dude, do you know the rabbit hole you have to blaze to find this video? The themes vs page builder decision is all important for newbs with grand ambitions. many thanks!
Great Video Jack. I got Kadence a month ago because of you. Nice to see Kadence and Gutenberg are still the fastest. It doesn't matter to me but I would hate to see Google mess with the ranking of this video - you may want to change the end of the video title from Did Gutenberg Just Lost?! to Did Gutenberg Just Lose? Keep the great videos coming!
As someone who knows the WP platform well, but is looking to establish their own site and business, this is extremely helpful. Thank you! You have a new subscriber.
Bricks Builder comes with an integrated theme so you don’t have to worry about which theme to use. It also works well with Gutenberg. They can be used interchangeably on your website. And Bricks is built for the non-coder unlike Oxygen. I bet Bricks as development continues will become the dominant page builder which can create websites as fast as those using Gutenberg. In a way, it is the Kadence theme on steroids or the DIVI theme on steroids.
I have oxygen, kadence pro membership, livecanvas and a bunch more stuff. Best thing I love about oxygen is templating, dynamic fields with acf and css grid. There is a thing you didnt mention about the builders tho; most of them show the content via shortcode except for livecanvas. So the pages you made will still work if you disable livecanvas but not in other builders.
Great video, Jack! I like that you're very open mind about what's best for WordPress building. It's really great to see WP grow stronger especially with the arrival of new tools. Thank's for your insight!

Hi Jack, would you please clarify- you are testing for desktop and not mobile in this video, correct? And in the old school page builders video , as well? Also, is this a shared hosting plan on Siteground? Thanks so much for your efforts!
Hi Lily, all the tests done were for Mobile. Nowadays, there is no point in testing desktop because they will usually get a 90+ score if your mobile is well optimized. And as for the host, yes, it is on SiteGround's shared hosting plan (GoGeek).
Thanks Jack! Great video really appreciate the great effort you put into this video. All that I can say at this point DOES ANYONE OUT THERE WISH TO PURCHASE A BRIZY LIFETIME LICENSE! Really disappointed in the Brizy Team had high hopes but been hanging on for 2 years now to no avail.
Would be great to include "Zion" page builder in the next episode. Also "Bricks" is currently working on remove the jQuery (~30 KB) dependency, and also in reduce Drastically the CSS file size by generating it dynamically, just like GenerateBlocks. So, for the Next Round "Bricks" could give us some Loading Time surprises.

@@JackCao, it seems like quite a few people who follow the website builders looking for reviews and tutorials have purchased MetaBox on AppSumo. Maybe a restaurant site using Bricks & MetaBox to build the site and menu? or a salon and price menu? Thanks for your time!
Very interesting Jack and thank you for the detail. I wonder why you used the Kadence theme for the Gutenberg example when I believe that Neve is smaller and lighter? (Or am I mistaken) Also, as a beginner, what I haven't really got my head around is the demarcation line between Theme and Blocks. What does each bring and what do you keep or loose if you switch theme..... or if you have designed your layout what would a reason be to change theme?
Kadence Theme is ranked #2 on my other test on Themes: th-cam.com/video/7ILIodysmzc/w-d-xo.html Neve is ranked #3, that's why I chose to install Kadence instead. As for Themes and Blocks, what you need to understand is that the theme will take control of the main layouts of your page, for example, the header, footer, sidebar, before content area, and after content area. The blocks are mainly used on the content area of the page. And depending on your theme, you can use hook elements to display gutenberg blocks on certain areas controlled by the theme. I hope this is easy to understand. So essentially, if you switch themes, the content on your site will not change. Things you styled with the Gutenberg blocks will remain, but all the theme settings will be gone.
Great video! I want to change my website from elementor to Gutenberg to increase loading speed and reduce bloat. My question is, am I better off using Gutenberg with Kadence blocks only vs Gutenberg and Kadence theme + Kadence Gutenberg Blocks? Thank you for helping!
Do not use the Gutenberg plugin on your website, it is more for test sites. Generally, when the blocks from the Gutenberg plugin becomes bug free, they will be integrated with the core wordpress block editor.
Interesting. Will certainly compare that with Gutenberg. Now I have "Zion Builder" and "Flatsome + UXblock" in the list for the next batch of testing. Do you happen to know any other page builders that have not been tested by me?
@@JackCao no just flatsome, is the one that I used (dulcesalud.cl). And after I saw all your videos I am thinking to move to kadence (membership) or livecanvas.
I'm already using Gutenberg and was thinking of switching to webflow. I'm just warry of the plugin issues in WordPress along with the constant attacks. I haven't had any issue with that because I keep everything up to date. Can I do dynamic content with Gutenberg? Thanks for an excellent video!!! 😀
Great job and I appreciate all the work you put into this. I'm curious though -- this is for page builders, but what about theme builders? The main reason I don't use only Gutenberg with Kadence is because I'm not able to create page/post templates for my Custom Post Types or special archives. Kadence theme doesn't provide enough customization there, not like Oxygen or Elementor Pro with their super robust theme builders. So, if you have a suggestion on the best theme builders that work with Gutenberg that would be interesting to see. From my perspective, Oxygen seems to work best with Gutenberg because you can use it to create a lightweight custom theme using a visual builder, and still use Oxygen/Kadence/GetWid for all the content and layouts on the main parts of the page. But, that is just based on my limited experience. :-). Thanks again for your awesome video!
Actually you can with either Generatepress or Kadence. If you have custom post type/archives, you can use "Hooked elements" to display any unique layouts before the content area, you can even replace your sidebar using Hooked Elements. I think whatever that can be achieved with Oxygen/Bricks/Elementor, is achievable with Gutenberg. Do you have an example where I can build a tutorial around?
@@JackCao Hmm ... an example? Well, how about a website for a gym directory where the CTP/ACF lets you input information about the gym (hours, location, owner, phone, cost, classes, etc.) and you want that information to be dynamically presented in a post type called "gym"? And then also have a listing of gyms in an archive post template that includes some of that custom field data? That's just off the top of my head, so if you have a better idea please feel free to change it. :-) Thanks for the reply! 非常感谢!:-)
@@JackCao Even with Kadence hooked elements, there are still a few things that page builders can do that even Gutenberg with Kadence Pro cannot. In my case, Elementor lets you insert 'post content' and 'WP comments' within the template. This allows a full-with template with a sidebar that only goes down part way before the elements change to full-width. Gutenberg has a post content block... but Kadence hooks does not let you "Replace Pages/Posts/Archives/CPT" - yet (and unsure if it's being planned.) Nor is there is (yet) a 'WP comments' block that I can find that could be placed in a hooked element. Some of this *might* be coming when WP finally introduces FSE... but at present, the only solutions require coding, child themes, and tricky workaround. It feels like we're getting there... but for anyone leaving Elementor now - it's still lacking & frustrating.
