I haven't watched the show I've just watched reviews because honestly they've been quite entertaining. Probably more worth my time than the show itself is.
Leslie said a lot of the show is based on her High School fanfiction. I can believe that as the plot and dialogue come off like they are the unedited first draft of someone's high school fan flick.
She never published that so-called fan fiction, she said it was before the Internet (late '90s). I wouldn't be surprised if it doesn't exist, and she is going off other people's FF.
Pretty sure she took her binder that had the fanfic in it and they just took it without changing it at all. This show was clearly made by someone with no understanding of Star Wars, characters or anything concerning story. If this is supposed to be peak Jedi’s, why is one force user able to kill a dozen Jedi with little to no effort? Why not just use 2 Jedi and some troopers or something like that?
Even High School fanfiction can be more engaging, immersive and relatable than this absolute abomination piece of thrash. Not only the creator's perspective is out of norm, the entire piece of thrash is completely a mess and confused that it literally make the villains the protagonist.
Wait, wait, she actually *said* that?! Like, I've heard the jokes about the show's story and writing, saying it's like bad fanfiction, but it is actually her fanfic?? Sweet lord. I… I have some stories I wrote as a teen that could be interesting (although probably very derivative if I'm being honest), but never in "over a millenia" would I base anything off the dialogue or story arcs I wrote then, not without major reworking. And never without at least one or two other writers to keep any goofiness in check. And for as long as this was in production, I cannot believe this is the narrative arc and episodic scripts that got approved. Oh, that's right, there were a bunch of reshoots. What did this show look like before reworking and reshooting if this is the "final" product?
Remember when a TV series like "24" or "Star Trek" would release 24 episodes every year, at 43 minutes long each. That's more view time in one season than a streaming series today will give you for 3 seasons over the course of 5 years. (Madalorian, etc.)
While i completely agree, and want more series to just put out more content. The need to put out 24-27 episodes is how we got Beverly Crusher's space harlequin romance episode
The writing of this show should be taught in film school in how not to write a show. The writing is insanely bad and I simply wrote comments on how they could fix it. ( I am not a writer but I wrote stories for fun) So disappointing!
Money laundering? Nobody can't say Lesley hasn't learned anything from Harvey. 😂 I wouldlove to know who else at Disney/Lucasfilm ist filling His or her pockets.
It’s truly shocking how much worse Coruscant looks in the Acolyte compared to the prequel trilogy. It looks like they are cutting corners to save money. In the prequels, they often show wide shots of the Jedi temple at sunset or at night to make the shot look extra dramatic and impressive. And the background is loaded with details. It looks like the capital world of an entire galaxy. In the Acolyte, they show the Jedi temple at day with that hazy background to obscure the details. There’s not nearly as many buildings and there’s 1% of the air traffic as shown in the prequels. I also binge watched Kenobi over the weekend and it’s hard to believe Acolyte had twice the budget as that show.
i feel like the costumes are so overlooked as to why the show lacks any conviction or care , they're going from ice planets to forest planets and dress the exact same for both and their clothes have no wear on them
@@DaNewWaveLee not really. Look at the OT. The costumes were different from Tatooine to Hoth to Bespin to the forest moon of Endor. Now, if you are talking about the Jedi specifically then yeah, the dress code is strong with them 😂 the only difference we see really is either classic robes or battle armour and that is contingent on if there are any wars going on.
@@primal1233 why get mad? The last Star Wars related thing I watched was Rogue One, which was actually good. The second of the trilogy ended it for me. The writing was so bad an non sensical.
I don’t know if this is literally word-for-word true, but I remember hearing this about Disney writers: They know that their audience isn’t really watching. The older people probably just have something on for the hell of it, and the young people are probably on TikTok 50% of the time anyway. Therefore, the story needs to be simultaneously simple enough to be understood when only half watched, and flashy and dramatic enough to draw the ADHD-riddled viewer’s attention for the brief moments that actually do require some investment. That’s why the dialogue is usually half assed, the costumes kinda suck, and characters are only really half-motivated. Only has to make like 25-50% of sense.
It makes sense, but it doesn't forgive it. They're doing it for corporate reasons, yet what they're doing is diluting their product which is going to hurt return investment in the long-run, not to mention cut subscriptions and return viewership.
The funny thing is, I'm willing to bet my right hand that in the early GoT seasons, which was mostly people in rooms with dialogue, dialogue and facial expressions, when someone charismatic like Charles Dance or Peter Dinklage or Lena Headey spoke, everyone had their eyes on the screen. No matter how much the socials have degenerated our attention span, good dialogue and good acting guarantee audience investment, which is why even a gradually deteriorating show like HotD is outperforming Disney hot garbage singlehandedly.
This show is boring bad which is worse than hilariously bad. If it was atleast hilariously bad we could have fun tearing it apart, but nope it’s just boring and doesn’t deserve all of this attention. It should be forgotten like Disneys trilogy.
It sucks that there are people who could make amazing science fiction shows that blow people's minds for probably 1 or 2 million dollars an episode, and certainly for 4 or 5, and yet it is Harvey Weinstein's Ra** Facilitator with like one or two production credits on a couple of shitty sitcoms getting around 23 million an episode to make something on par with Robyn Hood or Batwoman.
Robyn in the Hood was hilarious but of course for all the wrong reasons, like The Room. I had a lot of fun watching others make fun of it. It's full of black stereotypes and cringe, but it was made by a black guy :)))) The police chase the band of robbers in to the hood, get their drones out that gets destroyed in two minutes and say: Aight, we outta here. No backup, no nothing, they leave and don't return 😂 And that's just the first episode.
When did Hollywood/disney get so lazy? I'm not talking about just what they write but a 27 minute short film for an 8 episode season? this is a joke! I just finished my SCP related film this year with almost no budget, and it runs nearly 40 minutes!
it's really not that they got lazy, they started trying to make more money by pandering to a loud portion of audiences on Twitter/X/BlueSky/FB and for some reason, none of the losses they've been having as a result of it, throwing their money down the drain on SEVERAL Marvel and Star Wars products alike the past few years have seemed to persuade investors that "Huh, maybe this isn't a good call afterall"
When AI got used to rewrite a female 'Captain America the First Avenger' and we got captain marvel. They literally have the sane exact back story, just without brie Larson character being sickly and weak, so that's gonna be my guess.
