So there was the risk of someone spending too much time alone (Yunho, who's Mingi's best friend) and looking too isolated from the rest of the group. And in the past Jongho used to be more reserved (as shown in that video). So they tried to put them in a unit together. Two birds with one stone: Yunho is not alone, and the maknae is taken care of. And let's not forget that Jongho said Mingi is his favorite hyung and at one point they shared a room. I think both him and Yunho suffered a lot when Mingi was away. Jongho is also close to Yeosang, but Yeosang is Wooyoung's best friend and San is obsessed with him (lol) so it's likely that he spends more time with them than with Jongho. I really think it wasn't a fanservice thing, but an attempt to find some balance after the shock of not having Mingi there.

Although I'm sure the friendship is genuine, it's no secret that some groups and pairs are more popular than others and we have our own common ideas about how they mix and match and what the relationship is like. Personally I love to see all sorts of dynamics which I try to highlight on my channel!

Unfortunately, I do know Universe doesn't have very accurate subs already. But most of what I put out is exactly what any english speaking official program is putting out to English fans by paid translation teams. So, sadly, it's the world most of us non k-atiny are living in where we just collectively don't know the most accurate contexts. However, I often try to make tiny adjustments with my basic knowledge of Korean. I also have Korean fans that frequently help me with any subs I suspect are wrong and tweak them too. I know it won't be perfect, often different Korean speakers have different opinions on how I should have it come across as well, but I really do try to strive for accuracy, I believe, to a much greater extent than a majority of eng speaking Ateez content creators. If you have any specific examples though I'd like to know so I can improve in the future or not re-use clips that are too removed from their original context.

I think he kind of has a lisp too if I remember correctly? So some of the pronunciation of his words may be more relaxed and he’s not focusing on speaking as clearly? It could also just be referring to his manner of speaking rather than his physical voice

I would like to clarify that it's not like every interaction they have is fan service. They're obviously still close friends but, yes, it can't be denied that they know certain groupings are popular. It's more like creating named units like "matz" or "99z" are done for marketing rather than their actual day to day interactions though ofc. They are kind of joking that Jongho won't do certain interactions with new groups they try to assign him but I believe that's more like filming extra content together and stuff not like...making hand hearts or hugging certain people? I think people disagree because you seem to throw everything together as if marketing = fanservice = friendship = ship, those are SUCH different things?!?! Marketing and fanservice is e.g. saying 2 members that click well together and fans like seeing them together so we give them a killing point in the choreo together or pair them up for shows etc. Just like hip-thrusts in a choreo are fanservice lol (and then sometimes fans take it to another level as 'shipping' which only should be done in fun and has nothing to do with IRL, and I don't mean that neg. I'm queer lol ) So e.g. Woosan creating their own unit-name, adopting each other's family, getting a friendship tattoo etc is Not marketing/fanservice, it just makes it easy to market them by having them in shows together etc... All the Ateez 'pairings' you mentioned happened because their friendships developed like this naturally and that's the 'magic spark' people are drawn to and therefore can sometimes be also used to market them: Yungi being friends for ages, with a 'destiny' audition story. Seongjoong becoming close due to Hwa feeling inspired + supported by Hongjoong and in return deciding to support Hongjoong through his stressful time as leader etc. But if you want to see different interactions of the member actually all you have to do is enjoy their content of lives/variety shows/vlogs: WooJong, WooJoong, WooSanHwa, WooSang, YunWoo, YunSan, YunSang, YunJoong, MinJong etc (not going to write all combinations) are all super close ;)

The popularity of the unit depends entirely on the chemistry of 2 members that form it. The fans like interactions, but they like it genuine. If the interaction is not genuine and plain fanservice, the unit basically will never be as popular as they're today because their relationships lack of depth. Also if ATEEZ chemistry works this way they could never be this close to each other as a whole group. So the main reason that makes the top ship in the fandom like Woosan, Yungi or Seongjoong famous is their own interactions and dynamic with each other. I don't think I need to explain how and why Woosan is popular. The company might try to pair them up but no one forces them to get a tattoo secretly or force Wooyong to make San a whole chapter in his documentary. Again, no one force Mingi to be so morally loyal to Yunho and no one forces Hongjoong to write the lyrics of Thank U with Seonghwa in his mind. The company is marketing it obviously by giving the unit names like 2Ho, 99z, Matz, Woosan, Topaz etc and using such name officially. Doesn't make it entirely fanservice, they just encourage it and the rest of the interactions are up to the members. In fact Woosan being too close to each other caused a bit of a problem back in 2019 tho. I think the least one have to worry about is ATEEZ doing fanservice. They're jealous af of each other.

