I have some more info on that unfinished bridge in Cape Town for you.
Before construction began, the Cape Town Municipality bought out the buildings that where in the path of the project, but one person who had a cafe there, refused to sell. They continued with the project as far as they could, hoping that the noise will encourage the owner to sell, but that did not happen. In the end the work could not continue, because the shop in question stood right where one of the supporting pillars of the bridge was to be placed.
The Cape Town municipality was forced to gave up and abandoned the project. The Cafe stood there until well into the 2000's (2007 I think) when the owner finally died. The municipality bough the property and demolished it. In theory the bridge can now be completed, but now there is no funding available to continue it!

DO NOT GO INTO ABANDONED MINES! DO NOT!
    1) mines are unnatural voids in the earth that are supported by wood, metal, or concrete supports. When these supports rot, rust, or crumble the mine becomes very unstable. Bumping against them can cause these supports to fail catastrophically.
    2) Air does not circulate in mines and can form lethal carbon dioxide traps. If you slip or slide into one of these traps, you may asphyxiate before you are able to escape. Methane can also build up in certain mines, and can be explosive if you strike a match or are using an ignition source!
    3) Mines fill with water up to the water level. These can form pits of water hundreds of feet deep. The water in mines is often extremely toxic, contaminated by the ores or waste products of the mines. Even accidental ingestion can be extremely damaging to kidneys.
    4) Mine shafts are extremely dangerous to cross. Mine shafts may be covered over with nothing more than plywood and dirt, which rots and can give way underfoot. A bridge that seems like it might support your weight could be rusted completely through.
    5) Many mines may be abandoned with dynamite or ANFO still inside. Dynamite sweats nitroglycerin, which can detonate with simple vibration. ANFO, while stable when new, crystallizes ammonia nitrate crystals that are likewise extremely dangerous.
    6) Mines are also home to a variety of bats and birds that expose humans to dangerous disease, such as rabies. For certain bats, the mine is serving as a new home, and disturbing them can cause damage to the bat population.
    7) Abandoned mines aren't just dangerous for you. If you get in trouble and need to be rescued, you multiply the risk for everyone else. Don't put other people at risk.
There's a world of difference between abandoned buildings and abandoned mines, and the risks are far greater in the mine.

David13ushey Wise words of Warning of The Danger's from Old and or abandoned Mines. While these Warnings are Elementary, unfortunately unwise people may be lead astray, the recent example of school children following their teacher into underground caves, resulting in all getting trapped, and ultimately resulting in an International rescue team successfully rescuing all trapped. Thankfully without loss of any life. But, it could have resulted in all lives lost just as quickly, had an expert international team of rescuer's not have risked their lives in order to save the unwise teachers and children. Perhaps they learnt their lesson?!

Hey! I live in Ostrava! Thanks for giving Steel City a shout-out, tram lines still go through entire sections of it and the very old Vitkovíce train station still serves the few commuters who work the remaining factories and plants, travelling in from outside the city. Steel City is so huge in fact, that it has to be divided up into areas and divisions, similar to a real town.
I thought you'd be interested and happy to know, that most of your photos featured came from the Dolní Oblast (Main Furnace) area, which used to process the ore from which to get the steel. This is the first area to be re-done and re-furnished as a cultural centre, with its tower re-purposed as a viewing tower with a very unique café at the top, that massive water drum has been converted to the concert hall Gong, the place has a science and technology museum, plus the entire area hosts the massive Colours of Ostrava music festival every year.
Here's an interesting list for you: best re-uses of previously abandoned sites.

Between you and all of our millennial brave explorers, we can start uncovering whats been hidden in plain site, and purposefully closed or buried. Keep sharing information. Keep giving out the pieces. Soon we will be able to put this shit storm of a puzzle together. I hope this makes sense. Anyone else feel this way?

    • @snowrocket

You act like it a big conspiracy or something. I don't think most of these places are a part of that. Shifting economics account for most of it. It doesn't make financial sense to stay in a business or town where there's more incentive to leave than stay. I grew up in Pittsburgh, PA. When the steel companies couldn't make enough money there, they closed down the steel plants. The taxes kept going up while the infrastructure fell apart. LOTS of people left over the next 25 years.