Last night I rewatched "The Phantom Menace" and it was so refreshing. Especially compared to anything we see nowadays. The Acolyte comes off so cheap & tacky.. It's not just the terrible writing & terrible acting. The whole thing is a complete self centered power trip.. It's horrible set design, horrible world building, horrible camera work. It all makes this show feel so small. Like it's filmed in a single green screen room.. Grasping at awful CGI techniques to try and force any bit of a false reality into this mess of a show. It's so far from Legitimate Star wars movies that it feels as if this whole thing is a big parody.. A very expensive parody.. These people have proven they are only capable of writing narcissistic stories that self insert themselves and their own beliefs into anything they do. Even if they get to make something from a pre-existing beloved story, they cannot help themselves. They seem to be incapable of creating artistic creations that stray away from their own personal perspective, instead of showing they can lean heavily into escapism and pure storytelling.. They have proven time and time again that they are not capable of doing anything even remotely close to that.. (which is weird because that should be one of the most important attributes that a director or a developer or an actor has in order to be successful at their job....?) How is there no one that will fire these people who openly hate the fans, hate the consumers who made their success in the first place.. These people who actively act like aggressive victims while also being a million times richer than anyone else. Yes they are the victims.. Poor them.. How can they afford to exist.. Compared to "The Acolyte" If you go back & watch "X-Men the Animated series" It was so well crafted. The story of the struggles of mutants having to deal with humanity was such a universally relatable storyline. Media back then was not afraid to face difficult topics head on. They found really unique ways to abstractly teach people life lessons. They touched on difficult situations & found intelligent ways to convey certain stories. Even when I was all grown up & rewatched it, it really felt like the story is crafted so well & executed at such a high level that anyone is capable of relating to it in someway or another. It's stuff like that, that we are deeply lacking nowadays. So much so that literal kid's cartoons from the 90's told deeper and more mature stories than most media nowadays. Stuff used to take pride in who can find the most creative ways to convey certain things. Who can give the audience certain feelings without overly explaining it. It used to not matter what kind of character, creature, species they were. What matters is that they found ways to convey artistic depictions of the Human condition. Creative ways that can connect us on a deeper level. This stuff we are seeing across the board when it comes to video games or different kinds of media really seems like we are seeing a horrible outcome of a awful trend where people keep getting positions, who in no way deserve those positions. It doesn't seem these people are hired based off of their talent or skill..? We are seeing very expensive shows, games, movies, with such terrible writing. Awful world design, character development, poor aesthetics. So much right now just feels overall creatively bankrupt and I really hope we all snap the f*ck out of it and get back to making better things. Better games better shows better movies
Funnily enough, I rewatched The Force Awakens last night and that was a breath of fresh air too (the only film in the sequels that I felt was actually solidly good). Personally, I like the Acolyte as a show in itself because I'm engaged with the story and characters, but you're the first to articulate exactly what I feel about how the show is filmed and the set design. Sometimes you can painfully tell that something is a set, and I think it's because of how they filmed it. The other films felt like you were in this huge towering world. Though I will say, I do like the show's use lighting. Combine that with the fight choreography and costume design, and it does feel like genuine creativity and passion. And the acting is good.
The sequels had bad writing bad nowhere near as bad as this. They had good potential for characters in those movies too. You can't even see that with any of the characters in here cept maybe Qimir. @@whe832kso10
It's so far from George's original ideas and concepts. Good and evil were clearly defined. What Disney tries to pass off as SW has so much ambiguity. Not the mention the unnecessary nudity...
personally i found the "clearly defined good vs evil" trope to be boring. not as boring as disney starwars but i just look back on some of my favorite star wars media. knights of the old republic 1&2 the clone wars tv show the force unleashed these portions of star wars media did ambiguity correctly. sith and other characters were written to be morally complex with mature themes and audiences in mind. the good vs evil trope wasnt so defined. in my oppinion this is what made for great starwars. george never moved beyond simplified 1970's writing style good vs evil storytelling and disney just treats starwars like its marvel with a different coat of paint.
It's very like the shawskank redemption you know that bit where he crawls trough a sewer full of shit exept there's no ending and it goes on for eternity
Don't forget the little hamster that's also just there for plot. How are they gonna track this person? Hamster. How did Sol find out it was Mae on the ship? Hamster. How did Mae escape sol? Hamster. Why did hamster betray sol and helped Mae all of a sudden? Hamster.
I honestly can't get my head around episodes with such a short runtime and yet containing so much dead air time. Scenes that do absolutely nothing, even the scenes that have ONE job are executed poorly. Great writing does multiple things within scenes; character work, world building, exposition, relationship dynamics, storytelling, plot implications. The Acolyte doesn't even try. The writers don't know how. Amateur hour.
what annoyed me so much was how Osha and Yord leave "CIViLiAn TO THa Ship". and she's like we need to go back!!! and then turn off the light shite bc the creatures are attracted to light.. YEAH YA'LL established THAT IN EPISODE 4. and then they end up going back when she's like "he will kill them all". no shit shirlock you saw those jedi die. UGH. sorry for my own nonsensical writing but damn... damn. and most of the episodes are less than 30 minutes minus the recap and credits and nothing really happens. i dont hate all of the show, but i very very much dislike most.
You’re wrong. To save money, Kennedy brought in a preschool class to write the dialogue for this series. No professional adults would come up with this nonsense.
@13:40 DUDE! I'm SO glad you point this out. The fact that this "guy" is supposed to be a powerful Jedi Master is hilarious, and it was honestly a big deal to me, kind of the "last straw" in how we're supposed to suspend our disbelief. "Holds his nose as he jumps in the pool" is such a perfect explanation on why this character is laughable.
