Reminds me of Alan Rickman in a lot of ways, and both of them weren't "found" by Hollywood until middle age.
Evets Zerimar its fine that it happened this way, this movie is already pretty old, he got to develop as a German adult and bring that mature sensibility to his English movies as a result.
Are you for serious right now? He speaks English better, more emphatically and well worded than 50% of people I encounter. Either they get upset too fast, or about stupid things, or this or that and on and on. I'm first generation American and it's sad how many people I know across the pond like Waltz but the contrast (arrogant, overly proud, overly patriotic etc) and I hate it.
I know you posted this 2 years ago but I had to inform you about your idea cause you don't know everyone if Tarantino didn't make christoph waltz famous you wouldn't know about him christoph speaks very well in every language but also with great acting and great sound don't think that there's no one like him to know many languages cause I know 4 languages perfectly and perfect accent that's not something special maybe for you Americans is cause you all don't need to learn any language..but Europeans and other places have to know many languages ;)
***** Perhaps underutilized is what Proxy Scar meant - I would like to see him in more films, too. I think he's smart, though and probably being choosy about what roles he takes.
+hugh jorgan Actually in many countries in Europe - if you do not live in the UK - you start to learn English very often at the age of 6-9, and start to learn a second foreign language that is important in your country or the official language in a close country at the age of 12-14. So speaking 3 languages at least is not that big of a deal.
+Loki Deus As someone from the UK I hate how the late the education system here is when it comes teaching other languages. By the time we start learning French or German the kids who are the same age in France and Germany are already speaking English quite well.
MegaSkiboy I did not mean to offend you, I am very sorry if I did. It may be true that you start to learn foreign languages later than other countries in Europe, but you should not forget the importance of the english language nowadays. It is not to be compared with any other language on the larger scale, and being raised in it makes a huge difference.
An unbelievable actor . His character played was superb . For me one of the most stand out I have viewed . I have watched the movie more than a dozen times - extraordinary .
the guy is brilliant, its hard to believe his entry into stardom was so recent. And being able to speak so many languages so fluently, I mean his Italian is better than mine. His English might be better than mine, and I pride myself on my extensive vocabulary.
It seems to me that inglorious bastards really changed this man's life. Without him getting that part we would most likely no be watching him or know who he is. I'm glad for him and he was excellent in the part.
The fascinating thing about language for me, personally, is that I have different personalities when I use different language. When I use my mother tongue, I'm a much more emotional person, and I wouldn't even image falling in love with someone else using anything other than my mother tongue. It's not that I don't understand the language, just that the emotion just don't follow the words. My English-speaking personality is a more sarcastic, cynical, cold-heart, rational one. Which is good when my professional life is in an English speaking environment; but less so when I want to make friends with other people using English.
This is because different ethnic groups express the world they see according to their view of the world. The Anglo-saxons are great at creating words for the CONCRETE physical world (fax, internet, web, etc).., sentences in Spanish for example are much longer than English, they usually express emotions and feelings, ABSTRACT concepts much better than English. Native Americans are usually awesome at expressing their connections with the LAND that surrounds them, eskimos for example have 18 different words for ‘snow’ while most languages only have 2 or 3... Eastern languages are great at expressing SPIRITUAL concepts (karma, ying/yang, chi, yoga, etc)... as you can see each major branch of humanity specializes in a different aspect life. None is better or worst, just different according to its assigned need.
You can see the passion while he talks about his career. When Charlie asks him about the script in more detail, Christoph sits right up in his chair.👏👏
thank you Quentin Tarantino for bringing Christoph Waltz into the spotlight! He is wonderful. He created such a unique bad guy, funny and full of glee, but very scary! He deserved both acadamy awards. Great actor
Agreed. It's more of a raw interview. No bullshit audience, no egotistical host (Letterman)..just a straightforward interview from more of an artistic standpoint rather than a comedic or entertainment view.
Wonderful actor Mr. Christoph Waltz. He played outstanding in Inglorious Bastards. Absolutly marvelous ! Exceptional ! And he is charismatic. He is a true actor.
Christophe Waltz is one of those actors who are actually an actor. He would have fit in amongst many of the greats of the silver screen. I love his roles. Each intricate and well put together.
No, there's nothing wrong about you finding him incredibly sexy because I do too ^_^! Christoph is not only incredibly talented but also handsome and very attractive. And when he speaks, omg... I'm staring at the TV, like in trance listening to him... He so deserves his Oscar and all the awards he's won! He's awesome!
I never really "got" QT films until I saw Kill Bill. That was the one that clicked. I went back and re-watched the rest and I loved them. He certainly knows how to write a scene that sings.
one of the greatest performances i've ever had a pleasure of seeing on screen - his character was on par with Heath Ledger's Joker, one of those performances that will long out-live the actor themselves
The first time I watched this man on screen, I was amazed at his amazing artistic theatrical gift, truly not many actors are creative in their chosen profession, Mr. Watz truly is one of those blessed-gifted artist. I look forward to seeing more of his work.

I think that Englisch actually is pretty easy. I was raised bilingually with both German and English. The English language has many similarities to German and is more simple e.g. you only have one article in English while we have three. Another reason why your roommate spoke and wrote English very well is the fact that English is a main school subject for every degree in Germany. Christoph Waltz however expresses himself very eloquently in both languages and is a very gifted actor.
Quinton was looking for THE only actor born for this part. Chris walked in, with everything Q.T. envisioned. A meeting Vegas would never have put odds on. We're lucky. Don't forget the creme.
The language transitions(one in particular from French to English) in the first scene, he uses to be so menacing, and to play with/torment the guests below the floor.
I don't think they show this programme in the UK, but they should, its very good. No audience, no fancy sets, no bullshit, just two people talking. That kind of thing is very rare these days.
