there's something poetic about being with your love in their last moments as you kill them. the outcome is terrible but the moment is one of the most intense so it works well in a picture where the moment never ends.

As for Naofumi and Raphtalia, it might happen in the future but it hasn't even come close to that situation in the Manga (no idea about the light novel).