@@luthrilcharryk9865 Point being, have you ever heard a Jedi with a lisp like that?!? 🤣🤣🤣 Even the female Jedi are more masculine than he is. I mean, FFS, come on Leslye.
Cal Kestis and the games that he's in are literally the only Disney's Star Wars that I can stomach. And even they have their issues, but I still have the motivation to experience those stories more than once. Disney has only pushed me further into Legends the longer that this goes on. I almost wouldn't be surprised if they get royalties from content they had no hand in. I can't imagine it any other way. Disney killed the appeal of all of this. It only makes the old stuff even better in retrospect.
I highly doubt it's the run times. The writing is so bad, that it would be better off as an hour long episode... and still get 13% user ratings. These people don't know how to write a good story. They are writing really really really bad fan fiction. I've seen bad fan fiction, believe me this is bad. The original Mary Sue fan fiction is better than Acolyte, and that's saying something.
I hope that Disney gets exposed for its money laundering practices cause there is no way......no way that all that budget was spent on the show. Kickbacks to the execs at the top?
@@lostvayne9146 actually the studio is registered in the UK and their tax is subsidised buy the gov or well the tax payers no dought they're saying it cost that much for the tax break so sadly I'm paying for this without watching
This show fucking sucks. It is so hard for people like me to be Star Wars fans because these people spit in the face of fans and shits all over the lore and true Star Wars. Also incredible that a masterpiece like Oppenheimer didn’t even cost HALF the fucking budget of this show
Just put everything from Doucheney out of your mind (maybe keep "Rogue One," if you like it) and kick back and watch the OT. They paid $4 billion to own the rights, but they can't tell us what is or isn't canon. ANH will make it all better! 🙂
@@JUICYbluepanda2 I really liked the quality of Oppenheimer but it’s definitely not for everyone. I will say, this might be the worst thing made in Hollywood in a LONG time(acolyte)
@@Liam-nw8bo Yes, that's for sure. I am mostly positive about Star wars but the sequel films and this show is bullshit. I think the other shows made by Dave Filoni are decent if not well.
I’m glad you called out that guy for holding his nose while jumping in the pool😂😂 when he was on screen, I literally said out loud “how tf is this guy a Jedi? He looks like he’s allergic to grass”
So a marked financial improvement on the Marvel films? While "shocking", the metric doesn't say much. The last Thor came out to 2.1M/min (double that with distribution)
The irony that the best two actors and characters of this female-centric, girl power show are actually dudes - Manny as Qimir and Lee as Sol...lol. (I'll also give props to Dafne - Jecki)
@@makeyourmark00Did the showrunner actually say that the show is meant to be a "girl power" show, or is that what people are calling it? It just feels like a normal show with a normal female lead.
Bad acting is typically a sign of a bad director. There is some decent acting here, particularly from the star power. But for the younger actors, yeah bad writing, editing, and direction are not going to do any favors. That's why it has the Disney channel vibes.
Nah. That's witcher blood origin. Comparing to that dog$h!t acolyte is a masterpiece. I do understand the reasons, the dissatisfaction though, but all in all I personally still kind of enjoyed it.
RIP STAR WARS 1977-1983. If you were there, you were there. Standing in lines, cheers in the audience, the toys, the buzz, the rumors of more movies. RIP.
What's wrong with George Lucas' other creations? Also some creations of Dave Filoni are also well. The worst one, I couldn't watch were 7, 8, 9th films + acolyte. Everything else is at least good if not well.
I'm waiting for the Acolyte to get the Kenobi treatment. Somebody splicing all the episodes together, trimming the shitty moments, salvaging the decent enough moments and making a decent fan edit
Finally seeing others also mention the sets. When watching almost any scene it feels and looks claustrophobic. The characters also sometimes feel like they are not a part of the scene for me, like a terrible green screen. It feels unnatural.
Disney could have gotten just about any one to write for them, with just about any budget, and tons of dedicated fans, and in the end 90% of what they made is mediocre or worse, half the fans hate them, and they oversaw the first box office bomb and transitioning a theatrical series to low budget tv shows. Just amazing incompetence and wasted opportunity.
How would you call $180 million budget a low budget series? Disney would be better off stacking 100 million dollars in a giant pile, running the Star Wars title card and playing the Imperial March while they set the money on fire and film it. It would cost them less and probably get less hate from the fan base.
@@kanecross no....and if you're trying to use that as a gotcha save it. The show looks like shit from go and the show runner is a liberal loser lunatic.
I stopped watching this show after episode 5 and only stay up to date not for the hatred but for the comedy. That's one area this show has not disappointed in.
@@privard89 Naw I have better taste and standards to even give Disney my time. I enjoy the reviews here on YT. I get enough of the Acolyte and I actually enjoy it via the reviewers dissecting its horrible writing.
I really feel bad for Lee Jung-Jae. The man was brilliant in Squid Game and this is what he gets to work on after learning how to speak English for a role? I bet he can make a comeback with Squid Game Season 2 but still.
He and the bad guy actor were so good they managed to imbue some complexity and emotional depth into characters that were written like cleaning products' labels. If anyone in Hollywood is smart, they'll be rushing to contract them.....but even if they don't, I think they can probably have a much better if not more lucrative career, in world cinema. Hollywood quality has declined sharply over the last few years, and some mainstream writing is insultingly close to Acolyte quality.
we have been watching star wars forever. with my family, we still ended up enjoying the new shows and movies. The acolyte is the first show where we all agreed it was really bad. I think that alone shows something
Agreed. Imagine Qimir who can blow away a bunch of Jedi with a wave of hand can't even remove a tiny light stuck to his back. In fact, Ep 6 is more like James Bond than SW...
