Etanol %96 lık çözeltisi yaygın olarak kullanılır.Bu nedenle %70 lik 500 ml alkol çözeltisi hazırlamak istiyorsak 365 ml alkol ve 135 ml destile su kullanılmalıdır.
The calculations are right but the procedure is wrong... (obviously not for making sanitiser) analytically. Due to packing /hydrogen bonding if you mixed 350ml ethanol with 150ml water total volume would be less than 500ml.
In your calculation you did not consider the volume contraction of water and ethanol. In consequence of that the concentration of your final solution is not correct. Am I wrong?
You can calculate how to make a 70% v/v solution Ethanol like this: Dilution equation: (Initial Concentration) * (Initial Volume) = (Final Concentration) * (Final Volume) we know the initial concentration of ethanol: 100%, The final concentration concentration of ethanol: 70% The final volume: 500 mL Therefore solve for the initial volume of ethanol needed: Initial Volume = (Final Concentration) * (Final Volume) / (Initial Concentration) = (70% * 500 mL) / (100%) = 350 mL of ethanol. The final volume of the solution is 500 mL so that means that you add 500 mL - 350 mL = 150 mL of water to dilute 100% Ethanol to 70% Ethanol. Measure out 350 mL of ethanol in a graduated cylinder and pour into a vial. Measure out 150 mL of distilled water in a graduated cylinder. Pour into the same glass. Seal and shake.
Does it mean that if I want to make 90 % alcohol, I need to put in an equation--> 90/100 x 500 ml =450 ml of 100% alcohol mixed with 50 ml of distilled water to make up to 500 ml. Is it correct?

So if I have 95% ethanol and want to use it in a 24oz spray bottle with a final concentration that is at least 75% ethanol. How many oz of ethanol to water? (Also here because coronavirus lol)
If you don't have the equipment for measuring alcohol by volume, 350 ml alcohol weights 274 grams on a kitchen scale. Mix 150 gr water with 274 gr alcohol.
unsure of ml to oz? there are 29.57 ml to one oz (USA Measurements) -- 350ml / 29.57 = amount of 99% alcohol to use (11.86 or 12 oz)-- 150 ml water / 29.57=5.07-- total is 12 oz alcohol + 5 oz water = 17 oz mixture.
US should start using ISO or metric system. They're the one that initiate this and the world followed this Standard. Yet up to now they're still using this old English system. Fahrenhite, oz, inches, foot, acres, lbs etc. They should give this up, as whole world is getting confused.
Thanks Dory Video! Please help me understand this calculation. She has a 70% alcohol and added 30% water to make a 100% mix in volume. I have 99.5% alcohol, to make the recommended 60 - 70% mix, so all I have to add is 00.5% water? That doesn’t sound right to me.
How much does the theory on the board change if instead of a 100% alcohol (I have isopropyl alcohol, IPA) I have, say, 98% IPA (not denatured) and I need to prepare a 75% solution up to 400 mL? (I'm aiming 75% with water because I'll be adding other stuff to it so that the net concentration of IPA in the resulting solution does not drop below 60%)
ok calculate as it was 100% isopropanol stock 75% = 75 isopropanol for 100 total. so 75ml of isopropanol in100 ml total (meaning 25ml water). you want to prepare 400ml, meaning instead to have 100ml total you want 400 ml total. so you need to multiply by 4; 75 x 4 + 25x4= 300ml isopropanol +100ml water=400ml. Done! this is for 100% isopropanol stock. your stock is 98%. so the ratio 100 to 98 is 100/98=1.02. so you will need to put more of your 98% isopropanol to rich your 75%, to do that multiply 300ml by 1.02=306ml. So you will need to put 306 ml of 98% isopropanol in 400ml total (meaning 94ml water). You can check you calculation: if I put 306 ml of 98% isopropanol in a total volume of 400ml. Meaning you put 306ml x 98%= 29988%. since the total volume is 400ml you will need to divide 29988% by 400ml=75% your 400ml solution is indeed 75% isopropanol another quick method is. you want to go from your stock 98% to 75% for 400ml to go from 98 to 75 it will be 98/75=1.31 ratio. so by dividing the total volume by 1.31 you will get the volume of 98% to use, so 400/1.31=305.34ml~306 the value are sligthly different than 306 because of the decimal I kept. So you will put 305.34ml of 98% isopropanol in 94.66ml of water

First decide the final volume that you want. How about 500 mL? Dilution Equation: (Initial Concentration) * (Initial Volume) = (Final Concentration) * (Final Volume) We know the initial concentration, Final Volume, and Final Concentration, so solve for the initial volume of 80% stock solution ethanol: Initial Volume = [(Final Concentration) * (Final Volume)] / (Initial Concentration) = (70% * 500 mL) / (80%) = (0.70 * 500 mL) / (0.80) = 437.5 mL ... of 80% stock solution of ethanol. Measure this out into a graduated cylinder, and pour into a glass vial. The final volume that you desire is 500 mL, so that means that you need to add 500 mL - 437.5 mL = 62.5 mL of distilled water to the same vial to form 70% solution of ethanol. Seal and shake to mix.

In your calculation you did not consider the volume contraction of water and ethanol. In consequence of that the concentration of your final solution is not correct. Am I wrong?
Damn... a middle school student can do that... Dear TH-cam, i'm looking for separate methanol and ethanol!!!
You can calculate how to make a 70% v/v solution Ethanol like this:
Dilution equation: (Initial Concentration) * (Initial Volume) = (Final Concentration) * (Final Volume)
we know the initial concentration of ethanol: 100%,
The final concentration concentration of ethanol: 70%
The final volume: 500 mL
Therefore solve for the initial volume of ethanol needed:
Initial Volume = (Final Concentration) * (Final Volume) / (Initial Concentration)
= (70% * 500 mL) / (100%)
= 350 mL of ethanol.
The final volume of the solution is 500 mL so that means that you add 500 mL - 350 mL = 150 mL of water to dilute 100% Ethanol to 70% Ethanol. ok calculate as it was 100% isopropanol stock
75% = 75 isopropanol for 100 total. so 75ml of isopropanol in100 ml total (meaning 25ml water).
you want to prepare 400ml, meaning instead to have 100ml total you want 400 ml total. so you need to multiply by 4; 75 x 4 + 25x4= 300ml isopropanol +100ml water=400ml. So you will need to put 306 ml of 98% isopropanol in 400ml total (meaning 94ml water).
You can check you calculation: if I put 306 ml of 98% isopropanol in a total volume of 400ml. Meaning you put 306ml x 98%= 29988%. since the total volume is 400ml you will need to divide 29988% by 400ml=75%

Hi how can i make 70% of ethnol from a 80% solution prepared? That's the only available here. Thanks in advance!
First decide the final volume that you want. How about 500 mL?
Dilution Equation:
(Initial Concentration) * (Initial Volume) = (Final Concentration) * (Final Volume)
We know the initial concentration, Final Volume, and Final Concentration, so solve for the initial volume of 80% stock solution ethanol:
Initial Volume = [(Final Concentration) * (Final Volume)] / (Initial Concentration)
= (70% * 500 mL) / (80%)
= (0.70 * 500 mL) / (0.80)
= 437.5 mL ... of 80% stock solution of ethanol.
You genius can't figure out a simple math?
