      @@kylerobison8392 Yeah that was basically in line with what I saw at Notre Dame. He was not a reliable man coverage defender against wide receivers (just tight ends), so that clip was nothing new to me. There's a reason I didn't have him in the first round in my mock (and then people lost their minds about it). I just couldn't find a team that needed his specialized role that badly within the top 32 picks. Still should be a good player, just within his narrower role.

    I was also much, much lower on Kyle Hamilton than others. If anyone can figure out the perfect way to use him it is the Ravens, but I just think his style doesn't fit the NFL that well. He reminds me a little bit of Isaiah Simmons. Sometimes those guys who are kind of between two different positions in how they're built and how they move can work out beautifully, I think of Micah Parsons and his middle linebacker/edge rusher talents, but a lot of other times it just doesn't work out because you can't master the position that your team needs from you. He's just not quick, he's stiff, doesn't flip his hips well, not great in man coverage, etc. He's also not a bruiser inside. So I wonder how it's gonna go, but I believe in his commitment and again the Ravens are a great team to be able to figure it out with him. We will see but I'm not optimistic. I would've taken Nick Cross before Kyle Hamilton, no joke.

    Hey Brett, great work as always on the video ! I was wondering why Woolen is in the "niche" category. In my eyes he is more a raw prospect with great physical traits : so not really a role player but more a guy that needs to develop to be all around player. Also what where you thoughts on Bryant ? He seems to have a great camp and won the CB award last year, yet he fell to the 4th round.

  • @jakethornton4856
    @jakethornton4856 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    My biggest issue with Kyle Hamilton is just he value of taking him before the 20th pick in the draft. I just feel safeties just don't have the value to be drafted higher in the first round. I think they have more value than running backs but safety is one of the easiest positions to use role players in and I would rather moneyball that position than use a high pick or lots of cap space. I really disagreed with the Seahawks trading for Jamal Adams even tho I think he is a great player I thought the Seahawks just overreacted to cover up their mistakes on the roster. I like Cine where he was drafted a lot more and think he has more value as a safety than Hamilton has but one of my other issues is the one that happened with Adams is when u have a safety that is really good the team is often forced into giving them a top of the market deal(Jesse Bates current situation) and I just dont like giving a safety lots of money when there are teams getting really good starters right now for 3 million dollars. Idk if teams take into account the value of whatever contract they would have to give that player when they resign him when they draft a player (for example Ezekiel Elliot) but I think it should matter when you are drafting a player at a position where it would be against the teams interest to pay them a top of the market deal.

    • @spiderwebb222
      @spiderwebb222 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The thing is, safeties are inevitably not going to be involved in every play, especially free safeties. Of course they can potentially save a touchdown, make a pick at a crucial time, but play to play they're not as involved as the defensive line or corners. D-linemen, especially edge rushers, can impact every play AND also make the big splash plays (strip sacks, 3rd down sacks etc). Corners can allow you to change your entire defensive scheme if they're good enough to hold up 1 on 1. Those aspects are just always going to be more valuable.

    • @t4d0W
      @t4d0W 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It really depends on the defensive coaching philosophy and scheme. Pats have been getting loads of mileage off their safety depth as intermediate coverage guys to make up for not having that kind of player as a linebacker so far. And we've seen some safety prospects in recent years that convert as coverage linebackers as they are good enough to play vs the run. Personally though if it was any other team other than the Ravens before the top 20, I would have questioned them taking Kyle Hamilton.

    • @jakethornton4856
      @jakethornton4856 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@t4d0W yeah but the pats wernt giving those players top of the market deals or using high picks on them. I really like Kyle Duggar but he was the 37th pick not a top 20 pick. I know its not a huge difference in the scheme of things but just not having to pay a safety a 5th year option is a benefit of that