Mentioning Qimir, given that him and Sol's actors are the real stand outs of the show, makes me think it would've been better just to focus on him and his personal vendetta against the Jedi (specifically Venestra, who seems to be the most likely culprit for his scar). Mae is just flip flopping too much to be compelling, and Osha seems to have the memory of goldfish (like falling in love with the guy who not even a day ago killed some of her friends right in front of her), so Amandla is out. Plus I feel it would tighten things up much more to have the focus only be between Sol and Venestra vs Qimir and not deal with the Space Lesbian Witches (and their Thread Spawn). But that would involve Lucasfilm even having competent writers, so that's a nope.
The budget quality of each episode feels like maybe 5 million at most, not the reported 20 million to make each episode. The money is going somewhere else, probably going to inflated exec salaries or overpaid vendors. It does not appear to be shown evident in the half hour episode. Simple sets on the land views, and the aerial views of shorelines could be captured on the latest DJI drone flyby which would not cost much to do.
Probably gone to sensitivity or DEI training and estrogen pills for the two white guys. Until someone who participated in producing this rubbish speaks out, we may never know.
I think the biggest issue with this series, is the premise. Like no one in the star wars fanbase (especially not those that dive deep into the EU) think high republic era when you mention a Sith Acolyte. The old republic era is the first to come to mind, then the imperial era, and then the post Endor era. Simply put, the whole premise of this show just doesn't work in an era where the Sith are in the shadows slowly laying the grounds to turn the republic into an empire, gathering power and resources, attempting to find ways to cheat death in vain on the side, and finding ways to weaken the Jedi or tie them closer to the republic. And if you're wondering why Disney would put this show in their high republic era, well your suspicions are correct just like how the galaxy's edge look of this series is already a giveaway. It's to try and sell their below average book series they made on this era that is also just mindless content and not something they were passionate or serious about in terms of exploring what that era would really be like.
I gave up on the show after episode 3, because I could not stand the writing and stupid character decisions. As someone who enjoys High Republic novels(where better writing and stakes thrive) this show negates whats happening in their own canon. In the very first episode they say it has been 100 years of peace. FALSE!! 100 years ago the jedi and the galaxy were fighting the Nihil. Curently listening to the audiobook Star Wars: Temptation of the Force of Phase 3 High Republic era and the war is still going on. F*ck The Acolyte and Dave Filoni too. They don't give a shit about their own canon books.
Stranger isnt that good a character. Complete joke for first half. He should have been arrested for helping murder jedi and poison mixing, etc. He wasnt hiding himself. He says helmet blocked his thoughts being read, yet the jedi dont mind read or feel his emotions earlier when hes bumbling helper version. His way to turn Osha is ridiculous. He just murdered everyone in front of her. All he says is the jedi are bad too. There's no real character here. He was good in the fight episode and some nice lines after killing the apprentice girl and yord and with Sol, but thats not a character. Just some decent one liners. He's just as shit a character as everyone else. Everything is half baked.
I cancelled my Disney subscription after episode 3. My sub got me as far as episode 5 before it ran out. Im done funding disney. Im done funding this garbage
"Sitcom length" When they give you 18ish minutes episode of Young Sheldon witch have also recap, intro and credits included in those miserably 18 minutes, you must ask for what they are paying people !
@@gabecollins5585 Because as a Jedi they could have / should have cast someone with some athleticism and physical grace to acknowledge the painful long training required, rather they cast someone who would fit as an understudy for Napoleon Dynamite. This isn't accidental, it's a deliberate attempt to undermine the classic heroic figure--asking the audience to aspire not to be the one jumping skillfully from 90ft high-diving board, but holding their nose as the plop into the shallow end of the pool.
I'm happy that at least now people from other countries know how it feels to watch a Dutch film or tv show. It's basically this almost every single time for the past decades. No logic. No consistency. There's literally a horror film with the premise of a group of young people getting stuck in a mine because above ground someone switches off the power for the elevator. Halfway through the film: a character feels like going back up, walks to the elevator AND SWITCHED IT ON.... and isn't even surprised to see it works again..... That's just one example from one film.
I like how you focused on the length of the episodes and tied it into the character decisions. I feel like not a lot of people are focusing on how fixable the issues could've been with more explanation, and it's something I focused on in my video as well

You're on point with everything. Content is poor, writing is comically bad, budget has vanished and somehow those responsible seem to think they should get away with it... What sealed the deal for me was seeing the Acolyte subreddit going full on GoT s8 mode : defending week after week every bad decisions, deflecting any criticism because "we've just got to give it time", witnessing the show deriving strongly from the source material and accepting it just for the sake of originality, and above all, making theories bigger and bigger every time just so that it makes sense while the show had primary school level depth of writing. The Sith reveal was the icing on the cake, it could have been such a big twist, linking the show to the OG universe, reddeeming a bit all of its other flaws... but no, it wasn't set up properly, it was just the obvious character who had no purpose otherwise, it wasn't motivated by anything, the reveal wasn't even needed and the character failed to justify it... It was as bad as everyone thought it would be.
You like the Stranger's design? ..yeah, i do too, its awesome, and thats because not even that is original.. they stole the design wholesale from ELFEN LIED..
Everyone is dumping on the Acolyte. Was anyone paying attention to the character of Qimir? He is the first bad guy that I actually liked from the beginning. He is bright, approachable, and should be the poster boy for the Dark Side! I would like to see a crossover between Qimir and Luke Skywalker. Luke might be persuaded to join Qimir without losing his hand! Yes, I'm passionate about Qimir.
I hadn't watched a trailer for this, but decided to give a try last night since all the episodes were up. I enjoyed the first couple episodes despite it being obvious they were going with the evil twin route. What I was a bit surprised by was the obvious lower budget this series received. When Disney+ first started doing the Marvel and Star Wars shows, the quality was stellar. Now we get a scene with the ship arriving on the forest planet, no CG shot of them disembarking, just cut and they're outside the ship on the ground. Or the huge missed opportunity of an awesome fight scene with those moths that were wrapped around the tree, seeing all the Jedi there slicing and dicing would have been stellar indeed. Instead we simply get Sol taking one out with the swipe of his light saber. I'll finish it cause I'm already invested in the characters and of course casting always does a good job with the eye candy. (Mostly referring to that scene of Yord shirtless.) However, what I listed doesn't appear to be what fans are mostly upset about, but rather the Star Wars cannon being warped here instead.
