    Thanks Rich for this one, I just ordered the 10/20 laser upgrade today for my Lasermatic 10 as they just came available today for order. I jumped on that first thing and am very excited to upgrade my 10 watt laser. I also received the new chuck rotary a couple of weeks ago and really like the new rotary. And since I have both styles of rotary it offers some flexibility. I am assuming the upgrade should be fairly easy with the new laser. I also upgraded the cabling so I think I will have all the machine I will need (for now anyway) ;-).... I will be looking forward to the live stream. Cheers from Utah !

    I always learn something watching this channel. Thx for the work you do. I didn't know that there were "hard" switchable power levels (vs PWM). Given the high power diode lasers are series optically combined diodes it makes so much sense to use just one or two to achieve a smaller spot size and finer detail. Makes you wonder if everyone will do this in the future? From the tests you did it seems that a 50% increase in power only resulted in a 30% increase in speed. Would a 40W unit show an even smaller % increase? You read various claims about "single pass cutting depth" with high power diode lasers but I wonder if there's a similar decreasing, not proportional, return of results there too. Especially given beam divergence and focus depth.

    • @TheLouisianaHobbyGuy
      @TheLouisianaHobbyGuy  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I can't answer that Brian, but when the spot size increases with more collimation of diodes, the cutting ability goes down. I don't think there's a hard and fast formular.

    • @TheLouisianaHobbyGuy
      @TheLouisianaHobbyGuy  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      There is no comparison from 10 to 20 or 10 to 30W. The 10W is ultra fine engraving. Some people don't notice a difference, but when you're looking for super high quality engravings, always throw the switch to 10W mode.

    Hi Rich, a bit off topic question. First, I love your videos and have learned so much. Thank you for doing these videos. I have an Atezr L2-36w laser and I’ve lost my auto focus. I’m on the Atezr FB forum and looks like this is becoming a widespread issue. Have you experienced this issue and might you know of a fix for it? Also, looks like Atezr is not being very responsive to me and others so wondering if you are still a fan of the iKier 36 or 48 watt unit with auto focus? Thanks

    • @TheLouisianaHobbyGuy
      @TheLouisianaHobbyGuy  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@TheLouisianaHobbyGuy Hi Rich, thanks for the reply. I am on the Atezr page because my laser is an Atezr L2-36watt laser. I was considering the Ikier unit as a replacement. I would like a unit with auto focus and it seemed similar. I sit a distance from the machine when working so the auto focus is a nice feature. My main goal is reliability and a higher power diode laser in the upper 30 to 48 watt range. If that means no auto focus I will adapt. Do you have a recommendation for solid higher power diode with a larger work area similar to the size of the Atezr and iKier beds? I appreciate your recommendations.

    Hey Steve, nice video as usual with loads of inspiration.
    But I have two questions.
    1) - in your videos and streams I see a beautifully clean laser cover and honey comb
    - so just a question, how often and with what do you clean it.
    And the second question... technical
    2) - when moving in the y-axis, the laser cuts through the plywood completely,
    but in the x-axis the cut is not complete. I think the laser is modified by something in the x-axis?
    That there would be some other way of modulating the laser beam?
    Or is the laser head shaking somehow and the beam is not consistent???
    I couldn't find an explanation anywhere.
    Have a nice day Steve , I look forward to more videos.
    Lada V. Vacatko
    But most of all...good luck with your work.

    • @TheLouisianaHobbyGuy
      @TheLouisianaHobbyGuy  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      My name is Rich, not Steve. I clean my acrylic with regular glass cleaner. It's the Y axis that doesn't cut as well as the X, and that's because the laser beam is slightly rectangle, so it's more concentrated on the X.

      Sorry Rich.. my mistake. I somehow got it mixed up...:o)) Just for fun - "Uncle Google" translates your name as Rich money Luisiana Hobby guy...(Congratulations as you can see, sometimes it's an advantage to travel across the globe).
      But the X and Y explanation of the position of the passer beam is actually logical. I forgot about that. But as interesting as the small difference in beam shape makes a difference in burning through the material.
      Thank you for answer. Lada

    Rich, now that the LaserMatic is going to be available in the UK, I have ordered the 30w. So I am now revisiting your previous videos about the LaserMatic in anticipation of my delivery (mid Jan 24). A question do you have to manually change from 10w to 30w in the middle of a run or is it done automatically by LightBurn?

    • @TheLouisianaHobbyGuy
      @TheLouisianaHobbyGuy  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      This is a complicated question Ian, and the answer is yes and no.
      *Yes,* you can set the engrave layer to be 50% power as an example, but the 4 diodes will still be outputting.
      *No,* the 10/30 switch is a manual toggle switch on the module.
      *Yes,* you can run the engrave layer in 10W mode with the cut layer turned off, and when the job finishes, flip the switch to 30W, turn off the engrave layer, and then turn on and run the cut layer.

    I have to say, I'm a bit perplexed. When I view these videos on lasers and laser power; and I do watch a lot of videos on the subject, I can never tell if the TH-camr is talking about input power or output power. Obviously, output is a true measure of the laser's ability. If input power is the normal reference pertaining to the ability of the machine, then, we're not really getting an accurate description of the laser's output, which is the ultimate measurement of the laser's capability. Example being, If I own a 20w laser that only has an output of 5w, and the TH-camr is reviewing a 40w laser that has an output of 20w and he doesn't inform the public that it is 20w input or 20w output, then why would I purchase a 20w laser not knowing if the wattage is input or output?
