Anything is possible, surely a valid goal. One game at a time, first an undefeated preseason, then making the conference championship game, then the CFP playoffs, and finally the CFP NCAA championship. But a winning season and a good bowl is not something to be disappointed in.

One game at a time. I would be thrilled with a 9-3 regular season this year with losses to: Iowa State, Texas Tech, and either West Virginia or TCU.

BYU needs a more consistent QB and running game, no injuries and luck to go all the way. I see them as 9-3 and maybe a conference championship game. NOt sure that they have the depth or mind set for a national championship quite yet. Just my opinoin. They are still the most fun team to watch.

We won’t go very far next season unless our QB improves. That and some luck and we may have a great season.

Ok everyone. Ohio St spent $20M for NIL alone. You want to win a CFP? You gotta spend more than that.

Hey I'm a BYU Fan, but first BYU has to win the BIG 12, Championship then win all their games in the playoffs. Not being a negative Nancy, just a realist.

I love your show Jake but this is nutty. If it happens we'll crow about it then, but in the meantime the chance of this happening is negligible.
Why won't they win? 1) average QB play 2) lack of beef and a lot of questions on the offensive and defensive lines
Let's not lose touch with reality as a certain fanbase up north did last year.

Let's temper expectations. Clearly byu plays better as underdogs but more importantly, byu needed last second heroics to beat the worst team in the big 12 at home. There's a lot more parity in the big 12 than we give credit for and byu could very well improve next year and still finish middle of the pack in the big 12. While a natty is possible, it's far more likely byu ends up middle of the pack in the big 12

This is the expectation BYU fans should have for 2025. Unfortunately the BYU media will talk folks into thinking we are making the playoffs.

Why should I temper my expectations? You are discounting the 11and 2 season? Many champion programs sometimes struggle in some games, but a win is a win. As a FAN my expectations will always be positive, not Luke warm. We are returning almost all of last years team.

In the past, BYU has had success because they could pretty much control their schedule, getting up for big games and then coasting against cupcakes.
When they joined the Big 12, they found the going tougher.
Imagine if they had to play a SEC or B1G schedule? It would expose the weakness of the program to the max.
Stick with being happy to beat Utah!

    • @earlhuff3998

In the past BYU won Mountain West championships and WAC championships. They have only been in the Big 12 for 2 seasons and look where they are now. They are returning most of this last seasons team. If you think they can't improve this then I kinda question your "fandom".

I have not watched the video. but the reason that we won’t win the national championship is Jake Retzlaff.
He is a decent quarterback, but not a great one in spite of what Trevor match might say. Lots of overthrown and underthrown balls. He has been bailed out by his talented receivers and some scrambling ability. I’m not saying he’s terrible. I’m just saying he’s not top tier like we hope.

Hahahahaha!! Only a matter of time before BYU fans are talking national championship again in the off-season. Y'all should 1st try to just get to the Conf Championship Game before drifting off into fantasy land with this nonsense talk. I realize it's what y'all do best but seriously...tell your Locked On guy his podcast would still be clickbait worthy if the headline read "Can BYU win a conference title this year?" Answer is still no but at least it would save y'all the embarrassment.

You can say as many bad things as you want about Darrell Funk. He cost BYU the Fanos, both of them and he caused the entire offensive line to regress year over year. I wish him nothing.

Blue goggles pipe dream. BYU was good and had a good team. But they won several games by the skin of their teeth. BYU does not have the horses to compete with the Ohio States. BYU does not have a quality qb to carry them. BYU will be fortunate rank in the top half of the confetence.

I know you can’t compare everything but Ohio State was beaten. They lost twice this year. And the toughest game they had in the playoffs was Texas. Who should’ve lost Arizona State who we should have beaten if we had played 2 full halves.
I know you can’t Equate one thing to another. I’m just saying there is an argument that Ohio State could have been beaten or at least there are a few teams that are not that far away from competing with them.

@@joshuasystems Im no professional but my biggest concern about this team is Jake Retslaff. He really was quite mediocre most of the year, not saying he’s bad, but he definitely hasn’t been on the money like people think he has. Lots of overthrown passes, including missing one that lost us the Arizona State game and then another one that ended up in the interception that sealed the loss. And lots of underthrown passes that great receivers have bailed him out on! he has a pretty good ability to scramble, but he really hasn’t been all that great, in spite of what Trevor Matich says!