2 things. The women running this show thought it was okay to have a victim of kidnapping be attracted to her murderous kidnapper. The male characters in this show are being used as eye candy, most of them are secretly evil, and the ones that aren’t die instantly. And she claims she doesn’t have a hidden agenda, holy cow.
Have you seen the automatic read-out of scenes on Disney+? Their description of the bad guy in the fanservice (they admitted it) scenes is so.....yuck. So shamelessly obectifying it's like they're doing it on purpose. I don't care if it's some "revenge for former woman objectificatin" excuse they have going on, it's actually embarassing to listen to.
To be fare, Star Wars always had a inconsistence problem with it's tone. On one hand you have the burning corpses of Lukes step parents, devil-looking villains, planets being blown up, slavery, kids being massacred, limbs being chopped off, monster chambers - and on the other hand you have teddybear-aliens, characters stepping in poo, droids being comical and so on. So it's not a Acolyte-specific Star Wars-problem. But I agree with your criticism. The wide shots of Coruscant really made me wonder about the budget. Where are all the space ships we see flying there in the prequels? Isn't this the capital of a freaking galaxy? The continuity breaking with the prequels is the worst part. Takes you out of the world. They could so easily just made it take place 1000+ years before. And not hove more "chosen once" made by the force. Problem solved.

When a show's goal is to create a world that seeks to eliminate/reduce roles for whites and males, actually rewriting cannon to diminish previous White or Male characters, then who is the racist? Who is the sexist?
My running theory is the only people actually enjoy this show just have bad taste. I asked in one comment section if they actually liked this show do they watch CW shows, and was only proven right. "Some of the shows on CW are amazing!" Lmao yeah ok sure
Disney cost cutting. Look at most of their other shows. It’s like the writers have all sat in different rooms and written their own version to just paste
I didn’t even renew my families subscription after what they did to Mandalorian, we didn’t even want to know what this was going to be. Glad we’re missing it.
There are so so SO many things this show does wrong with basic 101 level story telling. How does Sol discover "Osha" is actually Mae? Well it's never really explicitly shown. Was it because he noticed Osha is suddenly kissing a unique tattoo on her arm? No. Is it because the tracker guy that isn't capable of communicating with Sol? Possibly? Is it because of the MASSIVE tattoo on Maes forehead? No because it's somehow conveniently always covered perfectly when he's around. Is it because Sol could detect it in the force? I mean, that's possible, but not likely. So HOW ON EARTH DID HE FIGURE IT OUT. "Well, you see it's a mystery series so we don't actually have to explain it." No, no you actually have to give some clues, and then let characters use those clues IN THE STORY to figure things out. That's a mystery series. What you're doing is a series of contrivances that the AUDIENCE is using to piece together a horribly paced story.
This show is such Shyte, the writing is so far below amateur level, the acting so bad, the plot is so horrendous, the directing is so absolutely atrocious that if one derives any kind of entertainment value from this steaming dog pile then I seriously question your intelligence.
There's a reason traditional dramas last around 45 minutes each. I don't miss 22 episode shows at that length but the length needs to be at that. Disney need to realise this. Of course if the show is garbage it probably would be even worse 😅
Andor was such an odd sheep... Everything the other Disney Star Wars shows lacked was in Andor. Stakes, nuance, philosophy/politics, brilliant directing and scenery, action, character development... And somehow, this was a one-off because everything that's been produced since is as bad as what was produced before. Crazy weird.
Andor was a dogshit prequel to an equally pointless movie that shit all over the efforts of Mon Mothma and the Rebellion and turned em into a bunch of shit eating wusses
Thank you for just straight ahead critiques about the show and no just crying about "wokeness." The show certainly has flaws all over the place, but it's hard to find someone only talking about the show
I literally said out loud to my roommate who was watching w me about how I was confused when mae started fighting jeckie, I was like “didn’t she JUST say she was going to turn herself in?” but my roommate wasn’t super responsive so I thought ///I/// was being annoying and over analyzing. so, to hear someone else had the same thoughts keep soo validating. also, in the beginning while it still maintained the “was osha actually the one who killed the jedi” mystery, I JOKINGLY said “oh, I bet she had an evil twin”. but I meant that as a joke bc I could not think of a way for it to make sense that osha had a twin, everyone knows she had a twin (dead or not) and no one talked about it in any capacity for so long. like the jedi discussing the murder with sol didn’t think to just ponder about “do you remember mae? I mean she’s dead, but this is weird, huh?” after sol was so adamant that osha wasn’t a killer. like, osha actually having an evil twin felt almost comical when it was revealed. I truly thought they were setting up something cooler, which is why I made the joke in the first place. bc the twin thing is just so simple and dumb lmao. I mean, it didn’t have to be if they set it up better. idk. but this is just me spewing thoughts .
