and it wouldn't spool on...lots of swearing.🤬 The .0065 line is way too light. I should try baling wire. 🤪
Yo yardbrah, should I remove acorns from my soil before adding topsoil and planting new grass, or is it okay to leave them and cover them with topsoil?
I would vote to not kill off the backyard. Use it as a comparison between the advantages/disadvantages of killing off compared to just overseeding. You killed off the front yard of your neighbour's place so you have an immediate comparison between a multi seed yard (backyard) to compare the look to a killed off lawn.
Isn’t the appearance of the back down to what you’ve put on it? I vote wait a couple of weeks and renovate with whatever copes best with your sun/shade situation 🤷♂️
You don't mention what you sprayed. Busted out the Pro-Grass? Regarding the poll: Don't kill it off. It's still winter. It's gonna thrive in summer. It's a marathon, not a sprint!
Brah imma need a link to that Grease bro
I got you brotha www.maruyamaparts.com/840994S-EXTREME-PRESSURE-GREASE.html 😊🤙🏾
Fellow PNW lawn care nut… while I’d enjoy a full backyard reno, I think a lot of us have yards filled with mixed cultivars. I’d like to see what you do to maximize the current grass you have
I mean I’ve been doing that in the front lawn for years you know 😂 but again this is a a vote I gotta tally it all up 😂🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🤙🏾
My vote is to keep it and repair. I’d like to learn some methods on fixing junk grass without murdering it and starting over. Thanks
I vote for trying to salvage it without killing it all off. It would be good experience to learn to fix it without wiping out and starting over
My vote is give the yard a chance to bounce back with a Spring overseed. If it still struggles through spring and summer, then do a fall reno, but be patient and see what happens.
As much as I would love to see the full reno, I have to agree I would like to see you add to it like a majority of us have to do.
Scalp, scarify, aerate, and overseed the hell out of it!!
Use what you have to help protect the new seed.
I came to your channel to look for a video on your rotary scissors i seen you use in another video of yours! and look at this.. u post a video on exactly what i was looking for, haha thank you sir!
Voting for chill, overseed with some elite cultivar, and stack the salad bar.
If it flops or turns out spotty...full renovate in the fall.
The full sun and shady areas are doing great 2 years later.
I'd like to see ya renovate the back with KBG. You have a rye section, fescue section, bent grass section, now ya need a KBG section.
My string trimmer, Husqvarna 122C gas trimmer, uses the same style of feed system for the string. I actually had to watch a TH-cam video on how to feed the string properly the first time of replacing it. Took me 3 trys to get it balanced right but after using it for 7 years I have it down. I vote for a full reno. Should be good content and I'm redoing my backyard this year too. Might pickup a few tips
You know darn well we are all gonna say kill it! Can’t wait to see the back reno!
😂😂😂🤙🏾
I would suggest a full on Reno of the back and front due to the poa and weed grasses. Sometimes once it gets to a certain point it’s too far gone. After the re-seed just keep pulling up the poa by hand as much as possible.
fresh start on the backyard.
11:36 Kill it all. Wish it looked like the front yard 👍🏾💪🏾💪🏾🤟🏾🤟🏾
Yeah really want it to be one grass type TBH 😩😂🤙🏾
Hat trick & Fire ball the whole back🤙🏽
Kill and full reno. All Hatrick and Fireball if possible, because that collar to the green looks so much better than the rest of the back.
Reno the back, let's go!
🔥🔥🔥😂🤙🏾
@yardbrah. i did my renovations over last 1.5 yrs. i did my backyard in fall of 2022, and did my front yard in spring of 2022.

Nice work! Yeah totally agree one grass type looks crazy good 😩😂🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🤙🏾
I say, wait, you have too many projects going right now. The new boots looking good!
We got a ton of projects for sure 😂😂😂🙏🏾🤙🏾
Oversees the salad bar. I'm going to be trying the same thing in a section myself.
Kill it off brah!! I’m going to be doing that to my front lawn. I’ll follow your methods for my reno.
I put holes in my Vinyl fence with my 2 stroke string trimmer and was not happy, have an old manual edger and would be blistered by the time I was done. Dethatch and overseed the back. 🤙🏽🤙🏽🤙🏽

