This video is SO Sibelius! 300 clicks for your first note. :)

I'm really curious why people PAY for this sorry excuse of a programme when MuseScore is litteraly avaliable for free ...

@@authenticbaguette6673 I have used both, and find Sibelius easier to use, not to mention more powerful.

@@authenticbaguette6673 Sibelius is actually much better for composing at a high level, but it's learning curve is crazy

@@JesusMowsMaLawn As someone who has spent years with Sibelius, MuseScore and Finale, I'd like to respectfully disagree. Sibelius is genuinely horrible. Finale is is also for masochists. MuseScore has improved so much I can't believe it. I'm working as a composer now and I still prefer to compose using MuseScore (but later format in Finale). MuseScore 4 is coming out soon and it's going to be awesome.

Can I ask a question? I'm having trouble understanding what kind of parts to assign to players who are providing accompaniment. My accompaniment figures tend to be a bit boring and random, just held notes with occasional passing tones. After writing the melody and bass-line, I don't know what to write for the middle parts (assuming that the middle parts are the ones accompanying).
Do you usually just start with a general idea of what kind of harmony (melody + block chords) you want in the accompaniment, and then just try out what kind of embellishments and rhythmic figurations would fit the melody, or do you have a clear idea from the very beginning of what kind of rhythmic and melodic activity you are going to write in the accompaniment? Cheers

That’s a good question...I’d say any section of the piece is a balance between harmony and melody but the balance is weighted towards melody. There might be sections that are more focussed on harmonic progressions with some kind of rhythmic figure or counterpoint to add interest. Hope that helps?

The phrase in bar 2 sounds very similar to Mozart's string quintet in G minor.

Yes! Such a great work (Mozart’s quintet!) and a huge inspiration. The bar needs to stay on g minor and reach the note d. So I could have written quavers g, a, bb, c from 3rd beat of b1 then quaver c#, d, d in this bar, then continue as written...Or something...but wanted to reference the quintet.

    It was really helpful!!
But do consider recording system audio rather the speaker's...

Yes I need to improve my recording set up. Any tips/advice on tech would be gratefully received

@@HowtoCompose Try getting an audio interface. Or set up your DAW so it can capture playback from your machine AND from your mic. It'll improve your videos a lot. Your videos are really great btw!

I just found your channel here last night. I am seeking a writing tool. May I ask what software you are using. Thank You for your good work.

Thanks for asking. I’m using Sibelius which you need to pay for. There are free tools like Musescore which are worth looking into too.

This is Sibelius. Just be careful if you pick it up, it'll take you about a week to compose your first bar of music lol