*HATE-WATCHING* Most people talking about The Acolyte are *hate-watching.* The Critical Drinker recommended DarkHour who made an entertaining video called The Acolyte is Mental Abuse! Made some hilarious points. I will admit The Acolyte, The Boys Season 4, and House of the Dragon Season 2 have all been a little disappointing so far. I won't need to point out all the flaws from The Acolyte which gets regurgitated a hundred times a week by the hate-watchers. A lot of it makes zero sense. When Sol is ready to explain what happened in Brendok, he's always interrupted by something. Amandla Stenberg was the wrong choice to be the leads. Nobody cares about Mae and Osha because nobody really knows what they want in life. Although not as bad as The Acolyte, The Boys S4 has been the most disappointing season for that series. The last two episodes gave us flying sheep and then Batman and Spider-Man bondage scenes dealing with fart jokes, a butthole, and cake. Sister Sage becomes dumb after a bullet in the head They're only going for shock value instead of substance. No clue how to end this series. Only Ep. 2 and 4 are the standouts but the rest has been mostly underwhelming. How many more dick jokes do we need? House of the Dragon has been the most consistently good among those three and I will tune in later tonight to watch The Battle at Rook's Rest between Aegon on Sunfyre & Aemond on Vhagar battling Rhaenys on Meleys, but I'm hearing from leakers that there are some changes similar to what they did with Blood & Cheese. And I'm aware George R.R. Martin was not thrilled about those changes for B&C. Aemond is supposed to do something different than what's written in Blood & Fire. In House of the Dragon S2, what's up with characters always sneaking somewhere undetected every week? Hoodie Daemon, Blood and Cheese, Arryk Cargyll, and then Rhaenyra disguised as a septa? Nobody seems to be guarding any of these places! While DarkHour made some hilarious points about how The Acolyte has zero regard for time and space. How the dead bodies did not decompose. How it was so easy for Vernestra's group to find them while the first group needed a tracker. You know what I rewatched last night or at least certain scenes from it? Andor. The entire heist scene in The Eye is simply awesome. Remember these names: Obviously, Tony Gilroy (Rogue One and Andor creator). Directed Rix Road. Tony should take over for Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau. His brother, Dan Gilroy, who wrote The Eye. And Toby Haynes, who wrote One Way Out. Toby will write three more episodes for S2. If House of the Dragon continues to disappoint with changes that doesn't need to happen, I will put Andor above it. HBO writers are already ruining my boy, Daemon. We got the PG-13 version of Blood & Cheese and it probably pissed off GRRM which is why he praised Ep. 2 more than Ep. 1. Then it looks like The Boys which I absolutely loved since Season 1, is getting worse like the last season of LOST, The Walking Dead, and Game of Thrones. Running out of ideas. One complaint about The Acolyte are 32-42 minute long episodes. Nothing seems to get done. They happen to be short episodes but it can still feel like a slog with some of the most boring dialogue and then apathy for the characters. Ep. 4 and 5 were only 32 minutes while Ep. 6 was 37 minutes and resolved nothing. While Andor had episodes ranging from 29-54 minutes and we got 12 episodes. Andor used all that time to flesh out the characters and story better. Andor's entire run time was nearly 8 hours. The Acolyte will be closer to Mando at 4.5 hours. I think my favorite thing I saw this year was Ted 🧸. HOT D S2 has been slightly underwhelming with some questionable changes. The Boys S4 has no real direction. Once Homelander dies, which needs to be done because he's unredeemable, will end the show. We know S5 will be their last season, so these recent episodes feel like filler/padding until we get to when Homelander is killed. I predict Frenchie dies because what's with all this remorse stuff? He hasn't been appealing since S1. While a majority of the cast aren't all likable. Homelander is the best part but he's the one who needs to die to end the series. The Acolyte is probably the worst thing to ever come out for SW. Identity politics without an identity. DarkHour pointed how Ep. 4 or 6 should've given us more info. Instead, Ep. 4 gave us no action or meaningful info. Ep. 5 gave us mostly action but hardly any new info about the big mystery except Smilo Ren/Darth of Dental Puns' identity. Then Ep. 6 gave us no action or any meaningful info again. It has bait and switched the viewers by killing Trinity within the first 5 minutes and deleting a scene of Kelnecca fighting for his life. The questions from Brendok are still being asked three episodes later. This all leads to apathy from the viewers. By the time they answer what really happened in Brendok in Ep. 7, most of us stopped caring or watching. Andor Season 2 can't come soon enough. The Handsome Menace can't save this trainwreck of a series called The Acolyte. Ahsoka S1 was all about the characters swapping galaxies. While The Acolyte is all about nothing. Character Rankings 1. Qimir / The Stranger 2. Sol 3. Jecki 4. Aniseya 5. Yord 6. Bazil 7. Pip 8. Osha 9. Kelnacca 10. Torbin 11. Vernestra 12. Koril 13. Mae I forgot about WilyKat (boy twin) and WilyKit (girl twin) from 1980s' ThunderCats and Jecki does look like them. I kept comparing her to a young Cheetara but she does looks like those ThunderKittens. The Acolyte is Mental Abuse! (by DarkHour) th-cam.com/video/SmoLkynRYvk/w-d-xo.htmlsi=0Vb6dteKFAc4-H83 The hate-watching from most of these TH-camrs who run rage bait channels continues on Tuesday night/Wednesday morning. How much more comedy and funny memes do they have for us?
Couldn’t read your diatribe after the boys complaints. Fascinating, have you even watched the boys up till now? Shocking humour has been their thing since like day one bro. Translucent getting blown to pieces from a bomb up his ass, the deep fucking octopus homelander breast feeding etc. As Jimmy Said in South park ,I mean come on.
This show is set during the High Republic. Why is it then, that all of the Jedi we see are far inferior to the Prequel Era Jedi? The Jedi that actually caused the order to fall? Can anyone honestly say that Mace, Yoda, Obi or Qui Gon would've been unable to solve the nonsense we are seeing in the Acolyte? Would Mace gave been fought to a stand still by Qimir? Would Qui Gon not be able to sense Mae? Would Obi get defeated by a kunai thrown by a novice? Would Yoda not be able to sense ANY darkside use of the Force? Its just a huge ask by Disney at this point. A point where they have no credit and its their own damn fault.
Just want to say those House of the Dragon episodes are also inflated since at the end of the episode there’s a Making-of segment explaining the episode. Usually adding 7-9 minutes of run time.
Jesus Christ this beginning was slow and dumb.. why cares about the length? IS IT GOOD? If it’s the best show you ever watched, then 20min per ep is fine. Why would you start with the “it’s too short”. So you mean the series is so fantastic that you just can’t wait for more too watch. The slow beginning made me think you must LOVE this series, complaining you can’t watch more of it! It must be very very good. I’ll watch it right now due to your glowing recommendation!
The discourse surrounding this show is exhausting. It's nothing special, but not as bad as everyone is saying. I think it would have been better as a full season binge. The short episodes are hurting it a lot.
