Interesting topic. I've met some expats in this category, teaching English in S. Korea and China. Finding a new life and new friends in those places. I'm close with my siblings, but I'm also the freak who doesn't live the normy lifestyle, and it's not always easy to find people to talk with who can relate. So in a way I feel estranged from that kind of life. This is one reason actually why I like TH-cam and started my own channel lol...
@@EasternDreamer615 Thanks for asking. I was just thinking to start a travel vlog, but also give people ideas for how they can escape the high cost of living and live overseas. Kind of like Vagabond Awake. I'll definitely cover topics that interest me, such as cost of living, seasonal work, escaping the matrix, teaching esl, language learning, hiking, travel. But overall I think the channel will be about living an unconventional, alternative lifestyle. Maybe some social commentary as well, and criticism of US establishment politics and foreign policy. As of now though, I'm still figuring things out, so we'll see! Lol...I like your style of videos, so I plan to do something similar too
I've noticed a lot of my fellow expat friends also came from really toxic family environments (including myself). I don't think people fully understand how hard it is to live a normal life when you have those family members nearby. Sometimes moving abroad is the only option people have. It's funny because I see a ton of hate directed towards expats online, and a ton of hate directed towards people that cut ties with toxic family, and both are rooted in people not understanding how bad things can be when you look past surface level assumptions.
The average American male no matter what age no matter how rich or how poor lives like a castrated caged animal 💯💯💯 it's a loneliness kinda world in the USA. I spent the last two years in south America and I never felt lonely once. As a human being in general it's a better kind of life overseas
Great video. My family back in the states consisted of three children. They all lived either in different cities or different states. So most of our contact was a phone call. So living in the Philippines didn’t really make any difference to them. So I moved abroad for financial reasons and relationship reasons. I was single and lonely in the USA for many many years. Now I have a little family and I’m very happy.
Im 36 years old living the same day over and over again where i live, most of my friends and family have moved and are busy with their lives so i barely see anyone anymore. I get about 1200 dollars a month right now and have around 10k in savings. Been thinking of moving abroad for a few years but there was always an excuse but now with the new year around the corner and my existential crisis not getting any better im getting on that plane to PH, there is no guarantee it will be a success but staying here is like suffocating and i really got nothing left to lose by trying.
I really enjoyed this Vlog. You spoke to how I am feeling myself. Might not be for everyone however I like keeping it "real" so these are good from time to time. Would make good one to one conversations in person.
I wonder if the element of minimalism plays some sort of small or large part in the emotional freedom and mental health resulting from of a fresh start abroad?
Many times estrangement is in fact LIBERATION. Under no circumstances does anyone have to accept abusive relationships just because there is blood involved. Do your best to love everyone, but if anyone, including relatives, treats you less than in a great way, you are under no obligation to spend another second with them. But there is no requirement to expat to avoid them. Even if you are in the next block or next city, there is no reason to spend time with them; they can't force you. More to the point, sometimes to find more happiness in life, another country is an avenue for people to find a happier existence simply because they find the culture in the new country to be more accepting, less judgmental, less toxic, more free in many ways.
I am an expat but not estranged from my family. I am estranged from my birth country. It was never unusual for me to be on the other side of the country, or in another country, in the past. My Sister is the only family member that I have left so there aren't a lot of people trying to pull me back. Family isn't the only reason that people choose the expat life.
One (of many) challenges of being estranged from family is the huge stigma you face in western countries and this can make it really hard to build romantic relationships, as many potential partners will be judgmental of you being estranged. However, I've heard that women in SEA are not particularly curious, so estrangement is easy to hide so you don't have to deal with the stigma you'd have to deal with in your home country.
it's unfortunate that moving half way around the planet is the maximum distance that one can create. I mean it sounds like half-hearted, or half-assed, yet half way around is the furthest away.
You are agitating the oil/water mixture and are not put off by this discussion but beware that the possible spillage from such events may cause negative responses. Thanks for providing this forum!
Ive lived in 9 countries and am also estranged from my family but frankly, I see absolutely no connection between the two. In fact, when people talk to me about becoming an expat, I always tell them to go for it UNLESS they are trying to get away from politics, solve finsncial mistakes or (and this is the biggest one) running away from family. Look, you don't have to leave the country to get away from toxic family. You can do that by moving three blocks away. If your brother or cousin or father can't get the hint, just give him a good smack in the mouth. They'll get the point. The ONLY intelligent reason to go live in another country is for the love of the country you're moving to. Anything else is just running away from your own deficiencies. The one promise I can make is that your problems and weaknesses will always be your closest travelling companions. They may not join you on the same flight, but they will definately show up to join you sooner or later.

Moving to a new city is always such an interesting opportunity to completely recreate ourselves
I absolutely agree walker :)
Cool video-most of us have left our negative family members in the 🇺🇸 for good!
All the best Barry! :)
That's a peculiarly US-centric viewpoint. Not everyone is American. There are many expats from many countries. Personally, I'm an expat in the USA.
I really relate to this video, I think if I hadn't left my native country and toxic family, I would be dead by now.
I need to leave too, I can’t do this
Very thought-provoking video, I can't relate! Thank you!
Thanks so much, I'm glad you can't relate!

Great video, very candid and correct about existing conditions.
Thanks so much Joe :)

You have a wonderful family Monty :)
Yes. Without always being on the defensive, you can experiment, learn more about yourself and grow.
These are great points!
Really mature and insightful. Proud of how far you have come since you started the channel 💚
Thank you so much for your friendship, your kind words, your insight, and your support for many years Hoss. :) I hope your autumn is going well!
Yes.
Although, I come from a healthy family and support me. I’m relocating for social and economical reasons.
Where are you headed? :)
Zenni sells prescription sunglasses for around ten bucks.
Seriously. You need those.
Thanks for watching!
@@MakeTheRules2 Whatever keeps people's attention hahaha maybe one of these days I'll do a video in a clown suit!
Doggy daycare in LA is $40 - $50 a day. Average of $225 a week! It’s ridiculous!!!
That pricing is ridiculous!
Why would you take your kids to a DODGY daycare😂😂😂😂

Probably this weekend :)
