While he quoted other books for a list of effects, I’ve long thought the Professor was actually recalling the list in 1905’s Novel Notions by Robertson Keene, an often overlooked book. On page 13 Keene lists six effects, the fifth of which is “A defiance of natural laws.” I believe the cup measuring effect best fits in this category, as does the floating lady. I love your magic. It’s basically the same affect when Al goshman or shoot ohawa take a jumbo coin out of a purse frame. Or when you take a coat hanger out of an invisible purse frame. It’s the effective fitting a larger object into a smaller one. It’s the same affect as taking a coin out of a pen cap