It is bad. It’s horrific writing from start to finish. If you know anything about storytelling you know every beat, every scene and every dialogue or character serves a larger narrative purpose. To which this show has none. Oh except the moth thing. That was terribly done however. This show is not quality in any measure. Its 180mil clearly laundered lol
I agree. The negativity is overblown, just let them finish. It's entertaining as it is and the actors and crew worked hard for this. People just don't know how to accept anything new, this is a thirsty Star Wars and it ain't bad at all.
@@lyndonarana9408 no its warranted. 180 million and its got the quality of a low experience group. Disney dropping in quality is just something you accept? That’s fine but it shows you are desperate for anything entertainment instead of quality entertainment.
I also been wondering why the animated series has better writing. But at this point too much hate towards this show is already annoying, just let them cook. If it's bad I'll join the mob, but hey it's not a bad thing to enjoy mediocre shows. It's entertaining enough, the hate is just too much.
@@lyndonarana9408 Right. You admit its mediocre and accept bad writing. Whereas people like me who are writers will look at this and be absolutely appalled. I pitched a series to Disney and it was rejected because simply put: I am a white straight male and they want specific quotas writing for them and specific ideas in their stories instead of characters, themes and meaningful narratives... Enjoy your lame entertainment. I am enjoying the reviews of this beyond mediocre show.
I don’t hate it as much as everyone else, I think the whole High Republic Era and the fight choreography are incredibly well done. Buuut they structured the whole “mystery plot” very poorly, no one really cares about Mae and Osha
@@chasehedges6775 You don't say. If only everything else can share Andor's glory. And then I won't have to justify my liking to anything else that isn't Andor and have my opinion influenced by all the hate videos of other shows.
We've gotten to the point where reviews of a show are more entertaining than the shows themselves. Disney have truly outdone themselves
Soooo true.
When making fun of Disney is better than watching Disney Lol
They’re even blaming the reviews, done by independent guys in their small home office/studio, for their $180m show failing! 😂
I haven't watched the show I've just watched reviews because honestly they've been quite entertaining. Probably more worth my time than the show itself is.
Then they 'blame fans' after putting out crap content as if that works in any universe.
Where did the money go? The only explanation that makes sense is that the show is actually a money laundering scheme.
I think they actually went into space (where no one can hear your screams).
Somebody has a new house in Malibu, new wardrobe, new cars and maybe a new private jet.
Same question i had with Rings Of Power. I have no choice but to accept the Money Laundering Conspiracy theory until we receive a better explanation
This show had writers? You mean it's NOT Headland's 180 million faux therapy session? Could have fooled me.
She wrote most of the episodes I believe all of them with help from another lesbo I think.
@@slymongoose420either way, the writer(S) being lesbian doesn't have anything to do with the show's criticism, and it shouldn't.

TBH I read Fanfictions of 13 year olds with more depth :,D
Remember when a TV series like "24" or "Star Trek" would release 24 episodes every year, at 43 minutes long each. That's more view time in one season than a streaming series today will give you for 3 seasons over the course of 5 years. (Madalorian, etc.)
@Govna2104Which is an indictment of today's shows.
Writing is hard, you know. These new age weaklings don't wanna put in the hard work to build up a rich storyline. I miss the good old shows...
@Govna2104Yeah, that's worse! 🙆♂️😂
While i completely agree, and want more series to just put out more content.
The need to put out 24-27 episodes is how we got Beverly Crusher's space harlequin romance episode
@@kow1129 Hey, I liked that episode!
It’s mainly the writing, acting, and just cheap looking at times
EXACTLY
I have seen $100 per episode low budget South African sitcoms with faaaaaaar better acting.
The writing of this show should be taught in film school in how not to write a show. The writing is insanely bad and I simply wrote comments on how they could fix it. ( I am not a writer but I wrote stories for fun) So disappointing!
Tbh if you look at Obi-wan and mando its the same.. Soo many shots just looks cheap and you can clearly see its on a set..
So pretty much everything you see and hear on screen 😂
Making fun of Disney Star Wars is way more fun than watching it now.
Money laundering? Nobody can't say Lesley hasn't learned anything from Harvey. 😂 I wouldlove to know who else at Disney/Lucasfilm ist filling His or her pockets.
Something's going on. You never know with Iger and Kennedy, two megalomaniacs whose #1 priorities are themselves.
The story takes place 100 years before the Prequels so it makes sense if Coruscant in this timeline is not as overbuilt as in the Prequels.
i feel like the costumes are so overlooked as to why the show lacks any conviction or care , they're going from ice planets to forest planets and dress the exact same for both and their clothes have no wear on them
I never thought about that but that’s actually common in Star Wars oddly enough
@@DaNewWaveLee not really. Look at the OT. The costumes were different from Tatooine to Hoth to Bespin to the forest moon of Endor. Now, if you are talking about the Jedi specifically then yeah, the dress code is strong with them 😂 the only difference we see really is either classic robes or battle armour and that is contingent on if there are any wars going on.
Everything they wear looks BRAND NEW it’s just lazy
I bet they have great cast fashion shows though. You know they do. You KNOW that's how unserious they take it.
Most shows nowadays in the fantasy genre wardrobe have that not live in look to them problem

@@01calvin02 you don't know what you're talking about
I don’t know if this is literally word-for-word true, but I remember hearing this about Disney writers:
They know that their audience isn’t really watching.
When the writing, acting & production is this bad, there’s a lot to say about it.
This show is boring bad which is worse than hilariously bad. If it was atleast hilariously bad we could have fun tearing it apart, but nope it’s just boring and doesn’t deserve all of this attention. It should be forgotten like Disneys trilogy.
The Acolyte is the best Star War series since The Mandalorian. I cannot wait for season 2.
@@gingerblue2265oof it got canceled oh well probably the most smartest thing I’ve seen Disney do in a long time. It was terrible.
@@rageagaintstheNWO Oh yeah. I had a blast watching coverage of it.
