In Syracuse N.Y., they would have these stings. The reason they had these stings was to cut down on food stamp fraud. one women had 27 different accounts. the average food stamp abuse was 4. Meaning you were getting for times the amount you should have gotten. So they installed a bio metric system. It consisted of a fingerprint. It helped to cut back on the sting operations, cut back on the fraud and freed up time of the workers to perform other duties. I use Bio metrics at work.
OK. Summary: we don't necessarily own our data, nor do we really know how much is taken, where or how it is used, or with whom that data is shared, when we should be able to know about and control all of our data. My one problem with this video is that he only mentions that change will come when someone misuses this data very badly. He does not mention how to gain control of our data before such an information scandal occurs.
I would not worry too much yet. Currently the biggest problem with big data and most internet firms is that the consumers are appropriating all the value, while the companies are just making small bucks on advertising.
Limiting your use of technology seems to be the only solution right now. But with everything being so tech dependent you run the risk of being left behind
Add "Machine Learning" researches to that. But we still getting lost between if that was meant to rise or to destroy the human race... Earth is becoming such a scary place.
By far this is the most reasonable comment so far.I am somewhat amazed no one has mentioned anything about the banks. There might be some release form which would protect the company from the forwarded info. Proprietary info should be protected and a disclaimer could be in effect. The idea being that in the end of this segment he stated if the wrong hands got a hold of info. We don't want to much of certain information being released. This is a point counter point. Look at THNKR yesterday.
If we live our life well both online and off we will benefit from the big data explosion. If we make mistakes it will affect us for the rest of our lives.
You're telling us about the dangers of Big Data and than you ask us to subscribe to your pages on Google, TH-cam and Facebok??? Sorry, I don't get your message...
You need to look at the previous THNKR. It is in favor of Big Data. This is a point, counter point segment, the latter being to the counter. i work now at a facility that has Bio Metrics. I worked at one that had to install one.
I'm not quite sure what you're getting at, but nothing you've said can force me to accept anything. And yeah...everybody's a hypocrite. That's one of my foundational tenets. Glad to see someone admitting it.
i know how it is, but i still did it didnt i? its a trade off, i understand that. but that means you have to accept it. it just makes me look hypocritical, and im ok with that.
Whilst I think the tone of this video is on the alarmist side, there is a very good point to be made which is why are we not asking to have access to our big data? It should be a basic right to have access to all your own "developed" data if you request it from any organisation or government body. Terms and conditions of websites should be updated accordingly and you should be advised if they are on forwarding your data at an individual level.
while true, that doesnt have to be how it is. if everyone has the resources to find out any and all information about anyone at any time. that will change, whether thats a good thing or if it will quickly change into a bad, has yet to be seen. we are in a time in which much can and will change. dont think that im ignorant to the fact that people will abuse it, but it also has the power to fortify many things as well, such as law and punishment. convicting criminals with absolution of guilt.
The reason they installed a Bio metric system was to stop people from falsely saying that they were at work. For those who showed up,it was fair. The other day an article came out saying that a man had been collecting social security since 1998.Bio Metrics could also help with that.Proprietary information in many cases is held to protect the company from loses,in this case their should be exceptions, seeing that the heath of the individual is also the health of the community.Collectively Yours
I have no problem with people knowing all my data, but i do have a problem with people or companies profiting off the trade of my information. i think information needs to be free
E = mc^2 --> the equation E is equal to mc 2, in which energy is put equal to mass, multiplied by the square of the velocity of light, showed that very small amounts of mass may be converted into a very large amount of energy and vice versa. The mass and energy were in fact equivalent, according to the formula mentioned before [E = mc 2].
To be fair, this isn't only "bad". (from what i've noticed) It's mostly used to show relevant commersials, taking information from searches and web page visits. This is good both for me, the product/company being showed AND the company/page that shows the banners etc.
I believe he's saying, don't put so much information out on your facebook to begin with so we can start to reverse this problem.
Heyy was this really 11yr ago 💀
The fact that the government doesn't have the right, doesn't mean it won't attempt to do it.
actually, not even government, but "small" companies keep track of "you" more than you would imagine
Whatever country it is, the government will never have the right to track it's citizen!!
Interesting video

Fascinating stuff.

Should we worry yet? lmao

Interesting, indeed.

You are one hundred percent correct. Big data is nuts. Can't wait to read your book.

How do we become part of the conversation? Where can we research to be more informed ? And how do we know what we say will count?
i would hope it was wireless
If we live our life well both online and off we will benefit from the big data explosion. If we make mistakes it will affect us for the rest of our lives.
thats it, there's way better arguments than that

Very interesting
I think it's the big data that's gonna cause to have Mark of the beast from the bible,

you never should have created a youtube account, then...or a google account....or a cell phone account....or used a computer....

Install "do not track me"!
this is real they own a lot of information about us and the can own much more informations
personal information issues really can be fixed by common sense.

NSA gathers all info on us and uses it to even predict mass movements and protests just like they did in Benghazi
This came out before the prism scandal (the thing Edward Snowden told the world about) O.o