My vote for the back lawn is overseed.
I say dethatch then over seed. The backyard looks good, it has a that dark green color to it.
You have got to let us know how that velocity pm works if you get your hands on some! Poa is the enemy!
New boot goofin. Cracks me up every time
Reno with some KBG section 🔥🔥
16:28 you can’t beat the EGO line IQ
"I find your personality to be very entertaining." ❤ love your channel!
Thank you for the support and thanks for tuning in! 😊🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🤙🏾
Reno the back, perfect for content lol
I need to get one of those. Will help with my edging a lot.
Kill it off - and compare the 2 projects together; i.e. neighbors Reno! 🤙🏻 Good Luck brother 👍🏻
Hahaha 😂 “My neighbors yard is looking so good. It’s dying so nice.” I tried explaining this exact process to my wife when she felt like I was killing our lawn only to make it grow back thicker and stronger. 8:31
Renovation!!!! It will be great content.
When do you use your regular mower compared to your reel mower? I'm thinking about getting one, but I want to know if I should
Can you switch the head on that trimmer? Like the Echo head. Line up the holes and feed thru and twist to wind it up. I don't use a table. I use my tailgate on my pickup! 😂
Verticut and overseed the back, wont get rid of the poa always 😅
I think its best to do some sort of edging across the fence as when you go over with the mower it cuts everything and now and then do some strimming.
What do you suggest with a back yard that doesn’t drain off well and gets mossy so much ? I haven’t stuck to a strict iron diet or used mossex or anything like that. Not sure if I should use the Twin City Tuff Turf or the Obsidian lmk please.
Just wondering if we can get what your lawn schedule. So I can follow that too🤙🤙🤙🤙
I need to buy the rotary scissors too, im tired of string trimming around hard areas lol

U know u want 2 do lawn 2.0 on back- slang some black out elite turf type tall fescue and The elite Kentucky bluegrass. And both bags down 50 pounds😂
Full on reno in the back! 😅
Thanks!
Thank you my friend 😊🙏🏾🤙🏾
Overseed is my vote. PR heavy. KBG is too clumpy for my taste. Plus, it just improves, faster than starting over.
One like one kill off!
Nooo freaking way, I was going to ask to put some Borats accent on your video and there it is. Very nice, please to meet you!
It sneaks out sometimes 😂😂😂🤙🏾
Should be able to wind the string up make sure all the wholes line up then put the string in the wholes and twist it up, I vote for salad bar it will come back, also you might have a grub problem as well
Full Reno for the gram!
Make a full putting green in the back complete with windmill obstacles 😂
It looked like you wrapped the line in opposite directions around the spool. The line needs to be wrapped in the same direction on both halves 👍
Also work with what you have in the back, people who are just learning will benefit 🍻
Yarbrough I have a problem I'm not sure if I should overseed or put down pre-emergent
You can overseed and use tenacity on cool season grass my dude same time ☺🤙🏾

Let's chill
As we say in Texas smoke that grass in the back….brah
I’d say start over on the backyard, that would be some interesting content
reno backyard +1
Spray it Brah, do turf type tall fescue titanium and real mow! Hahahaaa
Why did you switch the EGO to the Wild Badger pole connection for the scissor cutter? Was something not working with the EGO connection?
I put the rotary scissor on the wild badger the ego one is fine it's gonna get a new one in a couple weeks ☺🤙🏾

Def remove them acorns can change ph levels etc you have to add lime etc much easier if you start clean ☺️🤙🏾
Dethatch the hell out of the back and do a thick overseed.
I hear you can use the grease from lechon kuwali. 😎🤙🏽
😂😂😂😂😂🤙🏾
I tried the same thing with Ryobi but felt it didn’t have enough power so I went back to Ego.
I love the ego for sure... but this wild badger is hitting all the right spots 😂🤙🏾
Reno the back like an Instagram Model with a BBL.
Googles BBL... spits out coffee 😂😂😂🤙🏾
Wait and overseed
Kill it! Join in on my 6 week Reno coming up in a couple weeks!!!
So really it’s just the power attachments and not the power head?
Start fresh again you'll enjoy it by June, July

Salad bar, show me how good a salad bar can look then kill it later when you need more content
Might as well spray and overseed! Get yourself some fancy cultivars.
You don't mention what you sprayed. Busted out the Pro-Grass?
Regarding the poll: Don't kill it off. It's still winter. It's gonna thrive in summer. It's a marathon, not a sprint!
No killing please. Sand, sand and sand - then your choice of s33d (; keep on going brah! Thx! 🤙🏻
Yeah, kill the back and overseed! Make it it look really nice like the front.
Backyard reno for content
Wait, and overseed.
I say full renovation and go with something different. I really wish you could grow bermuda up there.
OMG I wish I could grow Bermuda... that would be so epic 😩😂🤙🏾
Yo
Why are there so many cars parked on the dead end side street?
Apparently everyone thinks the alley is parking for when they have parties 😂🤙🏾
Overseed backyard will take way to long to kill and regrow
Yes kill the grass in the back yard and replace it with "Blue Gem Kentucky Bluegrass."