When did Hollywood/disney get so lazy? I'm not talking about just what they write but a 27 minute short film for an 8 episode season? this is a joke! I just finished my SCP related film this year with almost no budget, and it runs nearly 40 minutes!
Where can I watch your movie?
When? Ask the people who paid for everything they shat out.
it's really not that they got lazy, they started trying to make more money by pandering to a loud portion of audiences on Twitter/X/BlueSky/FB and for some reason, none of the losses they've been having as a result of it, throwing their money down the drain on SEVERAL Marvel and Star Wars products alike the past few years have seemed to persuade investors that "Huh, maybe this isn't a good call afterall"
Where can I watch your piece of shirt movie?
When AI got used to rewrite a female 'Captain America the First Avenger' and we got captain marvel.
They literally have the sane exact back story, just without brie Larson character being sickly and weak, so that's gonna be my guess.
i think the shorter episodes are the highlight of this series so far. The less of it we have to endure the better.
Damn! My dog just left a huge pile of acolyte on the carpet!
I beg to differ. Your dog did it probably better.
the shit is better than acolyte
Is there light sabers in it
Last night I rewatched "The Phantom Menace" and it was so refreshing.
(which is weird because that should be one of the most important attributes that a director or a developer or an actor has in order to be successful at their job....?)
How is there no one that will fire these people who openly hate the fans, hate the consumers who made their success in the first place..

It was the quintessential good vs evil battle…why would they change that?
personally i found the "clearly defined good vs evil" trope to be boring. not as boring as disney starwars but i just look back on some of my favorite star wars media.
knights of the old republic 1&2

these portions of star wars media did ambiguity correctly. sith and other characters were written to be morally complex with mature themes and audiences in mind. the good vs evil trope wasnt so defined. in my oppinion this is what made for great starwars. george never moved beyond simplified 1970's writing style good vs evil storytelling and disney just treats starwars like its marvel with a different coat of paint.

You’re wrong. To save money, Kennedy brought in a preschool class to write the dialogue for this series. No professional adults would come up with this nonsense.
Like with a lot of these shows, this seems like even more of an editing problem than a writing problem.
@13:40 DUDE! I'm SO glad you point this out. The fact that this "guy" is supposed to be a powerful Jedi Master is hilarious, and it was honestly a big deal to me, kind of the "last straw" in how we're supposed to suspend our disbelief. You didn`t mention another reason this show is trash... the unforgivably atrocious acting. It gives planks of wood a bad name.
It's funny how acting sucks when the writing sucks
Manny Jacinto and the Squid Game guy do a pretty decent job. They both clearly believe they're in a better show than they really are.
Congratulations Disney for making the worst TV show in history.

But what is there to leave in though 🤔
I have seen so much footage of that main actress and she has only one facial expression.
You’re wrong, she has 2 facial expressions. Eyes open and eyes closed.
What I hate most about the show is a wasted opportunity. I wanted this show to be good.
If only they were low budget…
Even if they had a good script, Kathleen Kennedy would've made it lame and ghey.
How would you call $180 million budget a low budget series? Disney would be better off stacking 100 million dollars in a giant pile, running the Star Wars title card and playing the Imperial March while they set the money on fire and film it. It would cost them less and probably get less hate from the fan base.
Hopefully dune 2 came as a wakeup call for them

He and the bad guy actor were so good they managed to imbue some complexity and emotional depth into characters that were written like cleaning products' labels. If anyone in Hollywood is smart, they'll be rushing to contract them.....but even if they don't, I think they can probably have a much better if not more lucrative career, in world cinema.
Apparently the lure of some Qimir qock is enough to make Osha forget her dead friends.
Why doesn’t the evil twin have a goatee and moustache? Massive fail.

@@Jus-Too-Smoove No I don’t but I don’t see how thats an insult or whatever he meant. I just wanted some context.

Only episodes 1 and 5 are good. 2 is okay. 3, 4 and 6 are bad, especially the third one.

"Well, you see it's a mystery series so we don't actually have to explain it."
No, no you actually have to give some clues, and then let characters use those clues IN THE STORY to figure things out. That's a mystery series. What you're doing is a series of contrivances that the AUDIENCE is using to piece together a horribly paced story.
Money laundry? My brother in Christ I bet these star writers are the best paid in the world.

At least in ep3 the singing witches were fun to watch lol. Ep6? NOTHING happened. Boooring. Osha is an non-hero - she does nothing...
*HATE-WATCHING*
Most people talking about The Acolyte are *hate-watching.* The Critical Drinker recommended DarkHour who made an entertaining video called The Acolyte is Mental Abuse!
Sister Sage becomes dumb after a bullet in the head
They're only going for shock value instead of substance.

Sincere question for the fans. Why do you keep watching? Hope?
Just want to say those House of the Dragon episodes are also inflated since at the end of the episode there’s a Making-of segment explaining the episode. Usually adding 7-9 minutes of run time.
never EVER watch these shows legally. Just download them Illegaly! Better quality and the makers aren't getting any money for these woke shit shows
Ok.. Good choice
"Woke" isn't the issue. There are amazing shows with diverse casts, including HotD. The problem here is bad writing, budget misallocation.
Imagine editing out all the intros/end credits…. And just splicing the show together as a movie… it would be hilarious
The Acolyte seems like a perfectly fine Star Wars story. I’m not sure why people are hating on it so much.
I don’t hate it as much as everyone else, I think the whole High Republic Era and the fight choreography are incredibly well done. Buuut they structured the whole “mystery plot” very poorly, no one really cares about Mae and Osha
If the name isn't Andor, it wouldn't be complete garbage.
The difference is that Andor was a good/well-written,well shot and well acted show
@@chasehedges6775 You don't say. If only everything else can share Andor's glory. And then I won't have to justify my liking to anything else that isn't Andor and have my opinion influenced by all the hate videos of other shows.
I'm glad I didn't give up on Andor. It was well worth the trip.
@@marcmarc1967 If only I felt the same as everyone else.
Andor was pretty good but damn near boring half the time