Another reason you see one wind turbine out of each group NOT running is due to the contracts thePower Companies sign with the landowners. Unless ALL turbines in each group are running the Electric Companies Do NOT pay full price for the electricity being generated. Some of the contracts stipulate that the landowner gets Nothing unless All the turbines are running. If you're a landowner and are approached by the Electric companies make sure you read those contracts ALL the way through.

Sandy Hook, New Jersey, USA. Concrete gun emplacements used to house cannon for naval defense. Two large emplacements with large concrete tunnels, rooms, and ammunition storage bunkers. I think there were three sets of two. We used to go with the Boy Scouts and camp there for the weekend. There is also an abandoned fort separate from the gun emplacements.

There is a mine in Goshen Utah, condemned, and crazy, much like these places. Another is "Silver City" utah, it was a massive silver smelter in the late 1800s. Now it is used for films of the middle east, as much of it has middle eastern looking buildings. It is an old mine/smelter, and very fun to play airsoft in.

TheSSC tunnel hole in the ground in Texas is being used to store nuclear waste I know just because I live 12 miles from that complex. You should also mention that when the government decided to put that project in that area they forced hundreds of residence of their land at very cheap prices. Now some of that land is actually becoming small neighborhoods. It’s very sad, I know families who had land six generations back taken from them by the government to build this piece of crap that eventually fell through when President Clinton took office. Yes it is a big sore spot with the people of Waxahachie Texas and Ellis County.

Southern West Virginia is a “giant abandoned place”. Once the crown jewel of the state, and one of the most prosperous regions in America, the decline of coal took towns and cities of thousands and left poverty, sparse(ish) population, and towns where most of the downtown regions are abandoned and dilapidated.

From: "Not My Real Name". As a Soldier, I have served on many Canadian military Bases & Stations, that have been shut down/closed by my Federal Government (as cost cutting measures). One Station I served on (from 1983-1985) was called "CFS ALSASK", which was located in Saskatchewan, Canada, & was part of the "Pine Tree Radar Line" (that stretched right across Canada). In 1987 the entire line was shut down, as this (like the earlier shut down of the "Mid-Canada Line"), destroyed the local economies of numerous Villages & Communities. When I have visited the old CFS Alsask, I have noted that ALL the Private Marriage Quarter Trailers (PMQs) (think double-wide Trailer Park Trailers) are ALL gone. There is not one stick of wood left to indicate that military families once lived, worked, loved, & raised families there. Which is sad to me, as I remember a vibrant community, that once was very special to me. The only real reminder of these PMQs, are the hedge rows people grew, so as to give themselves some sort of privacy & sense of ownership. Even the decks people built along the sides of these Trailers are gone, & the locals use the rest of the Station as a sort of museum. The only real structure still in use is the pool building, & it must be about 45 years old. Also, on an economic note, these Radar Stations were a God Send to the Communities they were located in & around, as the average Radar Station employed about 120 military personnel, & about 50-60 civilians. So when disbanded, the local Communities lost (in some cases) their only real employer. Further, these Radar Stations had their own Police Force (Military Police, of which I was one), single cell jail, Ambulance, Medics, Nurse, Fire Chief, Fire Truck, Sport Hall, Weight Room, Canex Store, Canteen, single living quarters, a kitchen & dining area, 3 relaxation Messes, 2 lane bowling alley, sauna, & also provided such services as an Army Cadet Corp, Beavers/Scouts training, Bonspiels, a Pottery Shop, local sport tournaments, etc. Thoughts?

This was fun, but Tehachapi , is pronounced " Teh HAH' Che Pee " It was a California Native word for the creek through their valley and may have meant "Hard Climb". The Mountain chain near the valley is called "The Tehachipies" and was one landmark for the test pilots flying out of Edwards Air Force base.

There is a lesson in the value of wind turbines that the Obummer nation refused to heed. There are still bazillions of dollars already committed to construction of these worthless towers that couldn't be stopped by President Trump and American taxpayers are being bamboozled by the continuous treacherous policies of a fake elpresidente forced on us by a treasonous party. FDR should be proud, his communist minions have carried on.
