My mum suffered from dementia as well but when listening to Nat King Cole it gave her a big smile. She remembered his songs so well. I often play this for her even she is in heaven but I know deep in my hearts she smiles .

Blimey! I'm so sorry for your loss. My mom died in Feb 2021. Couldn't travel to say goodbye. But she used to have this little yellow suitcase. So when I see one I think of her fondly. So have a bouquet of yellow suitcases as a symbol of unconditional ❤!
Nat King Cole was my mom's favorite singer. She said he had a "velvet voice" We traveled to San Francisco once a week to visit my grandma and sang to the radio all the way over. I enjoyed singing along with this morning's selection, Joe, remembering every word even though I haven't sung it in decades :-)

Hello good day! Since 1958 I am an avid fan of nat king cole. I admire his songs so much that even until now i am 77 year's old i still listen to his wonderful songs. My illness and having difficulty walking doesn't hinder me from tuning to his songs everyday, i can't ask for anything more than that a picture of nat king cole with dedication. I hope someone can read this and let to his family!

I work in an orthopaedic ward and had loads of elderly patient, with dementia or confused, every time they where confuse or sad, I just put this music on particularly Nat King Cole, as my mum & dad left early in this world and this is their favourite music.I treat my pt.like mum and dad like they were still around.😘

My earliest recollection of music as a child was hearing this man’s voice coming from my mother’s phonograph singing “Nature Boy.” I was too young back then to know that I was listening to the sound of greatness. In my teen years as a student musician, I started listening to ‘King’ Cole’s work with his incomparable Trio in the 1940s as a means of better understanding the jazz idiom. It was then I fully understood what a giant of music he was and always will be. Regrettably, it was not too long after that that lung cancer took him from us. I never had the opportunity to hear him perform live, but my mother did, twice. Seeing Nat Cole live had a profound effect on her appreciation of good music, which obviously rubbed off on me. 😀
Smoking tobacco and being in smoke filled rooms took it's toll on a number of entertainers. Smoking was in every movie. It was the cool thing to do. I think three of the Marlboro men died of lung cancer. A fourth from related tobacco issues.
As a youngster as I listened to NKC on 8 track, still remember hearing the clicks as it went from song to song. I knew I was listening to something amazing I just could not put words to it. A tear comes to my eyes as these were the quiet moments, happy times amidst a lot of chaos at home. I get to play these songs on the piano now. Thanks for sharing your story.

Let's not forget Sarah Vaughan and Billy Ekstine (and many more really...a golden age of talent; altho Swifties' would think the same of this generation, I'm sure.BTW: we're lucky to have that gem of a movie- "Cat Ballou"- which came out about the same time as NKC left us... a feast of talent and laughs!

every time they where confuse or sad, I just put this music on particularly Nat King Cole, as my mum & dad left early in this world and this is their favourite music.I treat my pt.like mum and dad like they were still around.😘

My earliest recollection of music as a child was hearing this man’s voice coming from my mother’s phonograph singing “Nature Boy.” I was too young back then to know that I was listening to the sound of greatness. In my teen years as a student musician, I started listening to ‘King’ Cole’s work with his incomparable Trio in the 1940s as a means of better understanding the jazz idiom. It was then I fully understood what a giant of music he was and always will be. Regrettably, it was not too long after that that lung cancer took him from us.
I never had the opportunity to hear him perform live, but my mother did, twice. Seeing Nat Cole live had a profound effect on her appreciation of good music, which obviously rubbed off on me. 😀
Smoking tobacco and being in smoke filled rooms took it's toll on a number of entertainers. Smoking was in every movie. It was the cool thing to do. I think three of the Marlboro men died of lung cancer. A fourth from related tobacco issues.

As a youngster as I listened to NKC on 8 track, still remember hearing the clicks as it went from song to song. I knew I was listening to something amazing I just could not put words to it. A tear comes to my eyes as these were the quiet moments, happy times amidst a lot of chaos at home. I get to play these songs on the piano now. Thanks for sharing your story.

My parents played Nat King Cole when I was a child and I remember every single song. Now I am in my 60s and is playing the songs for my grandchildren and hope they remember these songs when I am gone.
