Irwin High has been doing great. However I am displeased with the fact that they sang the Montego Bay Community College (MBCC) Choir' s Dancehall arrangement during last week's competition WITHOUT their permission. Although the arrangement was not copyrighted , it is unsportsmanlike to do that and voters should keep that in mind going forward. The MBCC choir performed the Dancehall Medley at the 2018 JCDC Music Festival Finals and won the national award for best class 5 C Jamaican Popular Music piece. Students spent time pairing together a variety of popular dancehall songs into a dynamic choral arrangement. As musicians we should be respectful of each other's craft and avoid BLATANT plaigerism as seen by Irwin's performance. It is even more disheartening to know that both schools are from the same parish and have been supportive of each other throughout the years but the Irwin High school failed to FORMALLY contact the MBCC to use the arrangement. Additionally, they have tried to quell the situation through a plethora of lies. Be honest and do better!