I'll keep a better eye on trying to be accurate but I did ask some of my Korean speaking friends to look over this video for inaccuracies and so far they've all said it's nothing big enough that would change the context of the clip or isn't the gist of what the members are saying or anything...so I really would like to know how to improve the clips the commenter may be speaking of specifically to better improve their accuracy

I was wondering that as well. The way he was speaking was very different! I had to go back a few times to listen, wondering what accent that was. Personally I like his off-camera voice.
I don't think it's a dialect or accent but it's a bit more relaxed and less presentational than when he's trying to speak clearly for the camera
I think he kind of has a lisp too if I remember correctly? So some of the pronunciation of his words may be more relaxed and he’s not focusing on speaking as clearly? It could also just be referring to his manner of speaking rather than his physical voice

Someone in my comments mentioned that he said on Universe Private Msg that his reveal was that he recently bought stock in Universe (the company producing the show) but idk the proof of that. It's the running theory though I suppose. I've seen people have other theories though only to learn they've come out of thin air so I wouldn't over speculate lol

hongjoong was so real for revealing kq set the units for marketing ppl still don't agree that woosan and seongjoong is fanservice ik it's a good strategic for marketing and it has worked so far but it's time the members shine individually all their contents are focused on Woosan,Seongjoong and Yungi we need fresh units too i personally like minjoong,seongsang and jjongi but there aren't many moments i guess i'm just used to my previous groups having more than one ship in ateez 80% of the fandom revolves around the 3 ships in bts there's taekook,jikook,vhope,namjin,yoonmin,sope etc and they're all big and have great moments mark from nct can be shipped with other 5 members cause of the great chemistry and there'll be a lot of moments but in ateez i can hardly find jjongi,minwoo,minjoong or seongsang i hope kq stops this marketing strategy
I would like to clarify that it's not like every interaction they have is fan service. They're obviously still close friends but, yes, it can't be denied that they know certain groupings are popular. It's more like creating named units like "matz" or "99z" are done for marketing rather than their actual day to day interactions though ofc. They are kind of joking that Jongho won't do certain interactions with new groups they try to assign him but I believe that's more like filming extra content together and stuff not like...making hand hearts or hugging certain people?
Pairings are reasonably done to help fans get a sense of the dynamic and remember the members especially as rookies. Lately the "original pairings" aren't pushed nearly as much as when they were starting out. I personally think KQ has already stopped this marketing strategy since they mix and match a LOT lately but fans just often stick to the pairs they know best/hear of most
@@atozed yeah i agree lately kq has changed their marketing strategy but throughout the years it was mostly woosan and seongjoong as someone who's been in kpop since 2nd gen when groups were popular cause of fanservice i've never seen a company stick to a certain unit and use their closeness for thumbnail sometime the video editing looked like it was a shipping video even the thumbnail🤣with the slow mo and zooming you can tell kq really profited off woosan and it's true many atinys joined the fandom through woosan which is why even when the marketing strategy changed people stick to those specific units in other groups there were no certain units and you'd find 3 or 4 ships being popular eg bts jikook,taekook,vmin,vhope,yoonmin got7 markbam,jackbam,jinson,jjp,nct etc even 2nd gen 2pm,suju and bb there were many popular ships as there were many moments and not certain units i think units ruin the dynamic of the group it becomes a norm for them to stick to units to appeal to fans which is why they're more jelous than other groups cause they feel the need to show certain closeness with members infront of the cameras sometimes the marketing brings more harm than good look at seongjoong i feel like they got more akward as years passed by cause of the fanservice ppl will create narratives that fit their logic oh hj is a tsundere oh they're pretending to be akward they just can't take the truth i feel like minjoong and hohong have more chemistry than seongjoong but if i say it people treat it as a taboo

So e.g. Woosan creating their own unit-name, adopting each other's family, getting a friendship tattoo etc is Not marketing/fanservice, it just makes it easy to market them by having them in shows together etc...
All the Ateez 'pairings' you mentioned happened because their friendships developed like this naturally and that's the 'magic spark' people are drawn to and therefore can sometimes be also used to market them:
Yungi being friends for ages, with a 'destiny' audition story.
Seongjoong becoming close due to Hwa feeling inspired + supported by Hongjoong and in return deciding to support Hongjoong through his stressful time as leader etc.
But if you want to see different interactions of the member actually all you have to do is enjoy their content of lives/variety shows/vlogs:
WooJong, WooJoong, WooSanHwa, WooSang, YunWoo, YunSan, YunSang, YunJoong, MinJong etc (not going to write all combinations) are all super close ;)
@@Multikpoppie You're clearly confusing. When the company first created pairs, they absolutely don't know which one will become popular. The popularity of the unit depends entirely on the chemistry of 2 members that form it.
The fans like interactions, but they like it genuine. If the interaction is not genuine and plain fanservice, the unit basically will never be as popular as they're today because their relationships lack of depth. Also if ATEEZ chemistry works this way they could never be this close to each other as a whole group.
So the main reason that makes the top ship in the fandom like Woosan, Yungi or Seongjoong famous is their own interactions and dynamic with each other.
I don't think I need to explain how and why Woosan is popular. The company might try to pair them up but no one forces them to get a tattoo secretly or force Wooyong to make San a whole chapter in his documentary. Again, no one force Mingi to be so morally loyal to Yunho and no one forces Hongjoong to write the lyrics of Thank U with Seonghwa in his mind.
The company is marketing it obviously by giving the unit names like 2Ho, 99z, Matz, Woosan, Topaz etc and using such name officially. Doesn't make it entirely fanservice, they just encourage it and the rest of the interactions are up to the members. In fact Woosan being too close to each other caused a bit of a problem back in 2019 tho. I think the least one have to worry about is ATEEZ doing fanservice. They're jealous af of each other.
